Really?

What does that 'exclusively for our games at Aurora Stadium' part mean then?
What difference does it make? They are still members?

Why not mention the massive increase is Kennedy club members, which is our maximium premium membership this year?

Why are people so territorial over membership numbers, and why on earth you'd want to talk Tassie members down. Surely its a positive and more reason to be happy with the Tassie deal? Considering they are already getting major sponsorship and revenue for playing home games there, we are also benefiting from members. Many members in Tasmania take out a full membership, myself included, so I'm not sure what your point is.

I agree with this, although the MCC membership does hurt Melbourne clubs - especially MCG tenants.

Its a situation the MCC and AFL need to adress...maybe they should introduce an AFL membership type scenerio where part of the membership fee is designated to the nominated club.

You can't say that MCC membership doesn't benefit Melbourne clubs, bceause it allows them to play there rent free due to the income coming in from the members. If you got rid of the members, each AFL club would have to cough up millions in ground rental.

Subiaco doesn't have stadium members, but the 2 AFL clubs pay $3 million a year in rent.

Which situation is more beneficial? I suppose the lower drawing the team, the better off they are with the MCC arrangement.

Rob, you need to consider other factors. Yes WCE & Fre pay but their owner the WAFC gets all the revenue from the stadium advertising. MCG tenants don't get that revenue and still pay the operation costs... There is a bit more to it.

You got to remember that Fre & WCE members do not own their clubs. Their clubs are owned by the WAFC who bailed out Indian Pacific when they went broke and saved the WCE from going under. Then the WAFC put the money up for Freos license. It is a bit hard to compare because WCE and Freo are basically owned by the State government via the WAFC which is a government body.

This is probably one of the dumbest posts i've ever seen.

Absolutely - but it's also a shithole ground. I'm not trying to say it's an identical situation, but it's certainly not reasonable to suggest that because MCG tenant clubs don't get any revenue directly from MCC members, it's a poor arrangement. If the MCC members were not there, the clubs might have 25,000 more seats to sell, but they would have to pick up the slack in revenue for the ground, which is tens of millions a year.

I'm not really sure how that's relevant - the bottom line is that stadiums have costs. Someone has to pay them - where there are no stadium members then the burden obviously shifts on to the tenants directly.
If it was that beneficial to control the ground outright, why did Carlton leave Optus Oval?

After breaking the club’s all-time record membership of 24,624 on March 12, the Roos have signed more than 5000 members in the past three weeks.

The club’s membership tally has soared to 30,312 leading into this Saturday’s Round 3 clash with Hawthorn.

North Melbourne Football Club Chairman James Brayshaw said the club was ecstatic with the support of the North Melbourne faithful.

“We must thank the North Melbourne fans who have taken a stand with us and joined as members of our great club,” said Brayshaw, who has filmed a thank you message to all members via the club’s website.

“The impact this result has both on and off the field for the club is enormous and we are grateful to our members for their support.”

Brayshaw said the sky’s the limit as the club now focuses on surging towards 35,000 members.

“This is possible. Remember we still have around 3969 members from last season who have yet to join up,” he said.

“We urge all fans that have royal blue and white pumping through their veins to ensure they join up.”

Brayshaw said the club was in the process of putting together a bevy of prizes which will be drawn following the closure of the membership period in mid-June as a special thank you to all our members.

“We think it’s important we thank all our members from the first to the last, by giving them the same chance at winning some amazing recognition prizes with a draw in early July,” Brayshaw said.

The club will notify members of more prize draw details in the coming months.
Also in the coming weeks the club will be announcing an extensive Member’s Benefits Program which will offer our members a wide range of discounts and special offers from a variety of the club sponsors.

“Finally we would like to remind our people that joining up is one thing, but we must also turn up every week throughout the year,” Brayshaw said.

No they don't. The WAFC get virtually no income from advertising revenue. The 2 WA clubs do. That's why the WA clubs pay rent of $3mil each to the WAFC. The SANFL get almost all the revenue from advertising, catering, corporate boxes etc and that's why the 2 SA clubs pay minimal rent.

From the article I linked in post #812. Have a read of it.

In addition, the non-Victorian clubs such as West Coast, Fremantle, Sydney and Brisbane - which rank first, second, third and fifth respectively in terms of revenue from their home grounds - had the benefit of getting more signage revenue from their respective homes at Subiaco, ANZ Stadium and the Gabba.

In contrast much of the signage revenue at the MCG goes back to the Melbourne Cricket Club, which runs the ground.

Even that's a great figure for this time of year, you should get 30000 ticketed members easy

I thought we would get to 28k and felt that would have been a good first step. Very surprised to be heading towards 30k ticketed. The non-ticketed is a bit low though, will have to get some pet memberships I think.

A pleasing aspect is our reserved seating memberships have about doubled form last year, it still isn't fantastic at 6k but I think the improvement over last year has been exceptional and a lot of people support the new regime.

Just need the crusty old bastards who are holding onto shares out of spite to sell them back to the club, they are holding up our progress.

Firstly, well done to North Melbourne on breaking the 30,000 members this year. Hopefully they all stick around for the next 5 years, and don't drop off.

Secondly, Carlton also up over 35,500, which is a new record for us as well. Hopefully we can push past 40k this year.

Fantastic work Kangas. Shows what a scare can do for you. Hope for your sake you can follow our path from the mid-90s back into a "safe" club...don't think you have anywhere near the financial problems we had, but it's taken us 10 years to recover.

I may be mistaken with our Tassie membership. In previous years it's been an "interstate" membership, designated as Tassie only by location (some extras were sent only to people living in Tasmania, that other interstate members didn't get).

The fact the Tasmanian membership is now less, ir probably related to our stadium deal being renegotiated (and the Hudson club)....only now are Tasmanians getting used to the idea of pre-paying for seats...membership is still a somewhat foreign concept.

I fear for the Demons...though they seem to have had a dream run in the media when compared to the likes of Dogs and Kangaroos.

Only 1,100 non ticketed. Hopefully we can top up the 'non ticketed' tally, as they are money for jam. Require no real servicing and are high profit margin.

True, but most of the non ticketed members youd think would be the non North supporting members

30000 ticketed members is an awesome return for North, probably puts you in the top 5-6 Vic teams?
