I stand corrected!

You gotta admit, I'm not often wrong, but when I am its a doozy.

dont beat yourself up over it tiger!

It is the same name! But you should know that Smith at least is a pretty common name!!!!

I'm pretty sure THAT Nick Smith who plays for Balwyn is the one who used to play for Melbourne?!!? I could be wrong tho?!?!?

The Nick Smith at balwyn is not the former OW or Centrals Nick Smith boys! ;)

He is back in melbourne tho after a stint in wagga wagga coaching and playing up there but is now playing coach of Mernda in the NFL for 2009. I will pass on the kind words to him tho. He's a lot older now than he was back then. Just hanging in there and trying to get a kick at almost 37! (so im told ;))

thanks for clearing my query, berzerk. as you said, smith is such a common name & id reckon there would be a few nick smiths running around also!!

how did the clubs who had practice matches fair today?? at 33 degrees, water wouldve been flowing on all fronts!! winners?? losers?? injuries to speak of??

we have our first for 2009 tomorrow against forest hill & im sure the lads will welcome the 26 degrees forecasted!!

i remembered our third game by the way; it was originally scheduled against black rock at black rock so i wonder what happened there...

New player to melbourne here. Was looking for a D3 club or similar around the Glen Iris area, any ideas?. SMS need not reply, (Ego City) thanks but no thanks.

Monash is down the end of Burke Road in Caulfield and Hawthorn are on Rathmines Road in Hawthorn obviously....they're probably the closest 2 clubs in D3.

Didn't they get down on their hands and knees and give thanks to the big man upstairs that you had chosen them, above all other clubs!?!?

Looking forward to following your progress this year. Let us know where you end up superstar...

Lamb Flaps if you have any "genuine" concerns with what is happening down at SMS feel free to give me a call and we can discuss them. However judging by your above post I am presuming you havent stepped within a100 yards of Ferndale park in your life.

Unfortunately boys, perception is reality....just ask the Hawks....

So which clubs had games over the weekend?? Would be good to hear how things went as well as how strong the teams you put on the park were..

Bentleigh made the trip to Phillip Island and took on Forest Hill yesterday.
Didn't see the U19s game in the morning but heard they won by about 10 goals after a slow start.
The 2s looked stronger, smarter and more skillful than any reserve side that Bentleigh has ever put on the park, winning the game by about 50 points. Accurate kicking would've made it a much bigger win.
The 1s played out a low scoring game as neither side managed to use the wind to their advantage and up to 3/4 time the scoring end had been against the wind. Bentleigh was down by 3-4 goals going into the last and managed to get in front by a point with scores then level for much of the last 5 mins. Forest Hill scored a soccer goal with 30sec to play and won the game.
A very solid hitout for the boys with new recruits and youth on show, signaling they are ready for a big 2009 with Bentleigh.
There were 55 listed players who did not play yesterday for various reasons that have trained more than twice this pre-season. Some sort of numbers!!
We now look forward to this Saturday's game vs Heatherton.

Trained twice???? I hope that was a mis-print....

No.. "trained more than twice" simply meaning they are not just guys who have rocked up once and will probably not be seen again.
The list is just trying to say they are guys who will actually play and the fact is most have probably trained at least 10-15 times.
There were many top players unavailable due to cricket grand finals, cricket trips and resting injuries before the real stuff starts.

so i could have some difficulty breaking into the "super strong" 2s lineup this coming weekend against heatherton, drybones... id better make an impression on ashenden at training this week then!! ;)

It would appear that you are either getting a bit carried away in March or prone to over exageration based on the quote "The 2s looked stronger, smarter and more skillful than any reserve side that Bentleigh has ever put on the park". Surely over Bentleighs 40 or 50 years they have had better sides & maybe even won reserves premierships, so maybe your call was a tad premature?

As for 55 listed players (trained twice).....quantity does not gaurantee success

While down at mixed netball last week, spoke to my contacts, and from what they told me, a mate of Al Dwyer (Now at SMS) and DLS senior B&F winner has aced an interview with the Gryphons committee regarding a job in the bar at the club paying $1000/hr on Staurday evenings from 5-6pm after home games.

He is now also considering playing at Monash so he doesn't need to rush from DLS's game to get there in time for work

Sorry mate, yeah should've said it was a much better display than what I've seen over the past few years. Only being young I'm just going on the standard of players we've had over the past few seasons and it was much better than that.
As for those players who were missing and have trained AT LEAST twice.. it just means we will be far from the state we were in last year after a couple of games when the 2s were struggling to fill the interchange spots (due to injuries). Also a bunch of those players should be looking to slot into the 1s so I was saying we were not quite at full strength yesterday.
Wow it's no wonder no one else has done a wrap of their team's efforts on the weekend (if there was any).. all that happens is you get attacked for pointing out a few things.

Tiger_tuff, the key word in all this was "looked".....they must have had some real dumb, fat, uncoordinated looking players in their time....

Do they need anybody else?? I quit my day job if thats the case. Where do people come up with this sort of utter fabricated dog sh*t!! But having said that I am still very interested thank you.

I have been a senior player at Bentleigh for the past 5 or so years spending a majority of my time in the 2's copping 100 point beltings frequently. So it was good to see a great cohesion with the team yesterday which has come from a successful pre-season. But realistically, its a practice match against a team from a different league who may well be absolutely shizen, so its way to early to be getting excited.

How have other clubs faired in practice matches so far? Are there any D3 teams taking on other D3 teams?

I think there may be more jobs available in the bar, the gryphons committee are looking for people with the type of charisma it takes to win an A Section clubs B&F in the past 3-4 years. If this is you, you should forward your resume and apply for a bar or canteen job, I'm pretty sure you'll get it

drybones, its great you said our 2s yesterday looked "stronger, smarter & more skilful" in your summation of the game. as ive been a permanent 2s player since june 2003, these are 3 areas weve sadly lacked in. on this, we could possibly be in for a season "out of the box" but of course as we all know, its only practice match form!!

guess we'll have to wait & see if were in the same form come april 18 when we take on st johns at arthur street for full points...

Grand Finalists This Decade in D3 - No team has won D3 twice since 2000, and only Williamstown CYMS & Bentleigh have made 2 Grand Finals.

How many seasons has Bentleigh been in D3? Williamstown are 2 GF appearances from 2 attempts.

Will there be a new premier this year or will the trend break?
