Saw that game with a few mates of Fri. Pretty close . Both sides are quality. Watched Saints and Monash on Sat. Have lots of work to do if either to challenge Fridays teams. Question on Sths depth though. Their Twos were no match for Ewick on hangover day!

Let's see how OW handle the confines of McAllister Oval on Sat!

Still, will go with the bloods for the Sept glory!!

Was at the Swinnie v OW game on Saturday. Am surprised to hear from an earlier post that Swinnie didn't show much in their game against Bentleigh because if they had one thing going for them it was they tried their heart out at every contest. It ended up being a cracker of a game with quite a few lead changes throughout the day. OW up at qtr time by three goals, Swinnie up by a goal at half-time, scores level at 3 qtr time and OW just getting over the line after kicking the last three goals of the game. Murchie didn't play for Swinnie, Higgins did however and kicked about four. Will be surprised if they don't provide an upset or two at their ground.

Agreed Warrior, I would think that Swinburne have one of the biggest home ground advantages in this grade, from results they would seem to be a 7-8 goal better team at home. Any win at Swinburne is a good one.

Heard last year in games btwn OW and WB, oral was put on the result btwn the OW trainer and some of the WB trainers. Is there more at stake than 4 points this week for the WB boys?

Would like to know opinions on who would be premiership favs at the moment. I know it was discussed a while ago but now after 4 rounds or is fav?

1/2 Sth Melbourne/Bentleigh
3 Westbourne
4 Elsternwick
5 West Bruns
6/7/8 Swinburne/Monash/Kew
9/10 St Mary's/UHS

My predictions;

1- Sth Melb
2- West Bruns
3- Bent
4- Elsternwick
5- Westbourne
6- Swinburne
7- Monash
8- St Mary's
9- Kew
10- UHS

This forum has entertained me no end this morning, thanks to everyone for their posts. I now feel compelled to add my two cents…..

Westbourne are massively over rated, they will not play finals this year. I think their premiership; promotion to play finals has gone straight to their heads. In 06 Westbourne has not beaten anyone. Their current ladder position in artificial and the teams with a genuine chance this year are merely propping them up there while they oil the rungs for Westbourne’s imminent slide to the middle of the pack.

This forum has also revealed that those associated with Westbourne need to have a good hard look at themselves and how they represent their club. They have been slinging an abundance of mud at other clubs for “talking themselves up” and “making excuses” but the only evidence of that is from the West itself. Examples:

Talking themselves up:

“The Warriors are FLYING at the moment.”

“Carry Westbourne up the amo divisions”

Making excuses:

Well their lost to Eslternwick, we heard it all; the umpires were no good, the ground was sh*t and they were missing players (I heard Eslternwick were without their captain and best on ground player in the GF in 05).

Their narrow survival against Swinburne (saved by 3 late goals), the excuse here was that Swinburne has a massive home ground advantage. This apparent home ground advantage didn’t seem to worry Bentleigh when they accounted for a Swinburne team including, arguable the best FF in D3, Murhie by a measly 10 goals the week before.

But anyway, banter on boys I’m sure your entertaining many as they shake their heads and laugh.

On to the real stuff:

It will be an interesting battle for the top two positions, which should be fought out between Souths, West Bruns and Bentleigh. Eslternwick has probably showed a bit in their losses to South and Wets Bruns to suggest they will be there and there abouts. Final four:

  • West Bruns
  • Souths
  • Bentleigh
  • Eslternwick

Swinburne and Kew to make late charges as they gel better as teams. Will fight out 5 and 6.
Westbourne to grab 7th
The two unis and St Mary to fight it out for premiership favourites in D4 for 07.

This week:

Bentleigh by 30
Eslternwick by 40
Swinburne by 18
Wets Bruns by 50
Souths by 120

It would be hard not to say that the westbourne boys are flying at the moment with an average age about 22, would have to have the brightest future of all clubs in D3 aside, from Souths who I believe are quite a young side. Pull your head out Collinsr.

In 2001 OW "won" the wooden spoon in D4 - there's not much lower you can go in footy anywhere in the state than that. Combine that finish with clubrooms and change facilities that were poor at best and an average age in both seniors and reserves of mid to late twenties and the club was really struggling.

Less than four and a half seasons later OW have a seniors and reserve flag to their name, a finals finish in D3, multi-million dollar clubrooms and ground and U/10's, 11's, 12's and 19's. They were very close to having Club 18's this year but just fell short of the required numbers. The club is situated in the heart of one of the biggest growing communities in Melbourne with a lot of first and second home buyers and young families surrounding it. I have no doubt that OW are flying at the moment.

The four wins OW have had this year are against teams that probably won't play finals this year but you can only beat who you come up against.

You sound like a bitter man/woman/child??? collinsr. What club are you affiliated with to make you feel this way?

in 2005 OW beat the premiers st.johns twice, werribee, (who were also promoted), and west brunswick. in fact the only team in the competition the warriors didnt beat are south melbourne, who are a very good side, but still failed to make finals. this all happened in their first season in D3, what more can you ask of a promoted side collinsr?

it is true that elsternwick are the only 'top 4' team that the warriors have played, and that a few of their wins were not all that convincing, but i think the result this week may be a little closer than you think collinsr, and you may just end up eating your words.

take a good hard look at YOURSELF buddy, you are an idiot

Whats going on at the Monash Gryphons this year?

Their senior side is struggling big time yet their ressies are sitting nicely on top of the ladder.

Usually good reserves means good depth at the club, but if the seniors are struggling I am not sure what to make of it.

Can anyone enlighten me on this?

As far as my moderate knowledge extends, I believe this topic has been brought up in the past.
Monash have a history of running quite a good team out earlier on a Saturday at the sacrifice of the later game - finishing positions in 2005 are a decent yardstick.

No idea why you would want a D3 reserves premiership if it means the seniors barely avoid relegation!

Any word if:
a. This rumour is/was true; and
b. If payment was made?

OW couldn't possibly be rated a chance if this sort of wager was known throughout WB

The rumour is genuine although payment is still owing from games last year and now this year. I believe the outstanding debt is three...

It seems collinsnr has hit a raw nerve with the OW faithful with his opinion on their beloved team, which surely he is entitled to and to date this season seem well founded after their loss to another contender on the weekend.

I have no doubt the club has come a very long way and the future seems very rosy both with leaps and bounds made on and off the field however he was refering to the now and his kiss of death appears to be on the money... Time will tell

Talk is UHS have 3-4 good players set to comeback in over the next couple of weeks, and are hoping to shape the 4 in the 2nd half of the year with some upsets.

Some of their poor early season form has been rumoured to stem from Tony Boyce and Coach Taylor not seeing eye to eye on everything

I'd be concerned if my team was coached by a man who saw eye to eye with Boyce on anything.

Re: Dimmatina,
I believe his ban was specifically on running for the AFL and not a ban on him as a player. The penalty appears to have been aimed at the club and not the individual - although I am not sure this is the most just outcome.

Hi guys never posted on this thread before and I dont know much about the Ammo's. But could somebody tell me what division Theiry are in. Or even better is there somebody on ths thread that knows a bit about them?

Cheers Moxy

They obviously miss Adrian "Diesel" Flowerday!
Gone for the season with a knee.Great footballer, demolished Rupertswood a couple of seasons ago.

yeah flowerday is a massive loss, i was at the Monash v OW game last year and flowerday won the game off his own boot, he kicked a couple of awesome goals from 50+ out.

Moxy,

Therry are in D1. There is a thread on the ins and outs of D1.
They are 3-3, after being 3-0. Therry came down from C Grade last year.
Go to vafa website, then clubs, and you should be able to find their website to gain info on history of club.:)

In response to a: Word on the street is that it is an ongoing agreement between the two parties since the start of the '05 season and it appears as though the rumour is true taking into account the weekend's result.

In response to b: Sounds like at least one of the WB players is going to receive payment...again.

Thank you for this information.
Did you catch the WB v OW game on the weekend? I hear the old grey mare, R Benjamin, is in stellar form, and he actually IS what he used to be...

Well he is one of the modern day greats of the West. Up with the likes of Adam Cannane, Tommie Smith and John Carlos.

Has the resurgence of Bentleigh this year as a real threat on the field been attributed to a fit and motivated Anthony Stewart???
