Bizarre bump.So now that 2022 has finished and Oliver embarrassed this poll, how does Cripps take his game to another level in 2023? I would say he needs to take his avg disposals from 28 to 31+, he needs to impact finals and be more consistent during the season after he had a very poor 7 week period mid-season. He also needs to kick more goals. 7 goals in his last 14 games is laughably low for someone who is apparently a goal kicking mid with key position height.
just doing another victory lap. it was pretty funny to me after about round 5 when Carlton fans were up and about. Next minute, he couldn't catch OliverBizarre bump.

Question to you... Is Nat Fyfe not one of the best midfielders the league has seen because he had a bad run with injury for many years and wasn't able to produce his best for long periods in between?I watched every Carlton game. Cripps played like 2 minutes in the ruck in that span. Nowhere near enough to offer any sort of excuse. And the ruck excuse was debunked as soon as he stopped playing ruck because he still struggled. This was acknowledged even by Carlton fans, so you need to go back in this thread and realise that the pathetic ruck excuse was debunked a long time ago.
Oliver averaged more possessions than Cripps in only his 2nd season. In his 2nd season, he averaged 29.9 touches per game. The thing with Oliver is, there's never been any excuses for him. in his whole career. He's always produced. Cripps there's always been injury excuses, role excuses, and now the availability of other players used as an excuse.
What happened when Gawn was out for the 2 weeks? Oliver had 35 and 36 touches respectively. So that debunks your 'Gawn hits it down his throat' theory.
I'm not denying that Cripps' best isn't better. But Cripps matches Olivers output maybe once every 6 weeks. And as a pure inside mid Oliver is better at most, if not all aspects of being a pure mid.
Imo, Nay Fyfe is not one of the best mids in the league. And hasn't been for many years.Question to you... Is Nat Fyfe not one of the best midfielders the league has seen because he had a bad run with injury for many years and wasn't able to produce his best for long periods in between?
Cripps may not have the natural durability of Oliver but when he's healthy he's a league above. Oliver is still yet to add forward half impact to his game and that's long been the reason he's seen as a small notch below the absolute top players in the comp.
I was not talking about whether he still is, he's old and battled dozens of serious injuries at this stage... But Fyfe is undeniably one of the best the game has seen even though his ability to stay on the park was poor based on what he could do when he was fit, completely unstoppable.Imo, Nay Fyfe is not one of the best mids in the league. And hasn't been for many years.
I agree that it'd be nice for Oliver to hit the scoreboard more often but no, he's not considered a notch below anyone. He's probably been the best player for the last 2 seasons. He passed Bontempelli last year and he's always been better than Petracca. both mids that kick goals.
Shame by Round 23 Cripps had the Charlie wrapt up.just doing another victory lap. it was pretty funny to me after about round 5 when Carlton fans were up and about. Next minute, he couldn't catch Oliver
lol. the Charlie. like it means anything.Shame by Round 23 Cripps had the Charlie wrapt up.
Really the question needs to be asked - how does Oliver take the next step and catch up to Cripps?
Sure he does bud.lol. the Charlie. like it means anything.
Cripps is literally our 3rd best mid. And probably comes 5th in our Bnf.
1. Oliver
2. Petracca
3. Gawn
4. May
5th. Cripps?
lol a Brownlow. how good is Ollie Wines. Record number of votes last year, not a top 60 player this year. Good old Brownlow. As I said from day 1, the coaches award is the most respected award. Gone a bit quiet about thatSure he does bud.
Thanks for bumping the thread though - genuinely. I’d forgotten about the combined salt of Deez supporters and Lions fans following Cripps electric Brownlow win.
Imagine if Cripps didn’t have 10 weeks in the middle part of the season; being thrown into various roles including the ruck. To win the Brownlow in spite of this really does reinforce what an exceptional player he is.
If he’s allowed to hunt the ball across 22 rounds he likely nets 45-50 Brownlow votes.
Almost needs to be a mercy rule when you’ve got a player as good as Cripps running around terrorising opposition midfields.
Oliver might reach Wines’ lofty heights some day, but until then he’ll have to content himself with his suite of minor, less prestigious awards.lol a Brownlow. how good is Ollie Wines. 'Various roles' hahahahaha. he played 99% inside mid. lolz.

what do you mean? he did win it...You can just picture Dan sitting there with tears running down his face. It's a bit sad really that something like this can have such a big impact on him.
It'll be OK Dan. Just breathe mate. Clarry may win it next year.
Are you talking about Brownlows or hard-earned, but inoffensive possessions?what do you mean? he did win it...
oh I was talking about the coaches award. the most credible award. back to back too how are clearances ineffective. Oliver is a better clearance player and is much better defensively. Are you talking about Brownlows or hard-earned, but inoffensive possessions?
There was always something fishy about Cripps winning the Brownlow. Admittedly, I think he's one of the most overrated players in history.
The Brownlow betting scandal casts a pall over his dubious victory.

You realise it's already been stated that the votes done on the day aren't the issue, it's the fact the umpire told people about the votes afterwards. There was always something fishy about Cripps winning the Brownlow. Admittedly, I think he's one of the most overrated players in history.

Good post.Crap!
If anything, Lachie Neale is the one who was severely overrated in 2022. The bloke is a ball magnet but talk about one of the most uninspiring players of the modern era.
In contrast, Cripps is the biggest, strongest midfield bull the game has ever seen. If injury does not curtail his exceptional career to date, he can improve on it again in the coming year.
That final game of the season against Collingwood, it was as close to the perfect midfielders game with everything at stake. Was only fitting he received the 3 votes which ultimately determined the winner of the 2022 Brownlow medal.
