Sadly Melbourne fans are still living in the past.

Cripps was the king in 2019, had some down times but needed that challenge to re-build himself and come back stronger on the other side - and that's exactly what he's done.

All Clayton Oliver has overcome is red hair:

Premierships won outside of Melbourne don't count.

Pretty sure that's written somewhere in the rule books.
Seems unfair when Premierships won outside of salary cap do count.

But I guess them's the breaks.

Cripps storming ahead in the coaches votes amongst many other player of the year tables.

I can see Petracca catching him but Oliver probably not. Oliver is probably a better comparison with Matt Kennedy tbh.
Strange comment considering Oliver made ground with a perfect 10

But it's cute seeing the Blues supporters up and about after winning 3 close games

I beg to differ. Mr Cripps accomplished that feat, no longer than 2 weeks ago.

Happy Gilmore Golf GIF
lol I do appreciate a Happy Gilmore quote/gif

Hopefully Cripps can achieve the feat of winning the AFLCA award like Oliver did last year too

Cripps is the overall better footballer. Has more strings to his bow.
haha. lol! you've gotta be joking. Cripps has played what 3 good games in 2 years? Oliver is the best player in the AFL, the coaches think so, and many think so. Has Cripps even been tagged yet? Lets wait until he plays like this for a whole season before we compare Cripps with the AFL's best.

More strings to his bow is a strange argument. Tom Mcdonald has more strings to his bow because he can go forward and back. lol. But as a pure midfielder Oliver is better than Cripps. Cripps has literally been irrelevant the last 2 years. Oliver hasn't played a poor season since day 1.

lol i see you only started watching footy in 2020.

cripps is a dual all-australian, 3x BnF winner, AFL MVP winner despite having 2 down years, and 1 injured year.

and yes, cripps has certainly been tagged, another lol.

lol i see you only started watching footy in 2020.
And Weideman was one of the best young key forwards in the comp at the end of 2018 lol. Cripps has been horrifically bad for at least 2 years. It's going to take a lot more than 3 games to get Cripps in the same conversation as Oliver.

Cripps had 15 Brownlow votes in 2019 and 2020. Oliver has had 45 votes lol. I don't believe stats always tell a full story but in this case it does. I understand Carlton fans are getting a little excited, but lets pump the breaks on the Cripps hype before putting him in the same sentence as a premiership midfielder, BnF winner in a premiership team, 3 time AA and AFLCA winner (which is probably the most valued award on offer). All things that Cripps hasn't done, despite being 3 years older.

Are you stupid or what? Of course he's been tagged, several times in fact.

Oliver is only useful through the stoppages. Cripps can play forward.

Why are Melbourne supporters so easily offended by the thought of someone preferring an opposition player to their own? "The coaches think so"? "Many think so"? So everyone should just conform? Grow a brain.
Cripps hasn't been tagged this year.

'Useful' is like saying Tony Lockett is one dimensional. Oliver is the Tony Lockett of the midfield. You can only play one position at once, so I'll take a A+ midfielder over an A midfielder and a B forward.

And Weideman was one of the best young key forwards in the comp at the end of 2018 lol.

lol no he wasn't. are you sure you're watching the correct sport?

he was poor in 2021 (played with a broken back), serviceable in 2020 and won the MVP in 2019. so yeah, nah.

he was playing injured a lot.

bringing premierships into it is dumb. if cripps went one pick earlier in his draft he'd be a triple premiership player at Richmond and likely captain now. he wasn't so lucky, and instead of being drafted into a successful team he's done his best to lead a team through serious darkness as a young captain. pretty admirable if you ask me.

clinging onto cripps 2020/2021 form seems pretty flipping naïve tbh.

prior to 2020, when he was fit, he was the games best contested mid
in 2019/2020 his form dropped and rumors circulated he had injuries/niggles. it was confirmed last year he played with a broken back.
now that he's fit, he's back to his best.

it couldn't be more black and white.

he's a proven player and anyone who doesn't think he belongs in the conversation with oliver is a moron imo.

Yeah, after he was best on in an elimination final against the cats.

Back to Cripps, 2 years is a massive sample size. Saying he was injured for 2 years is a massive cop out. And definitely convenient. The game changed and Cripps' ability to spread from the stoppage was exposed. Also, his ability to shake a tag was also exposed. He would basically get tagged completely out of the game, have 3 touches to half time and then play forward. That's the challenge for Cripps this year.

Oliver's been injured for years too, his shoulders are completely stuffed, but you don't hear me going into that. We're not doctors so we can only go on exposed form. Oliver has been the best player in the game (at worst top 3), Cripps has been 40-50 in the last 2 years. I recognise he was better beforehand and I recognise his 3 games so far this year have been great. But it's 3 games. To catch up with Oliver he needs to produce this level of footy for 2 years because the 3 games that Cripps has played is the level that Oliver plays at week in week out, year in year out. Notice how everyone is talking about Cripps yet Oliver has still got more disposals, inside 50's, score launches, clearances etc. Yeah, Cripps hit the scoreboard more, that's about it.

All in all, Cripps is playing amazing at the moment. Do it for 2 seasons straight like Oliver has done, then revisit. Til then Cripps is closer to Harmes/Viney than Oliver. Maybe even put Angus Brayshaw in the mix.

this entire post is too funny.

weiderman top 10 young fwd in the comp.
injuries aren't a factor
oliver injured for 'years'
oliver the best player in the game
cripps needs to produce 2 years of good footy
score launches

:tearsofjoy: :tearsofjoy: :tearsofjoy:

school holidays must be on.

you probably think buddy franklin needs to put in a few years of consistent footy to match oliver.

Oliver's accolades speak for themselves. Quite frankly, if you don't recognise Oliver as the best player in the game or top 3 then that's on you mate. Nothing anyone can do for you at that point. 31 Brownlow votes, AA, wins the best and fairest over Petracca. And you find it funny? lol jokes on you.

Cripps accolades speak for themselves, but you completely dismiss them.

Anyone who has watched footy for more than 5 minutes can see that the way Cripps is moving now is completely different to the past couple of years - because he is fit.

Alas, you're clinging onto the argument that the 'game went past him' - even the media have given up on that one. Crazy how the game can go past a player but he can catch back up to it despite not changing their game.
