Aquinas VNOBS by 3 points - Aquinas's young pups to dig deep.
SMD V Peninsula by 36 points - SMDs no good.
OMs V Werribee by 12 points - Tough away trip. Werribee in the same position as last year when OMs derailed the Sh!t train. Same again!!!
BT V Willy by 15 points - Bulleen to strong at home
Friars V Monash by 1 points - to keep there season alive

Lesters tips:
NOBs by 4 goals
Peninsula by 8 goals
Werribee by 8 goals
BT by 6 goals
Monash by 3 goals

What was all that crap about the home ground advantage I have been going on with - 4 away teams to win easily....hug an ump this weekend.

Les out.

Just a query to Panda or Table Tennis.

How did NOBS stack up against other opposition. I know they have 1/2 a side of quality to come into the side that played Williamstown, Bulleen Temp and Werribee - but they are pretty hard to gauge at the moment as they have won at home against low teams but havnt beaten any strong sides, but they have all been away.

Selections:

Aquinas V NOBS by 3 points - a major danger game for NOBs.
SMD V Peninsula by by 78 points
OMs V Werribee by 60 points
BT V Willy by 30 points
Friars V Monash by 12 points, will upset Monash to make NOBS Friars the following week a season breaker.

NOBS ae always competitive and match up well with Werribee. Fair to say we have never trounced them, not even at home which can be the case when teams travel down there.

Both teams can say they were missing players (our starting ruckman and Cam Lee who is probably our most influential player) but its very rarely that a team has their BEST 22 playing.

Trevor's Tips for Round 7

Aquinas v NOBs - serious time to make a move on the four for NOBS and they should have the ability to win this one

SMD v Peninsula - well SMD beat Aquinas and they beat Peninsula so SMD can make some claims here - will be a check on any improvement and if they get within 5 goals of the pirates at the end I'd say ok work

OMs v Werribee - can see OMs going with the runners from the west for about a half and then they have to stop the blitz. However very interested to see how the bees handle this testing away trip

BT v Willy - looks like I'm going for the truly bizarre and tipping all away teams this week. Willy seem to be hitting form so gives the pattern a chance of coming through, but won't start favorites

Friars v Monash - big respect for the home ground advantage and hoping Monash can work hard for 4 quarters and get over the line - should be a tight day in the main game but even if some don't care am looking forward to the twos. We are getting a bit of joy after hardly winning a ressies game for the last 4 years or so! Enjoy it while you can...

Fortified by a solid Beef Bourguignon and a top bottle of St Hugo 2002 prior to the game I came down to watch the clash at Friar Park, my 3rd viewing in 4 weeks. I must admit that I haven't seen the doom & gloom predicted by all Friar supporters in fact I haven't seem them lose since the Werribee clash last year (admittedly I missed Peninsula)! But a club that wins as often at home as our mob are at least a chance to sneak into a finals berth, although reports of the Cgulls were most impressive!!!

Today was a good old fashioned stoush and a testament to our great former captain Batey, in word & action today as our boys busted their boilers to record a win full of old fashioned grit & determination! Monash as usual were terrific and came in for a couple of cold convivials, good club and good history with the Friars!

Umps are getting vastly less resilient and have to say that I was shocked with some of their efforts, 2 * 25M penalties against the CROWD resulted in 2 goals and could have easily influenced the result of the game. We love the Umps but please be a bit thicker skinned if you expect everyone to hold their tongue, it's a bit of give & take! If not then don't do the job and certainly don't get grumpy if you're dropped from a higher grade!

Anyway we are in there scrapping for another day!

I thought they were better this week but as someone said most people dont get as frustrated by them when the game is 1 sided as it was last week, but cant believe they paid 25m penalties against the crowd, that is hilarious, shame I was at the other end :D
Great win by the bloods today.Ground was on the wet side which suited the bloods who came to play.Big game next week with Mentone at Aquinas,Go Bloods.

Yep there was definately a couple against the crowd. Unbelievable! Great win by the friars showing what they are capable of. Must string some wins together now to keep pushing for top 4.

Also of note was the ressie game which was one of the toughest I have played in. Both the ashes and the friars relentless at the footy for a full 4 quarters in a quality hitout which we learnt alot from. The ashes better on the day but we look forward to our next encounter at the uni.

Hey Lakeman

Very surprising result in the 2's...more the fact your fellas were to kept to 3 goals at home! Had to rub the Sunday eyes just to be sure. Were Monash that good?

Hey there fatman,

They are a quality outfit who run out games. They also have a number of handy talls and some great inside mids who were impressive.

As I said we learnt alot from that game and probably werent at our best in a few areas which we will work on for next time.

Just stoked with the win in the later game though really which negates any disappointment I had with the end result in the twos.

With the news that umps can pay 25s against the crowd, I will be wearing opposition colours to games for the rest of the season.

what exactly did the crowd do to deserve these penalities? and how bad must the crowd behave for that to happen? the other week at the bees vs cgulls game, the coaching staff for the cgulls yelled out at the ump for the was an "fing toss bag" yet there were no penalities paid there.

a little consistency wouldn't go a stray now would it

The crowd did pretty much nothing which is what is most disappointing. There wasnt even any bad language involved. Further to that im pretty sure that its not even within the umps rights to pay frees against the crowd unless the bench or coaching staff or officials are involved(which in this case they werent).

Anyway hopefully we dont see this happen again.

I was at the Monash Friars game too and missed the 25s against the crowd - too busy lamenting our effort. Not disparaging Friars - they created the problems! The reality is after coming down a Grade this year that the umpires are down a grade too and that's just how it goes... However, there were several times when the little fella blew the whistle and everyone there looked to see which way his arm would point! Well done Friars on the win and hospitality...always next week...

Agreed, but when you don't even get it from the 'professionals' in the AFL, you've got more chance of seeing God line up at CHF for BT this wkend than of seeing consistency from the umps in the ammos.

...lucky for you Parade's not in our division!!!

purple and green...what a bunch of homos!

Having never umpired a game it's tough to make comment, it may be a very difficult caper. Some of the decisons I've seen this year though are just mind boggling, for and against us.

I think some umps watch too much AFL and should just keep it simple, just protect the players going hardest at the footy (like A.Kenez) and let the rest go.

I've played plenty of times where you can tell the umpire has watched the footy the night before.

Yeah good contribution mate....your brain obviously can't cope with the logic required to understand that the ongoing abuse is the cause of the problem not the effect.

I can cope with the logic required but the fact of the matter is some umps go out there with a hidden agenda and thats when abuse happens.
You can agree or not but its very obvious when they pay frees etc that arent warranted because they either like the player, dont like the team or they want the other team back in the game for some instances.
Deny it all you want but the only time the crowd should come into play where frees are going to be paid against the team playing is when there is abuse towards the umps by either the players or coaching staff.
if they are going to complain about the crowd, thats what the after match review that they need to complete is for.
Also, crowd members in the past have caused several teams to pay fines of $250. I've attended games where fines have came out of them but there has never been 25m given to either team.

Whether your an ump in the VAFA or the AFL you have to have a thick skin and cant let the banter or abuse from the crowd get the better of you.

Give the umps a rest. I am sure no one goes out to make a bad decision and at the end of the day we wouldn’t be able to play without them.

Lets leave the ump bashing to another thread and get back to talking footy.

Yeah! Or they'll give you a 25!

really is an amazing ladder at the moment, so even.

what is everyones thoughts on the 5 teams currently at 3-4, include monash in there for good measure. who do we think will drop in and out? (if anyone will)
every game seems so crucial now with these 6 teams playing each other so often, there are a lot of 8 point games!

based on recent form and my own bias im tipping Williamstown to come in for OM's who must be seething after narrowly going down to Werribee on the weekend. Do we think peninsula are guarenteed finals? their next two weeks against werribee and NOBS will tell us more. how many do we think will get you into the top 4 spot?

included monash in there because a win for us this week will bring Monash back to the main pack at 4-4

10 wins will probably be enough to sneak into the four - percentage will be important.

Peninsula are 3 games plus decent percentage ahead of the 5th team now so they are looking pretty safe -they probably only need to win 4 of their last 11 to get the 10 wins. They are good enough to do that!

That leaves the next 6 teams fighting for 2 spots the way I see it. And throw a blanket over the lot especially if Willy beat Monash which they will be favourites to do on current form! Every game is massive from here on and no doubt there will be a couple of deciders in Rd 18...

I think Aquinas are nearly gone having OMs and Werribee to finish off the first half, and they are gone if they don't win at least one of those. If they win them both they are right back in it, but big ask. SMD need a miracle to get to 10 wins from here.

Come on Trev, be bold, give us something better!! So you think that Aquinas and SMD might struggle to make the finals!!! Next you will tell me that I am unlikely to beat Venus Williams in the French Open.

I have no idea but think the finalists will be Werribee, Peninsula, NOBs, Ashes. Won't be decided until the last round......

Should be a great weekend of amatuer footy in D1

Tips for this week.
NOBS V WHITEFRIARS - 2 goals
AQUINAS V OMs -with the weetbix 'chris graham" kid in abit of form it should be 6 goal win to the panthers
PENINSULA V WERRIBEE - 3 goals to continue on oms pressure from last week
WILLY V MONASH in a draw nothing between them
BULLEEN v SMDs - easy

what are your thoughts?
