Hahahaha is this in reference to my Lewis comparison,
He's been compared to every other midfielder in the history of the game at some point.

I don't believe he resembles anyone at all. Which is what makes him so enticing.

I certainly feel that the comparisons to Herbie Matthews were a little off the mark.

Cunners is going to prove the old adage that all good things come to those who wait.

I reckon an official 'breakout year' is on the cards but he will not hit his prime for another 3 or 4 years at which point he will be considered close to, if not the best inside mid in the comp.

You can actually see the footy quivering in fear as it is about be "renditioned" to a part of the world it has never been before, at breakneck speed.

Cunners had me a bit confused for a few seasons.

All the talk leading to his drafting was about contesting, aggression and ferocity. And yes he certainly wins his share of ball in the clinches and doesn't lack courage.

But I expected a maniacal Ziebell/Greenwood type, smashing into packs and punishing opposition and teammate bodies alike with ferocious attack. He hasn't really ended up as that.

I didn't expect a footballer with the indefinable element of 'time'. He has that extra split-second in traffic and the vision to use it well. His disposal by hand or foot is sharp and he's very much footballer not athlete. In terms of the ubiquitous comparisons, I kind of get why he's now compared to a Pendlebury or Mitchell with some of his attributes rather than Ziebs or even his #10 predecessor Stevo.

So we didn't get the player I thought we were getting but we got one just as good, just different.

I agree totally with that angle on Cunners. I too was expecting a player similar to Ziebell and instead we have someone totally unique, who we desperately need, and who has skills way in advance of what I personally expected.

Surrounded by JZ, NDS, Wells, Basti, and eventually Spitta, he's going to do great things this year.

Seems to be justifying his pick at 5.

It appears he has taken another step towards being a quality player.

The comparisons to Mitchell are premature and inaccurate.

These are things he's got going for him:

- Elite extractor, (clearance and contest machine)
- Elite evasive skills
- Elite handballing
- Elite vision
- Very good tackling
- Very good attack on the ball

Areas he's shown a lot of improvement lately:
- Improving 'ball magnetism'
- Improving kicking
- Improving contested marking
- Improving game intensity
- Seems to be improving his tank
damn good set shot too. within 50m.

Whilst not getting sucked in with the hype ....... his relaxed and inventive handball style reminds me of a former nuggety player that wore the swans and carlton guernsey. Not saying he'll ends up being as good but the handball style is nearing the same levels.

Mentioned in the player sponsorship intro thread, but cunners is MUCH bigger than i expected. About 3 inches taller than I thought, and build like a brick shithouse. His core is comparable to ziebs, which I was surprised at. Cant wait to see his 2014 fend-off.
