Cripps has more upside and with his height (I know Olivier isn't short) and ability to go forward and kick goals he SHOULD be better.

But as an in an under midfielder, Oliver.

If Cripps keeps this up then he'll be the better footballer, but Olivier still the better midfielder. I'm fine with that.

oliver more consistent, cripps higher ceiling

oliver could win 8 AAs hes that good

Cripps will probably only finish with 4-5 but be considered perhaps the best player in the game some years when hes on.

I must've watched a different game too.

Thinks he has the agility and depth of kick as Petracca or Bont but in reality he butchers his kicks and still has the turning circle of the Titanic.

If Carlton fans are suggesting "He's Back" after that performance I suggest they lower their expectations to a bottom 4 finish
Seemed to be turning alright the other night… might not be Carlton fans needing to lower expeditions 😉

If Cripps plays like this, even with a bit of a drop off, for a whole season he's got the MVP sewn up. His best footy is crazy good. I wouldn't put it past him this year.

On the other hand, Oliver has played just about every game since he debuted (including about 120 straight) and very rarely dipped for more than a game or two at a time to the level that Cripps fell to for 2.5 years straight. Even with his shoulders being taped to hell and having had both reconstructed two years ago.

If I know both players will be at their best on any given day, I'm taking Cripps. If I'm picking a team and I have no guarantee that both players will be at their best, I'm taking Oliver.

oliver more consistent no doubt. cripps higher peak

funny that both are no longer the best mid at their club

also not sure where u picked out 2.5 years from

crippa was mvp in 2019 and was brownlow fav at the start of 2020

he still had the most centre clearances in the comp in 2020, so his dip in form from injury was really 1.5-2 years max

I feel like he began to drop towards the end of '19 after a hot start. Finished 5th in the MVP that year. Second in 2018. More like 2 years though, you're right.

In hindsight Cripps did unbelievably well to establish himself as one of the best in the game in 2019 given:

1. The Bluebaggers couldn’t win a game the first half of the year
2. He was coached by two rookie senior coaches, and clearly there had to be some adaptation mid-year
3. He is on record as saying he had some personal issues around the time Bolton was sacked which culminated in a couple of shocking games prior to Teague’s appointment

Reckon he could be set for a career year and finally has a decent supporting cast in the midfield and a senior coach who is going to do more to influence his overall development.

Cripps won the aflpa mvp in 2019 ... was his best year ever capped off with the 38d 4g game against Brissy

...he won in a landslide and achieved the rare feat of winning it from a team outside the 8

He also was getting coaches votes in rd23 so definitely no drop off

The drop off starter early-mid 2020

Another Perfect 10 coaches votes to big Rick Cripps

Just the 4 to Oliver.

Great season unfolding :fire:
Just the 34 touches, one goal and 13 clearances for Oliver. Pretty shit game by his standards

This hasn't aged so well.

Cripps hasn't been better than Oliver in entirety though

Cripps last 2 years has ben shitter than anything Oliver has ever produced and your reasoning backs up why these polls are useless

I don't think any Melbourne supporter is salty, winning the premiership washed that salt away pretty quickly. I think its the Carlton supporters that are salty af that the only thing they could cling to was that Cripps was a gun and for the last two years he has become a plodder.

This either. You always shit on Cripps - it's a shame.

Loyal bloke, leader, tries his heart out every week, doesn't carry on like a flog, plays footy the right way, isn't a dirty player, doesn't stage; yet some footy nuffies are forever barracking for his demise.

Your going to ignore my compliment of him on Friday after the first two games obviously

He has been phenomenal over the first two weeks this year and looks to have got some speed into his legs. Probably looks better than he did back in 18 & 19

But the criticism of him over the previous two years was justified, he was BOG average. Now he has turned it around, good on him, hopefully he keeps it up

I'll shit on him, I don't care what you think.
**** Cripps.

2 good games in 2 and a half years? Big deal.
No credits in the bank for little crippy after the slop he dished up, not for that long, not over here.

IN THE MEANTIME:
Clayton Oliver, current MVP, All-Australian, B&F winner in a premiership year, that's right he got a nice little premiership medallion too.

Let's check the CVs at the end of this year.

he can collect as many accolades as he likes but he's still a dirty ranga.

certainly was. it's just funny seeing your definitive calls continually be wrong. i hope you're not this poor at making long-term decisions in your work or life in general.
