Details for the 2008 Pokernews Cup have been released. Would hope to play events 1 ($230 Opening Event), 6 ($550 6-handed) and 7 ($2700 Main Event) perhaps. In time I would hope to plan each and every HORSE event. I'll be flying to Vegas the day after the Pokernews Cup.

Re: Experience at crown - Part 2

I went in last night. Had a heck of a night and seemed to lose almost every race. Was down a bunch and whenever I got hands I had no money to make anything. Table was nuts with people going all in blind for like 5-6 hands in a row.

Raises to $20 UTG would see 5-6 people on the flop each and every time.

I ended up losing $8 but I don't know how I came out of it with so much.

Re: Experience at crown - Part 2

DoubleA, you still owe us a story don't you?

I haven't played a Sunday tournament for some time, should probably get around to playing it occasionally, maybe once a month. Would like to play the Saturday $550, but Crown should do single table satellites during the week for those interested, rather than just on Saturday afternoon. Means you have to spend all day Saturday at Crown.

Re: Experience at crown - Part 2

I have my eyes on the $230 NLH, $100 Razz, $550 NLH and the $2700 NLH Main Event if I can satellite in.

Re: Experience at crown - Part 2

Eh for some reason i thought macau was coinciding with the vic champs

i'll still only play the 6max 1k and maybe the razz. Simply because i rather gouge my own eyes out than play a full ring live tournament.

Re: Experience at crown - Part 2

Well I've done it. I'd set myself a goal to get my live roll to 10k by Tuesday (my birthday) and I got there today. I've been on a bit of a downswing, nothing serious, $300 here, $150 there, struggling to break even, but as tends to happens, I make it all back and then some. Although I'm not accumulating a 6k stack like one guy that was there on Friday . I heard he gave most of it back and only (relatively) walked out with 1200.

I got smashed today with KK. Crazy Asian raises to 20, next guy calls, I make it 60 to go, he makes it 150, other guy folds. Sucky situation. Thinking 3rd level, does he really put me on AK, I had a feeling he thought I had AK. Does he actually have what I fear? Can't get nothing from him, his head is bowed under his cap. Do I push for 400 or so? Is that what he wants? I ask him if he has Queens? No response. I call. Flop Qxx. I check. He casually bets 100, I eventually fold face-down. He tells a guy later that he did have QQ, but maybe he had JJ, I don't know.

Very next hand I get TT, Asian makes it 15, next guy raises to 45, I push. Asian thinks, he's probably putting me on tilt and will call, but he eventually folds. Other guys calls for 80 or so. He has AJo, my hand holds up, Asian said he would have flopped split Kings. So I'm in the thick of the action and with hindsight, should have taken a breather. A couple hands later I get AKdd and limp from MP cos my head is all screwed. Flop: 334 with two diamonds. Luckbox in Seat 9 with 1500 bets 30, Asian calls, I call. Turn 5d, he bets 60, Asian calls, I raise to 120, they both call. River 4 , he comes out betting 300, Asian folds 66, I have to fold. He shows A3o. Asian had 66 with 6d, so a 2d on the river would have really ____ed me. I was ____ing pissed, my bad for not raising pre-flop or making a meaningful raise on the turn but I'd gotten gun shy with too much heat recently. Seat 9 says he folds if I pushed the turn.

I finally win some money back, cash in and have some lunch. Come back and start at a new table. I get 54ss and raise UTG to 6. 4-5 callers. Flop: As-2s-10d, I bet 15, one caller. Lovely 3d on the turn, I bet 40, guy looks like he wants to raise (oh please!) but he flats. Lovely black 3 on the river, except it was the other one . I think long and hard and push, he calls with AJ! Two guys either side of me thought I bluff jammed.

I get 22 in the SB, everyone has limped. Sorry Knowledge, but I raised it to 9, it was all the whites I had, everyone calls, we have 9-handed action, 81 in the pot already. Flop 2-4-T, two diamonds. Checks round to MP, I comment that it's a good pot, he bets 20, button calls, I raise to 60, they both fold. One guy asked "22 or 44?" and said I could have flatted because he didn't think a flush draw was out there. Button actually did fold a flush draw (bad fold).

I get 53hh in MP and limp, flop A47, all spades, checks round to the short stack to my left who overbets for 26, he had about 30 left. Everyone folds, I put him all in, he calls. 2s on the turn, he doesn't have a spade, he's surprised I don't either, but I tell him I have a straight. He had A9.

I check my balance (PokerPro card) and I'm over 2k (banked 8k recently), so I cash in when time is called, happy to have reached a milestone. To 15k next, although tourney buyins (Vic Champs, PokerNews Cup) will cut into that a little.

Re: Experience at crown - Part 2

At one stage i was on a good roll and was leaving up min $200 4 straight times, the past 4-5 tims i've been i cant seem to find any luck, lose every 50/50 and cop shocking river beats....so very very frustrating, but i guess thats poker....

lose every 50/50? in cash games? you all in pre-flop?

Big props! That's a great milestone. Is it all poker profit? How long did it take you to get there?

I don't know, I'd be pretty happy to have $300 in preflop with kings. I'd probably push at this point, unless you are very confident he has aces.
Thinking 3rd level, does he really put me on AK, I had a feeling he thought I had AK. Does he actually have what I fear? Can't get nothing from him, his head is bowed under his cap. That's a really tough fold. If he did have queens, then it's brilliant. But $100 is such a small bet into that pot.

That's pretty cheeky stuff. You normally raise suited connectors UTG?

No. I try to mix it up. Limp with 10-8s from the CO, raise with 54s UTG (was only a min-raise though), fold KJo UTG. It all depends on how the table is playing, what my stack is and what my opponent's stacks are. I've found that I'm folding pocket pairs to pre-flop raises more than ever now (well, sometimes). That's probably due to some reading I have been doing. If I'm not getting the implied odds to call, then I'll let my pocket 4s go.

Re: Experience at crown - Part 2

in the KK how much did you have behind RB. I woulda just shoved it in pre. Generally folding KK pre is -ev.

Small pairs play well heads up or multi-way (playing for a set on the flop). 3 or 4 way they can be poor. I have absolutely no problem throwing away a small pair (say 6 and lower) in early position or if there is any raise. Late position I will usually call the BB if there are limpers or raise if not.

I might have had a bit less than 500, he probably had 1000 or more. I didn't fold pre-flop, I folded on the flop. He raised to 20, 1 caller, I make it 60, he ups to 150, I called. Maybe I just had a Lee Childs moment . So what's his range? AA-TT? Surely he can't have AK/AQ, and can he go 150 pre with 99/88? The only read I thought I had was that he put me on AK. As I said, I got 2nd hand info that he had QQ.

not literally 50/50, but infront with nothing massive, but enough, and making the play, and being rivered when before the river they are a very low percentage of actually taking the pot...
