It seems that football, even in the lower grades, is getting more & more professional every year. Gone are the days where you can rock up a week or 2 before Round 1. Looks like the boys at SMS are putting their best foot forward.
But somethings don't change especially in the lower grades, if you cant get the footy or don't know what to do with it when you get it, does it really matter what food you put in your mouth or how quick you can run 3km?

Trying to do so Sniper. I quess if the club puts everything it can at the hands of the players then its really up to them in the end if we are successful (assuming you have a good list of quality players, which we beleive we will)

Yeah all good mate!! We had our first run last Wednesday, had over 40 there and it was a good night!! The new coaches really work well together and have alot of good football level experiance for young guys (28). all the players seem raring to go and seem to be very impresses so far!! They have also bought along a fitness coach, who im guessing wont be the most popular bloke around!! We also have a dietician on board also.... (we will see how that goes!!!!). So i guess so far so good!

So I guess it's salad rolls, tofu and sushi in your canteen this year!:D

No good having all the skills in the world if your not fit enough to beat your opponent to the ball, even if he is a crap footballer.

Some of us are trying to keep the dream alive.

you can be the fittest guy going around but the fact of the matter is - if can't play, you can't play.....its as simple as that.

my sources tell me that most of the Salesian guys have left, is this case?

If you can play and your not fit your skills will go to pot by the 3rd quarter. Effectively your team would be a man short because you can't keep up. Skills are no good without fitness.

How many times does a better side get beaten because they were not fit enough and ran out of legs in the 3rd quarter.

It happens all the time at every level of football.

That may be true but if you have two gun footballers going head to head all game one who put in on the track, bigger, stronger and faster from a full pre-season and is properly hydrated and fuelled and one who didn't train, didn't watch their diet who do you think will still be going in the last quarter or for that matter after quarter time? Well done to the sms boys, although i hope their doing road runs cause laps of ferndale might not be long enough :p

That's a big unsubstantiated call. Put your money where your mouth is. You got sources for that? Where did you get that info?

I call BS.

Geez, a little touchy boys....doesn't take much to make you little boys cry...
my source is ex-Salesian player who went on to bigger things at another club....

From page 89 of the Hun today (sorry couldn't find a link) under their "Pulse" column it reports Greg Tivendale has committed to play out his days at ROC in the Casey-Kardinia league. Apparently turned down some lucrative offers from VFL clubs to return to the club he played for as a young'un. No mention of his love for Bentleigh though...

so which category do you fit into magicroach? how much seniort footy have you played?

i would back at a lower grade an unfit Sharp over a fit *******. I am with justafan, the fit ******* would fumble & sharp would snag his 8th goal in the 3rd term on his way 10 or 12 because if you cant play, you cant play especially at this level

Mate, he's not the one but good guess....and he left like 10 years ago and so did my source
He was saying that they have lost the majority of the Salesian players....true or not thats what he said....

Mick Hazell played with us in 07 and coached the year before mate!!! Your information is great.......

Since we merged we have lost only Mick hazell to St Bedes, Levi Phipps to Chadstone and Patty Dunne to torronga Malvern. There are a few older blokes that retired (all played clubbies this year) and thats it! Patty is back for 2009, hopefully Levi too..!!! All other players are keen as mustard for 09 and we have lost no-one....

Would love to know who the ex-salesian player your talking about is, because they are wrong (unless they are talking about a few retirements last year????)

Tivendale was never on the cards to play at Bentleigh. That was obviously another rumour.
