Greetings all,

sorry I have been off line for a while, the roy has been on a recruiting drive in Sth Africa courtesy of the Reds. (I know I wasn't supposed to tell Frase but I couldn't help myself) Expect to see a couple of fine prospects running out at the BSO before too long.

Now Camo (can I call you that?) lets not talk down the boys, we are shoe ins for a top four, you superlative performance has the magoos flying and I know that enquiries have been made with marquee companies to hire one when we bring home two flags come september.

Keep up the good work Scribe, my spies tell me you are already being spoke about for higher duties at some rival clubs who may not be performing so well.

Expect to hear more from the great one (The Red) soon.

Yours in greatness

The Roy

I suspect you have a bit of jetlag then Red Roy. Neither of the sides that played out the dramatic game on Saturday will feature in finals action in my opinion (I hope I'm wrong though). If it was based on guts alone, the yes, the Reds would, but their skills were just too poor compared to the other sides to make an impact against the likes of NOBs or Bulleen.

Still, it was a great day

Wouldn't right of the Roy Boys yet.

With a young side, there's much scope for improvement over the course of the year, and Saturday's win will provide them with a bit of a fillup -- that and the incredible amount of media coverage they've received of late.... apparently there's a yarn on Ten News tonight.

Also, word has it a film crew were in tow on Saturday.

Looking forward to Fitzroy Reds: The Movie.

Saw a bit of the BT/OM game. The 'name' players at OM were down as the result suggests. Hard to fathom how BT have such an impressive record at home. Doesn't seem to be any significant difference in the ground. Granted they are a decent side and are only winning home games in D1.

So if the Mentone 'name' players were down as you say, does that mean you reckon they're a better side than Bulleen Temp? I'll assume you're a Mentone supporter/player since you don't sound like a Bullant and I doubt you'd make the trip out to Thompsons Road for the scenery.

Correct.

Not a Mentone supporter or player. Have a keen interest in Amateur footy and was out that way last weekend, hence only seeing a bit.

I'm blushing, no really.

Pretty sure Old Camberwell won't require my services Roy, but thanks for the tip there old son. ;)

Did you consult any multiple personality specialists whilst in sunny Capetown?

Bullsh*t idiot. You sound like Conduct Unbecoming. "I'm just a keen follower of the game". what a load of cr#p! Put your name/allegiance forward and you'll get some credibility. If not, keep your stupid comments to yourself.

Clown.

It seems Half Back Pocket has some anger issues or has drank far too much coffee this morning. Michael Yawn doesn't have to do shit

I appreciate the kind words and can assure you there's no allegiance whatsoever with a side in your comp. It's as simple as being an ex-player in both the VAFA & SFL and paying an interest in the local clubs/comps.

Might just be me but it seems this thread has gone to the dogs...

Apologies to the few who write good stuff or actually talk about footy stuff an know how to have a giggle.

Not really interested in the bickering or who's the toughest alias on big footy, or someone arguing back because they didn't get the gag in the first place.

I think i want Fitzroy to either make the GF or get relegated cos they seem to be the main culprits for bringing this thread to its knees.

See you at the footy, (or the races!!)

yours in football,
whip!!

Good stuff OW - that'll whip everyone back into shape. You set the standard, we'll try to match it old son.

Scribe,

I have noticed the Reds have a couple of guys in the twos who know where the big sticks are. Any chance they might be able to solve the woes in front of goal for the Reds in the Seniors ? Mappa was there when I played, and is a good kick, but is probably not a ones player any more, but what's the story with Pinkster. Don't know much about him. 10 goals is a fair return !

It's his thumb.

NOBS clearly the team to beat after playing BT on Saturday. Won't get near them away from their own patch.

Dont completely.......... agree sorry, what I will say is both BT and NOBS are the teams to beat and after this Sat's showdown we'll see who is setting the standard, I think it will be NOBS with a completely new team compared to the team that led to their demise to D1 this year. The team sheet seen 27 signings this year.... did a team fold or something??? NOBS have undoubtably been the quiet achievers this year after everyone wrote them off during pre-season.

Old Geelong are a challenger too I believe, but have a fair way to go if they want to challenge for a GF spot.

Classic case of a fella who came down last year (from Gembrook in the YVMDFL), didn't get the most out of himself, went backwards pretty quickly and spent the bulk of the season languishing in the 3rds.

Obviously he decided to do something about it, and presented in November (which was a total surprise to me) in great condition, did a full preseason, played a couple of senior PMs and has been very solid in the 2nds thus far. Good grab, good kick, reasonable pace, so he could play a role in the coming weeks if the coaches want to set up that way.

I think even Harps would agree that his 10 goals in the weekend's curtain-raiser may not be the most dominant performance ever seen on BSO. He probably got 6 to 7 of those through good hard work/talent and a few 'cheapies' along the way. I was just as impressed with his 4 goal effort against Yarra last weekend

Still, pretty hard to go past as our BOG. If he gets his chance, it would be just reward for his efforts and we will all wish him well.

As for Mappa, he played in defence the 2nd half of last week after bagging 5 at FF the week before - I just wanted him to play on Harps as often as possible. If I had a choice at the club of a player to kick a goal for my life, he'd probably be it (though Nick Percy has put in very strong claims with his siren buster on Saturday)

Mappa was very lucky my hamstrings tightened in the pre match warm up.

Twanging like the banjo strings in Deliverance.

Or so I heard.

Don't you love it when the mainstream media report D1 matches as "VAFA Division One"? Keep setting the standard, boys!

Disappointed in Ten's coverage of the game, but have it saved on my PC anyway, might drop it to Youtube or something later.

John Harm's article in todays Age (sport pg 7) is a decent read, shame about the ending.

Is there a media outlet in Australia that hasn't reported on the BSO thriller?

As a former player who played at NOBS whom did this years pre-season, there were a few major changes at NOBS i noticed which were not evident during the previous seasons. With a new coaching staff and the recruiting of some highly talented players, the retained players had a sense of belief they would have a successful year this year. During the pre-season there were on average 35-45 at training which looks great for attracting new players and the flow on effect is massive numbers at training now (winning doesnt hurt either) I hope the boys do win the flag and get back up to the sections where they have been previously.

Harper, I played under Killer last year, besides all the rubbish i read on the forums earlier in the year, how is he going down there?

Killer is going well homebake. It would be fair to say that his tenure got off to a shakey start with poor numbers on the track for pre season. Not his fault. I think the clubs outstanding success the previous two seasons left a lot of players flat and lacking motivation and direction. 5 rounds into a D1 season and both coach and players have gelled and I'd expect to see a massive improvement over the next 13 weeks.
I'm currently working on a book with the working title of "Coaches say the darndest things" featuring some of Killers best work. As many players from NOBS, Yarra and SMD would attest Killer comes out with some cracking phrases. Very entertaining stuff, perhaps we could start a thread.

Greg Madigan, how's your little brother? used to play in a footy team with him for the mighty Bulleen Bulls.

As many of us on this thread will attest, HBP has had issues since his first post - seems to have logged on and tried to prove himself from day one. Take a step back kid - your embarrassing yourself (again).

Michael was offering an unbiased opinion as a football observer - Need your permission to do that? Na, didn't think so. Tool.

Have you declared your identity to all and sundry? Na, didn't think so. Tool.
