Yeah a fair matchup for rivalry round with both coming down from D2.
Are there other notable significance in the other games?
UHS-VU v West Brunswick
Elsternwick v Monash
Power House v Hawthorn
St Johns v St.F.X.
Having not played against any of these clubs before, I'm not sure of any grudge matches or rivalries..

i'll lend in to this also:

the battle of the best side along royal parade??
the battle of the tighest pockets to kick goals from in the division??
grand final replay of 2006 - the hawks will be looking for atonement after being belted.
no form here so theyll create a new rivalry!!
st marys salesian will be looking to get back at us after we gave them some 100 point business in round 18, 2008.

comments, gentlemen...

Unfortunately that's all Bentleigh could hang their hat on last year (that & the Therry Penola win).:(
But yes different year, different players & a whole new ball game next year. So probably can't get ahead of ourselves really.

I'm thinking someone like Dennis Cometti could come out with a stat on how many times a relegated team won a match by 100 points in the same season.
Must be pretty rare?? Considering any win was quite rare in itself.. let alone a three-figure margain!!

SMS's Round 18 team was very different to the one that played the first time around. Although their seconds in R18 seemed very good, almost as if it was made up of some senior players (No. 3 Lachy or Locky for example);).

My point is, most teams should forget about what happened in 2008 as a lot of water will flow under bridge before Round 9 2009 comes around.

Still, I'm sure you're aware of the saying, you can only beat who you're put up against.
We played a lot of kids that day too..

Yeah our team was very different week by week last year!! Couldnt keep anyone on the track!!! By round 18 I think the whole senior side where about to quit football!!!! Taking nothing away from bentleigh of coarse...

**laugh** no thats all that needs to be said on the matter, griff. round 9, 2009 will be such a different game when it rolls around.

we'll both probably be 8-0 & sitting 1 2 on the ladder!!

no need for that stewie, lets just see what happens when the season starts,

aye, i'll refrain from any more of that kind of talk before i get into trouble with the good d3 folk who come here.

after all, it was just a throwaway line that i knew was going to attract attention!!

Now now stewie, lets not get ahead of ourselves!! Im tipping a very even competition in D3 this year...

But i hope your right and after that game we will be 9-0......(in an ideal world)

cuz uve rocked up to training havent ya big fella

Due to work and cricket commitments I have been unable to attend training - can't leave work early to make training 4 nights a week. Next week I will be at both sessions. As it is only December, at the present time cricket is taking priority.

Officially, are SMS the Saints or the Griffins? Either way their is a mascot clash this year, although spelling is different from the Monash Gryphons?

I'm seeing a couple of jumper clashes as well!!
I've seen at AFL level, the Essendon v Melbourne colours throw up a nice test for everyone playing and spectating.. we'll have the same colours involved with Bentleigh v Elsternwick.
The red, blue and white jumper of StFX also looks like it'll make a colour clash with at least one or both of these sides, especially when StFX are the home side, meaning white (shorts) becomes part of the Bentleigh and Elsternwick colours.
Might just have to pay extra close attention to who's wearing home/away shorts this year if you're good enough.
