These matches in northern Australia are quite odd. Anyone know why we're playing them? Not exactly big crowds and the timeslots are strange

As far as I am aware ICC rules determine we play a number of games as a minimum against all sides within a set number of years. Australia have literally played the least amount of matches of any top nation in any format in 3 years.

Right, so a bit of a catch-up

They’re part of the ‘Super League’ that forms part of World Cup qualifying (involving the 12 test nation and the Netherlands).

Top 8 (along with India) qualify, 9-13 have to play in a qualification series with the top associate nations.

Australia is 7th at the moment, largely due to the lack of ODI’s we’ve played.

It's host (India) plus the top 7 of the rest. Also Australia have moved up to 5th. But otherwise correct.

It's a pretty decent way to handle qualification for a flawed WC format. So naturally the ICC failed to promote it and then immediately scrapped it.

Aaron Finch has retired from OD1 cricket after todays game vs. NZ, but still plans to play in the upcoming 20/20 World Cup.

You’d think Travis Head would be a chance at taking the other opening spot moving forward.
Finch has done the right thing as his ODI form was making his position untenable.

Highest ever chase by us against India. Green as an opener worked well, 61 off 30. Building a very good lineup to defend the WC in a months time.
