Crows plan Walker talks!

The club has to stop pussyfooting around and find out exactly what Walker wants to get his signature and then come to terms with him and get it done, if we leave it till the end of the year we'll lose him.

And if we throw it all at Tex and get his signature early only for GWS to throw more money at someone else we can't afford to lose?

Without a half decent midfield forwards are useless.

I believe there is less risk in a key mid/defender going to a start up club than there is for a key forward. If supply is limited your chances to score are limited.

A guy like Walker could be signed up for $1m a year over three years and spend the first two of those years frustrated as the mids develop. In his third year, after two years of frustration he kicks a few more, but is not the same player he was as a 21 year old. His next contract reflects this, or he is traded/delisted.

As a key forward, you would want to know who is going to be in the midfield before signing? I dont see too many of the Ablett calibre putting their hands up to move this year.

GCs recruting seemed to be to sure up the backline and midfield. Then find a big guy in Dixon in the country somewhere to kick goals. With a Ruck/Forward like Smith picked up as well.

I personally think paying big bucks for a key forward, taking up cap space for mids to supply the forward is not a good way to set up a club.

As an aside a cheaper option for a key forward could Nick Salter. I have heard that it was Laidley that sees him as a defender, not Choco. I wonder if they have made contact with him, and get him to request a trade. As I beleive he is still contracted. They can then still lure an uncontracted player from then. Like GC did with Brennen and Rischitelli.

And what happens when you've got an all star midfield and forwards that can't compete? Plenty of supply, but a complete inability to convert and/or keep the ball inside forward 50 - 41 inside 50s is low but not diabolical, they were just smashed on the rebound. Throw a Mitch Clark or Roughead into that forward line (probably could've afforded one of them rather than two of Krakouer/Harbrow/Brennan/Rischitelli) and their conversion rate would improve dramatically.

FWIW I totally agree with you on Salter. Has all the tools to be a very good AFL forward, and if true, Laidley is an idiot for not seeing this and everyone else are bigger idiots for listening to him.

We've already overpaid for Tippet to keep him away from GC. Dangerfield as well. If we throw everything at Taylor there isnt a lot of money left when the many other young up an comers are out of contract.

I would love to see him stay. Just dont wont it to jepordise us in resigning the rest of the list.

Crows need to do everything possible to keep Tex, he has a bigger upside than Tippett and remember all the hooha that followed him all season long before he resigned.

Tippett and Walker are the two key forwards the crows have been looking for since Mods and Robran and the club would be well aware of Tex's marketability-see the vid with him and Smarty-priceless:cool:.

GWS are further behind GC at the same stage and fast tracking them that extra year instead of 2013 as was first thought out will hurt them for 5 years at least. Money talks yes, but it is not the be all and end all, if they can get close to the mark, the lure of playing with his mates and the possibility of a go at a premiership in a couple of years will keep Tex here. Remember Adelaide was the only club he wanted to sign with as a NSW scholarship.

Tex will stay, Biglands is in it for the ratings and needs to jam it.

No chance Walkers management let us sing him this early.

With the hype already over him and GWS, plus the new CBA, the reasons to delay signing at too great.

We're going to get these atricles all year long, ala Tippett.

And it's only round 3..

I'm more annoyed that it's a former Crow spreading potential BS, 70% sure, where the hell did he come up with that figure, what a douche.

Take it as a grain of salt, but I remember Jaensch on his twitter saying he adamant that Tex was staying a few weeks ago. His involvement in the 'See it for yourself' campaign is promising, Craigy and co. were pretty pissed when Bock bailed, if they had an inkling that Walker had already signed would you think they would be using him in an advertisement..

Indeed.

I was a happy man yesdi in regards to walker. Almost cocky. As people point out he doesnt have the look of a man about to shaft his childhood club. That and the reasons you state... we'll get his sig at years end for sure I thought.

Cant help feel a little uneasy when people declare hes gone. Maybe it will force tex to declare his intentions.

Eitherway, months of this bs to go.

Thats it. The whole deal with the Tribe, the checkside thing with Smarty and the increased media exposure for Tex this year....well, it doesnt seem like we would be thrusting him into the limelight if we thought he would be effing off at the end of the year. Unless we though it would have some bearing on our compensation somehow.

AS much as my brain is playing the role of soothsayer in my internal war, the whole thing does unsettle me quite a bit. Its a fairly strong case for GWS. If it were Brisbane, we would all be pi$$ing ourselves

This.

It feels naive to hang your hat on such things in comparison to big $$$, but you do. I also thought Tippett charing Mcleod off in his 300th (or was it when he broke the games record?) was an indication that he would stay.

Anyway, yesterday, watching the vid of tex with his childhood hero, I thought he looked to be very much at home.

Aren't we only paying about 95% of our salary cap so we have room for what we knew would be a tough fight to keep Walker?

Agreed. Surely with all our retirements this past year we have some room in the salary cap? Goodwin, McLeod & co would have commanded a pretty fair pay packet one would think.

Its almost a travesty to include Robran in this quartet but I hear what your saying.;) If Tex is interested in a flag he wont be going anywhere.

With all these people in the media so sure of Walker signing with GWS I'm getting more and more sure of it myself. I mean they all said the same thing about Tippett and now he's running around in a Gold Coast guernsey.

Oh wait...

Yeah thats what sucks, even if Tex has no intention of leaving he is best being elusive to jack up his price. Meanwhile we have to wait it out in the dark listening to renown psychic Rhett Biglands.

Yeah i agree with this but most of the ones the media had info on as definites to GC all ended up being correct.. That's the trouble i guess, we have no idea what's real and what's bs..

Let's freaking hope not on this occasion..

Thats a tad harsh on Robran. I always thought he was a pretty good player given the position he normally played.

They had an awful lot of swings & misses before they narrowed it down to the correct individuals.

Mostly hit the mark pretty close.. I'm not saying he's gone, i think he will stay actually..
Really.. I can probably name 3 players they got wrong for every one they got right. Riewoldt, Tippett, Franklin...

They had them narrowed down successfully by about June/July, but most of the lists before that time were rubbish.
