Yet another article in the paper today has Fitzroy clearly ahead in the media stakes, that's for sure. Bit dubious on the crowd of 1000 people as quoted, unless 400-500 were hiding behind the stand. In any case, the atmosphere was good and I'll be coming back for another look very soon.

We use the same people as the Grand Prix...

Cannot comment too much as Saturday was my first look at the 2009 version of Fitzroy, but it must be said that their attack on the football was first rate and seemed to put Old Mentonians off a bit. They look to be lacking in the big man department, but endeavour was excellent.

Yeah, 1000 was a bit of an exaggeration. More than 200 max.

I just noticed an interesting post-script to the Fitzroy -v- OMs game on the weekend.

From the VAFA website:
Results of Tribunal and Investigations hearings.

Paul Hildebrand, Swinburne University. Striking, 4 matches.
Daniel Lyne, Albert Park. Failed to appear, 1 match.
Josh Schmitz, Hampton Rovers (Reserves). Striking, 3 matches.

*Kinsella, Old Mentonians. Striking, 2 matches.

*Cameron Liston, Box Hill North. Striking, 2 matches.
*Lachlan McFadzean, La Trobe University. Striking, 2 matches.

*Accepted Prescribed Penalty

And just maybe someone sould mention how many of the 200 max travel from place's like Ballarat Moama and the very large number from the southern suburbs, local Fitzroy people havn't followed them for years.
DONT SHOOT YOURSELF IN THE FOOT

The locals are getting on board - but the response from those Fitzroy supporters far and wide has been incredible.

The fact we're not up against a Brisbane Lions match on Saturday afternoon should further swell the numbers this week.

NOBS V Werribee by 5 points - at home
OM V Whitefriars by 5 points - at home
Rupertswood V SMD by 60 points
Prahran V Aquinas by 24 points
Fitzroy V ESL by 45 points

I'll go for all the home teams Saturday, makes this short and sharp.

Can't get over that damned goal last week Jack, was about to slash my wrists until you told me to lighten up. Thanks Jack.

here we go, massive games this week in what could very well be the classic " 8 " point game so early in the season, so much to play for in the games nobs V tigers & Oms V friars, not to mention the rupie wanting to hold onto their 1 game break on the chasing pack as they take on the giant killing districts,

Anyway see how we go

Nobs ( 2.05 )V Tigers ( 1.55 ) - Nobs to much to play for, 8pts

Oms ( 1.80 ) V Friars ( 1.90 ) - At home Om back on the winners list, 22pts

Rupo ( 1.40 ) V Sth Melb ( 2.90 ) - Can't go past the rupie at home - 33pts

Prahran ( 1.60 ) V Aquinas ( 2.80 ) - Two blues to get the job done over a dissapointing Aquinas outfit - ( Lock of the week right here ) - 45pts

Fitzroy ( 1.20 ) - Emmaus St Leos' ( 3.50 ) Royboys by plenty - 63pts

Two blues - get up you good things !!!

South Melb has not travelled well. Expect another Rupo win. Probably more than last week. Brunnhilde is warming up as we communicate.

I'm a games record holder myself, so congrats 'Sangers':thumbsu:

Song of the week: 'Young Man Blues'.

Congrats to Brad 'Sangers' Whitehead on breaking the club's game record this week. ;)

Good to see - thought we had knocked the wind out of him last week but he was back on after about a qtr

My tips for this week if I can recall the games correctly

R'wood easily over SMD who are right back in the mix the last 2 weeks. The Woods by 7 goals

Om's are back at home against Whitefriars - to be honest Friars kept getting bracketed in the top group - Im yet to see it to be honest based on results. OMS by 42 points

Prahran are competitive evry week but can they actually win. Would be good to see (nothing against Aquinas) but until they do win I cant waste a tip. Aquinas to get 4 points by 4 goals

That leaves Nobs and Werribee - Matt A is big inclusion for Werribee who have only had 1 hiccup this year. I'll roll with the Tigers again - 30 pts

Finally we will try and bounce back against the media juggernaught. Prob our 1-3 start is the only reason this wont draw more than the Dee's down the road. I'll take ESL at the line which would be about +42.5

Funny I grew up barracking for the Roys till 1996 - should be a interesting weekend.

Cheers

The medicos have been working overtime this week at Royland with sliced fingers, broken ankles, torn adductors and the odd interstate funeral providing plenty of headaches re: selection.

Fortunately, footy's most enthusiatic assistant coach, Jimmy "you're gunna love this" Taylor will finally make his long awaited debut tomorrow, bursting out of his skin tight Roys jumper a la Mickey Conlan/Doug Barwick back in the mid-80's.

The Gun Show will commence at 2pm at BSO.

Should be a great game between two hard and committed sides. :thumbsu:

Notice Jimmy will wear #00 in red, yella and blue. Is this a condition of his TAC contract Blade?

Rosco - about 8 of those numbers listed are wrong, and a couple of the 'ins', (including myself) were never out from last week. Accordingly only limited information can be garnered from the new (post-Mappa) FFC website.

I understand they're currently tapering in an XXL jumper across the chest into a narrow 32" waist to accomodate our esteemed (ex)-leader's chiselled physique. Number on the back will be #39. One thing's for sure, if he manages to nail anyone in a full force tackle, the poor unsuspecting opponent will know about it!!!

Is it now fair to say that NOBS are in real trouble.

Their coach, sacked the previous coach and apppointed himself as the saviour of the club, with no process.

He then proceeded to win 10 games straight (feeling pretty good about himself) then lose 8 of the next 10 and go our in inglorious straight sets.

They have now only won one game this year, so that makes it 3 from. their last 15.
They (the coach) have promoted this year as "unfinished business'.

Well, he may just be remembered as the man who sent them to D2 and that would surely sound the deathnell for them as a club.

Let's hope he doesn't take another of his mid season golf holidays this year, like he did last year!!

Time for a few wins fellas!

Rupppo had a ggggood win in the end against SMD by 82pts. Bloody hell SMD were up by 3pts at the 15min mark of the the third quarter as "Qua" picked up his 90th possesion, still had another 20 (the wind blew a few off target), then all of a suuden we went bang, bang and bang again.
Good win against a side who will account themselves with pride and passion week in week out. The score does not reflect whatsoever the difference, we will be in for a tough game over there next round.

Rocky, NOBS have some winnable games coming up, having seen NOBS, all they have to do is believe in themselves a bit more. Definitely will not be relegated and will win between 8-10 games

Down by 2 goals at 3 quarter time kicking into the wind SMD rolled the dice in an attempt to win the game which obviously left the defence a tad exposed. While the result will raise a few eyebrows around the comp no one is slashing their wrists at south. The result only confirms what we all think about Rupo and their C grade aspirations. Well done Rupo!

They will need tham KB.
when you sack a coach and basicallly tell him he is not up to it., then you would want to be pretty confident you have the goods? Yes??

The current guy apppointed himself( he was president at the time!!) with absolutley no process and promised the world but choked big time last year.

Whoops, please don't mention last years finals!!

No advertisement, no interviews just Terry appointing himself despite not having coached for 25 years!! Fact!

He went on a golf holiday mid year. Fact.

If, the self appointed coach, sends them to D2, he will certainly go down in history at NOBs, as he hoped he would but for different reasons.

I repeat, they have won 3 of their past 15 under the self appointed Terry Scanlon..what goes around comes around....

Imagine Terry if you send them to d2 after appointing yourself coach.???

What then??

Let's hope they can survive!

It's been a long day.

Whichever way you look at it SMD were killed after 1/4 time. Played pretty smart footy in the first quarter - kept possession by chipping it around and took advantage of the wind and a couple of handy forwards. After 1/4 time it was 19 goals to four and Rupo kicked the last 13 of the game. Neither team has a great deal of flexibility and tend to stick to plan A. It's an amazing result for Rupo. They wouldn't struggle to fill the cast of Snow White. Have plenty of negatives but you can't beat the class of the elite players. Can't see them getting beaten.
