Hey Dr

why do you acknowledge BB from the SFL. He and his mates jumped ship to a weaker comp. Oh by the way snipfish20 agrees BB is a moron
Phantom, responding to the Scout Hall predator, the Guru. Guru's judgement quite often accurate. I liked his "scruff of the neck" call. Not sure about the Port Man, I wouldn't want him looking after my superannuation. Surely there is a circle of trust at Bentleigh that can set straight on foolish punting at this early stage.

The Beard appears well suited to the SFL, making the big calls on a single practice match, that's not very bright.

Not coming to the rescue of Bentleigh Beard but:

Read or don't read into anything you want Dr Truth . But the fact of the matter is, Bentleigh only had 35 players available (due to weddings parties anything etc) on Saturday for both 1s & 2s practice matches, against Glen Eira. The 2s played with only 17 men on the ground.

I know GE had "3 key forwards" out (so I was informed) but I know 4 Bentleigh players had to double up for the 1s & play at least 7 quarters for the day.

As you are aware we won both matches. Phantom will vouch for this ;)

I'm not sure what this says about "flag favourites" Glen Eira for 2011?

Hey Snipefish20, It was a good hit out for both teams I think. From what I saw both teams had a number of players double up, and G.E at one stage had most of their players out of position ( forwards in the backline, and back men up forward) which you do in praccy matches to try things out. I wouldn't take G.E form in that game too serious. Let's not forget the the 7 points you got for the point just on half time, went in with 2.7 on the board came out with 3.7 :eek::p:p:D:D

Looking forward to a few frothies in the new pavillion after the game and come late saturday afternoon we should all have a slightly clearer picture as to where we all stand. Who are the contenders and who's the pretenders. You can get the first couple of rounds Dr T and Akka Dakka

Okay. Here's my selections for the opening round.

La Trobe University vs Aquinas
Emmaus St Leo's vs Old Eltham
St Mary's Salesian vs Old Westbourne
Therry Penola vs South Melbourne Districts
St Johns vs Glen Eira

Good luck to all teams.

Not to many suprises from the weekends results! Fair few goals kicked in windy conditions! Is the La Trobe ressies score a club record 32 18 210?

Tough day for Aquinas yesterday looking at both 1's and 2's!! Lets hope they can sort themselves out rather quickly!

Can anyone shed some more light on Therry vs Sth Melb? Result suggests game could have gone either way?

Good win by the SMS boys over OW. Were behind for most of the day and down and out a few times but was good to get over the line in the end. Tough one this week against Latrobe who piled on the pain to Aquinas.

What happened Saturday Snipefish 20. Many players missing or just not up to it.

Strobes-I noticed that Vamvakas and Tsirogiannis played in the reserves on Saturday. Have they retired from senior footy or did they have a short preseason? Spink again seems to be the number 1 ruckman in the comp. How were St Johns? I din't expect it to be that close. Also no Dimashki. Is he injured or has he left?

Also it seems Ciavola played both games for the turtles and kicked 13 goals. Not a bad day out.

I just glanced at the teams but it looks as though a few players played 2 games. This could be trouble if this will be the trend of teams relying on double ups.

After round 1 there looks to be a few interesting matches next week.

Vamvakas will play two's. Tsirogiannis underdone so played 2's. Dimma recovering from injury should be ok after Easter. A few more unavailable in seniors due to injury and work committments. all good after easter

Aquinas tried hard all day in the seniors and resies but both team are full of under 18 and 19 players with a few older bigger body type blokes

Nah just a lot stronger comp is SFL Div 2, it seems all the quality players that side of North Rd come out of Kangaroo Rd, who would have thought?

Massive crowd for the Southern FM radio game of the week, made a truck load over the bar & canteen. These next couple of years should set up the club to be one of the most financial in the area. But although tempting, sorry we can't merge with you, it seems the Balaclava-Glenhuntly-St Kilda-South Caulfield Bentleigh Demons is just too long to say :)

Congrats on the close win against the promoted side though

Amazing the difference in crowds and atmosphere Sniper.. As you know i am now in Div 2 EFL and i assume its the same in SFL.. Massive difference to the VAFA where you get 50 people to watch a game.

Griff, it is no secret you get bigger crowds when you can sell alcohol at games. You also have the advantage in local comps of having local derby's. As you know I have played and coached in both div 1 and 2 Eastern and div 2 southern and there is no doubt you get bigger crowds but with that comes a much greater "********" factor, particularly in the SFL. A lot of blokes do not know when to stop and the aggressive nature in which they support and the language that is used is not always a great atmosphere to be involved in.

I know the type you're getting at Bails, but our club has inforced a "bar remains closed until the 1s game approach" (private functions excluded of course). With the match on Saturday strangely finishing early at 4.15pm, the large crowd had limited time to get tanked during the game.

Was pleasantly surprised that both Beena & Bentleigh crowds were very docile & just enjoyed the footy, with the game broadcasted outside on someone's large Makita radio. Great atmosphere. And extra funds generated from extra bar/canteen sales will go along way

Yeah i hear what you are saying for sure..I have copped some ripping sprays in my time from drunk fools..but all in all i reckon its pretty good! I just forgot (being in the VAFA for the past 6 years) how much of a difference there is, Its great to hear a bigger crowd go nuts during a close final quarter..!

No such rule at the Waverley Blues... there would be a riot if we bought that in!!! hahaahh!

5/5 for Rd 1 tipping.

Appears Aquinas could be in for long year & Old Westbourne with 4 away games to start year could really hurt them.

Now for rd 2 tips.

Latrobe vs SMS - interesting game to see where both sides are at. Home team too strong in a close one - 15pts.

Eltham vs Aquinas - Eltham to get on the board by 51pts. Interesting to see Galvin facing the tribunal? result?

SMD vs Glen Eira - Sth Melb to get on board as well, Glen Eira may have some fitness concerns over a few key players - 5pts.

St Leo's Vs Old Westbourne - Home ground advantage, Stleo's by 33pts.

Therry vs StJohns - Therry by 28pts, StJohns 0-2 to go into Easter.

Bit early for tips. Anyone have a brief match report they would like to put in?

Who impressed for you, who impressed from the opposition etc? Who is this J. George who kicked 6 for TP, and N. Robin who kicked 6 for St/ Leos???

St Marys vs Old Westbourne

We got off to a great start on the weekend, with a 4 goal lead at quarter time. To SMS credit they fought there way back into the game, and it was goal for goal for the last quarter and a bit. SMS, in front of their home crowd and new rooms were too good. Very disappointing but hopefully we can go one better this week.

Few new blokes went well for us including Stiles and Wallace. For SMS I was impressed by their captain (no.5) at CHB, no. 7 in the midfield was good again, although he only runs one way. Any news on if Singh is playing for SMS this year?

Singh has taken an Assistant Coaches role at Castlemaine this year.

Perhaps Singh chasing $$$ again![/quote]

What are you on about!!! He went from Salesians to Collegians then back to Salesians.. all while he was on Collingwoods VFL list.. not sure how you would think that is chasing the $$ "again"!!

Good opportunity for him to do something different.

Singh is a very good player as seen last year on a number of occasions before he disappeared. Not really a team player though so not sure how he will go as a coach. You can't really begrudge a player of his talent going after some coin but wouldnt say he is coach material.
