Word spreads quickly, i heard of this too only due to links with one of the clubs involved.

Couple of solid 1 on 1 bouts too, and from reports Carey copped a few rippers!!

Was the boundary umpire involved from St Leos?? Any truth in this?

not sure about the boundary but haymakers going everywhere. It was like a good old fashioned rugny league brawl

Don't know what happended to the reports from this game?

Yes as far as footy brawls go it was a good one. The first spot fire did involve the St L boundary umpire getting involved and trying to drag SMS players off St L boys, stupid thing to do and lucky he didnt get whacked as that would have lead to all sorts of trouble for all involved just becuase this blokes a total knob and prob deserved to get whacked! If you not playing STAY OUT!! But the big brawl broke out later on in the game with haymakers everywhere. No 15 for St L let loose after No 12 from SMS hit one of the St L boys with a high hip and shoulder after having exchanged (and lost) blows with 15 a couple of minutes earlier. These things happen from time to time and certainly no ill feeling towards STL

Guru Out!

So Carey got belted, and got reported *Phillip Carey, Emmaus St. Leos. Attempting to strike, 1 match. Bad day out for the bloke.

Hey guys, just had a look at the vafa web site. Can anyone explain to me why they are playing 3rd vs 4th on the sat and 1st vs 2nd on the sunday? Would have thought you would have them the other way round.
EDIT: (They have changed this now)

Hey Dr Truth, I looked for you after the SMS game for a drink. I see you are now on the Southern site, have you moved clubs? Do you think it was a good thing to stay up again of would it have been better in D3 to regroup? By the way you haven't improved on the red wine. $5 for a glass from a $7 bottle of Rawson's retreat, better to serve from a cask. Cheers

I can't speak on behalf of the Doctor but from my perspective i was hoping for a miracle Aquinas victory to send us to D3. I think we need to rebuild a little but you never know, next year is a long time away. If we can keep the under 19 boys and get them running around in the seniors i think we can climb up the ladder a little but would prob need some outside recruits IMO. But enough about that, all the best to the teams in the finals both 1's and 2's

 Guru does not speak for the majority of the players and committee of SMS. We are rapt to have stayed up and are looking forward to improving markedly next year. Going down to D3 would not have helped the club rebuild. Surely the higher the grade the more likely you are to recruit decent players. The club is heading in the right direction and with a very good group of 19's coming through the club will be hoping for a marked improvement in season 2012.

being quite a fan of D2 over the past few years, I am actually very interested in SMS in future years, i saw a few of there games this year, but the one that impressed me the most was when they played the JOC's in round 14. They played a very young side and it was very clear that they were not scared of their opposition and not threatened by anyone. the main highlights i took out of this game were:

a 16 year old boy for SMS dominating the game

the courage shown by one of their youngsters going back with the flight, resulting in what looked like a season ending injury

the fact that all of the SMS youngsters kept going in hard all day (honestly i thought after the big fight at quarter time, i thought they would be scared of the ball! especially since i think one of the youngsters started it!)

thats my interpretation of the future for SMS, now that was just one game, so im not too sure how accurate that is. could someone associated with SMS tell me whether they agree/disagree and where they think the club will be in a few years time.

Congratulations to all who did well in tonight's vote count.

What makes you say that table tennis?
Also, congrats to Jarrod Egglestone. Has been a standout at CHB for Therry in his first season as skipper.

Akka, any chance ben Hudson pulls on a ow jumper next year?

Everyone seems to be asking that question.......

Pretty sure Ben will move back to QLD, but I haven't spoken to him in a while, so I'm not 100% sure.

I will be asking the question though!!

Great effort by Eggelestone. Was great both times we played Therry, leading from the front. Nice bloke as well.

well the home and away is done and dusted for this year good luck to the two relegated teams i hope to see you back soon
now on to the serious part the finals

GE v St Johns by 2 goals
Therry v Eltham by 6 points

PS, Rawsons Retreat, how could you drink that....... at any any price. SMS saw you coming. Like to keep an eye on the SFL, have an interest in the MSJFL.

Agree with the Guru, was time for SMS to hit D3, hopefully next year won't be another battle at the bottom of the ladder.

GE boys should be congratulated for Saturday, they kept their traps shut, through 4 quarters of one-sided umpiring. The scoreline was flattering to the home side. Not a springboard to go back into D2 next year.

Good work getting a final at Alf Beus stadium. I got that wrong. Coburg hosting the VWFL, not sure that will be a great viewing, so might venture to the beach on Saturday and if you put your hand up, I'll buy you a Pepperjack upstairs.

Doubt Therry will lose to the turtles two weeks in a row...

Agreed, Dr. Hopefully tomorrow we get better umpiring, spoils a good game. All the best to all teams competing, have never watched my 2's in a final, so hopefully they have sucess. GO SAINTERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:thumbsu:

Agree with your tips except for the last one Clint.

Seniors
GE over the JOCs in a tight one.
Therry to get over the turtles....although Ciavola is the wild card.If Egglestone goes back to Ciavola, Therry win that duel, but they are sacrificing a helluva lot of drive off half back to do so.

Ressies
JOCs over the students, because they still feel like they owe them.

In the 2nd semi-the GE magoos spotted Therry a fair start a few weeks back and reeled them in comfortably.
Both teams probably had a few in the Senior side that day, but on form GE just.

Agreed completely.

Disagree with Sayna, Therry's depth runs much deeper. They had a lot of clubbies players in that side two weeks ago.

My tips for the seniors this week are Glen Eira and Therry. And in the resies Glen Eira and St John's

In their two games before G.E and one after 100 ,150,200 point wins they only had 5 , 2 ,3 players different to the team that played G.E. I think it will be a good game, but think G.E should get the win.
