Team Runs

Zimbabwe - Charles Coventry $10
- Middle order batsman that scored 194* against the bangers in 2009. Being in the middle order isnt really an issue like it would in teh stronger teams, he should still get plenty of overs to face.

Australia - Shane Watson $4
- I heard he goes ok...

South Africa - Hashim Amla $4.50 - Worlds #1 batsman by a space, scored 1000+ runs at over 75 at quicker than a run a ball last year. Absolute steal at that price and the $17 for most tournament runs too.

Team Wickets

South Africa - Dale Steyn $3 -
He's the best bowler in the world, wether that relates to most wickets in the tournament is another thing, probably better off taking a small wager on the $17 for most tournament wickets as well.

Ireland - George Dockrell - $4.50 - Young spinner signed by somerset, seems the only one capable of taking multiple wickets.

What is the TV coverage going to be like? Will most games be live on FTA?
My understanding is Channel Nine will only show the Australian matches and what they consider "big matchups", while Foxtel is advertising that they will show every game live (not hard to do when you use 3 sports channels).

So basically, if you have Foxtel, you will see every game live, but if you only have FTA you will only see the Aussie games and the quarter finals onwards live I would expect.

And this is the problem with FTA TV. They (ch 9) also have 3 channels. They only utilise 1.

Also @timster I havent gone through each game but Australia will kill that group, we may drop one game at the most IMO. I think we are the only danger to Sth Africa (as long as Kallis is playing!).

Hey KP, thanks for the feedback.
I actually think our team is on the decline. The 7 match series against England is really mis leading! England coming off their ashes win really didn't care after the first three matches. England could (probably should have) won more. Half their side went home.
Aus on the other hand will go in with a pace attack, that just won't hold up in the sub continent.
Our batting line up is really suspect. Apart from Watson (gee that hurts saying it) - we don't have any batsman that back up match after match.
As an Aussie I"ll be happy to be proven otherwise, however don't expect a top of the table finish!

Sri Lanka will kill Australia and win that group.

Don't be blinded by Australia's wins against England.

England came what they came for - The Ashes. They were over here in October and had a long long tour. So they were always going to be flat and not give a crap about the one dayers. Why go all out in the one dayers after a long tour with the World Cup coming up, which spans over another month?

The one dayers were a physical and mental break for England.

Sri Lanka will top their group
South Africa will top their group

And those two teams should be featuring in the finals.

I don't get the Sri lanka love in. I just don't think they are that good. I'm not basing my thoughts on the series against England. We have the #2 batsman in the world opening with a great striker of the ball Haddin that can ruin teams. Then the experience of ponting (he needs to score heavily) and Clarke and although white didn't look that great against the poms I think him and Huss Jr is a great duo in the middle order. Then you have Mitch pinch hitting, he would have gained a lot from tue last series confidence wise even though it wasn't the greatest opposition. We all know he can do that against anyone. Brett Lee fit is a big plus, we finally have the right spinner in the side who can take multiple wickets. Tait can ruin top orders with pace and intimidaton and watto is no slouch either. Mark my words we will ruin those Lankans!!!.

Love your positivity, however. Ponting hasn't shown anything for a while, he hasn't played for ages. White is just terrible at international level, flat track bully if I have ever seen one. Krezja can take wickets but might go at 8 and over doing so, and with Tait and Johnson both being hit and miss we might be chasing over 300 against the better teams every game.

Sri Lanka have a stable top order

And their bowling attack is suited to Indian conditions.

Their lineup is much more rounded/suited to the conditions than what Australia's is.

SL don't have a weakness. Australia do.

And you forgot that Sri Lanka play all but one of their pool games in Sri Lanka, and then most likely a Quarter Final in Dhaka (Bangladesh) and a Semi back in Sri Lanka, not a bad draw for a team who could win on any of the grounds in the tournament. (I presumed they win Pool A).

I'm happy to be on them, should give me a great run for my money.:)

People are over-looking one important factor when assessing Australia's chances, their bowling line up is NOT suited to being on those smaller subcontinent grounds, if they play Johnson, Tait & Lee they'll be very expensive. They've brought in yet another spinner (albeit the one they probably should have stuck with before) but its a tough ask for him to come in off little international cricket in prep.

These one day tournaments as so much about who has the right bowling line up & on those pitches taking the pace of the ball & or spin is vital,
Sri Lanka have the right sort of attack to do well & a world class batting line up, add this to the fact they're basically at home & they are the value team to back.

Let's see how we travel without Hayden, Gilchrist, McGrath, Warne, Bracken and a great Ponting compared to the lame duck we have at the moment.

Cool. You said having Ponting would be a bad thing. There is no better alternative and most countries don't have anyone close to his experience in big matches. He will produce.

I remain skeptical about him producing. Having said that class players do raise to these types of occasions but I gave him the benefit of the doubt with the Ashes and he failed me so I will stick to my guns.

BTW I said having him as captain is a bad thing. That's because he is an awful captain.

He is not an awful captain its just the players didnt perform. Strauss doesnt do anything as Captain but he still won the ashes because the players he had played very well.

I think Ponting and Krejza are going to turn it on this WC. I think Tait or Lee will probably get our most wickets though because im sure they will just tear through teams like Canada, Kenya and Zimbabwe with sheer pace

Well if we are using that logic we may as well just send over Watson to take them on by himself.

When Australia played in India though Ponting was the most successful of the Aussie batsmen.

He is a champion and he will turn it on and Captain Aus to yet another WC
