Round 1 Tips

North Brunswick vs Monash - North Brunswick by 1 goal
South Mornington vs Manningham - South Mornington always very good at home in the first half of the season - maybe SM in a very close one.
Chadstone vs Mt Lilydale - Mt Lilydale by 12 goals.
Point Cook vs Richmond Central - Richmond Centrals are a very good side - without knowing much about PC, I'll stick with Centrals who should be one of the contenders.
Eley Park vs Swinburne Uni - Swinburne were a solid team last season - imagine they will be at least middle tier again and shold account for the sharks by a few goals.

Game 1WinUnder 39.5Over 39.5
North Brunswick $ 4.50 $ 5.00 $ 45.00
Monash Gryphons $ 1.20 $ 2.20 $ 2.60

Game 2WinUnder 39.5Over 39.5
South Mornington $ 1.40 $ 2.40 $ 3.40
Manningham $ 2.80 $ 3.50 $ 14.00

Game 3WinUnder 39.5Over 39.5
Chadstone $ 7.00 $ 9.00 $ 31.50
Mt Lilydale $ 1.10 $ 2.40 $ 2.00

Game 4WinUnder 39.5Over 39.5
Point Cook $ 1.80 $ 3.20 $ 4.10
Richmond Central $ 1.90 $ 2.90 $ 5.50

Game 5WinUnder 39.5Over 39.5
Eley Park $ 3.00 $ 4.50 $ 9.00
Swinburne Uni $ 1.33 $ 2.40 $ 3.00

Tips:
Monash 10 goals in an intimidating start for the rest of the competition
South Mornington 36 points at home
Mt Lilydale 84 points - Chadstone will improve this year, but not enough yet
Point Cook 24 points. Will break the game open early with run and keep that distance all day
Swinburne Uni 41 points. My mail confirms Quasi suggestion. The razorbacks have picked a few likely country kids up and will be pushing to make the finals.

Reserves:
Monash 18 points. The drop in grade will help the Monash boys get over the line against a good 2's side from 09
South Mornington - Younger quicker team on a dry ground to beat the slower harder Cobras by 12 goals
Mt Lilydale - 40 points - Depth will be the biggest problem for Chadstone
Richmond Central - More depth at this stage 24 points
Eley Park - Swinburnes 2's don't appear to have too many 1's borderline players running around at this stage. Sharks by 15

Seem like pretty fair odds.....So I'd take Mt.Lilydale over 39.5 followed by Point Cook over 39.5 into Swinburne over 39.5...$2-$4.10-$3-with a $100 outlay. Where do I wire the money and more importantly how do I pick up my winnings?????

I can't remember a first round when there hasn't been a surprise score... Which game will it be?

Game 1
WinUnder 39.5Over 39.5
North Brunswick $ 4.50 $ 5.00 $ 45.00
Monash Gryphons $ 1.20 $ 2.20 $ 2.60
The odds are just bollocks. NB will be a good team this year, just no idea if they will be VERY good. MG to win, but no way would you back them at these odds.

Game 2WinUnder 39.5Over 39.5
South Mornington $ 1.40 $ 2.40 $ 3.40
Manningham $ 2.80 $ 3.50 $ 14.00
I'd be amazed if it wasn't a close game. SM are under the odds for sure. Cobras have gone down there in the last 2 years with inferior teams & pushed them at Citation. Cobras.

Game 3WinUnder 39.5Over 39.5
Chadstone $ 7.00 $ 9.00 $ 31.50
Mt Lilydale $ 1.10 $ 2.40 $ 2.00
The Chad are getting some recruits pushed through on the clearances page, but still MTL for mine. Double your money on the +39.5.

Game 4WinUnder 39.5Over 39.5
Point Cook $ 1.80 $ 3.20 $ 4.10
Richmond Central $ 1.90 $ 2.90 $ 5.50
Tough selection night in both camps you'd imagine with the numbers these two teams have. Toss of the coin. RC to uphold the honour of the D4 traditionalists & take the chocolates.

Game 5WinUnder 39.5Over 39.5
Eley Park $ 3.00 $ 4.50 $ 9.00
Swinburne Uni $ 1.33 $ 2.40 $ 3.00
Swinburne seem to have been very quiet, and then a few little spruiks recently. Swinburne to remind the rest of the competition that they are about.

Good luck fellas - one training session & its on!!

Big out for Swinburne this weekend with their Captain expected to miss due to the impending birth of his daughter?

Could help Eley Park a bit.

Congratulations to the swinburne captain on the early arrival of his healthy girl 'Rosemary Jane'. i'm sure the razors will welcome the newest razorbabe. Word is he may sneak down and pull on the boots. expect big things if he does

Round 1 Tips

North Brunswick vs Monash - 10 goals at least, tough initiation into coaching for ozzy (who he leaves out Thurs night)
South Mornington vs Manningham - 10 points
Chadstone vs Mt Lilydale - 50 points
Point Cook vs Richmond Central - 50 points - surprise result of the round
Eley Park vs Swinburne Uni - 20 points

North Brunswick vs Monash - wont pick against them just yet
South Mornington vs Manningham - just (how ever good to see there old captain from 08 running around getting a kick for richmond)
Chadstone vs Mt Lilydale - rhodes back and a couple of newbies going to be a good side
Point Cook vs Richmond Central - old scotch 4ths to help get the chocolates for the tiger snakes
Eley Park vs Swinburne Uni - with yamen roving russel robbison up at shep i was going to go with the sharks but they may need more than viola to get up so razorbacks for me

I don't know the blokes apart from on the training track - and the one practice match that I've been at. I've got better things to do than dredge up any history on them. If they turn out to be detrimental to the club then I guess I'll think back to your post & acknowledge their issues then.

Are you involved on a committee Bromberg? If you are then you'd understand & acknowledge the hard work that volunteers put into trying to improve their clubs. 'Progressive' is about improvement.

I don't really care if you think I've got no idea. I just try to help my club.
I am only 24 and still playing in the Eastern League so,i have never been on a commitee but im sure i will be when my time as a player is up so i can stay involved in the game that i love.I have had one indirect involvement in your club and that experience would definately make me question all the cliches and crap you profess to be about at the cobras. But the season starts this week and im sure thats what people people want to read about so i will let it go until there is not so much to talk about

All away for me so I'm a little nervous not picking one home team.

North Brunswick vs Monash - 4 points. Gryphs always talking themselves up this time of year but have yet to bear any fruit. They should be strong winning 6 games in D3, so they will win... just.
South Mornington vs Manningham - 10 points. Cobras for me but I think the road trip to SM will be one of the tougher games for the year. I pick this as match of the round.
Chadstone vs Mt Lilydale - 50 points. I hope Chadstone can do a little better this year but can't imagine them getting close in this game.
Point Cook vs Richmond Central - 20 points. If Richmond play any of the Old Scotch guys look out D4.
Eley Park vs Swinburne Uni - 30 points. Surely Swinny haven't fallen so low as to lose this match.

On Swinburne did they end up getting new facilities? I remember there was a rumour awhile back this was happening.

Yes... we don't have to get changed in the containers this season! Will be interesting to see inside.

I heard the man is floating on cloud 9. Congratulations Captain!

Lets hope that Rosemary Jane is as tallented as her second cousin Misty (see link). Lets also hope that she has better looks than her dad and Misty.

Yes we have new facilities and they look great. Unfortunatley they will be the only thing we will allow you to enjoy when playing us at home, except a nice cold beer after the game of coarse. :p;):D

Just to welcome Pt Cook into the fold, there will be a full set of whistleblowers running out on Saturday as well as a contingent of VAFA brass.

Make sure the guys parked up on the northern end keep the cans uncracked until after the game!

Hope both sides have a great one, Snakes to win by 11.

Thank you for the welcome Over The Post but lets wait and see about the 11 points:)

Too many people picking far too many away teams for my liking.

This is the VAFA, not the AFL.

Home ground advantage does mean something here.

Anyway, on to my tips:

Monash Gryphons over North Brunswick by 11 points - Tough first-up game for the Gryphs, but the class of Wells and Pocock up forward should get them over the line.

South Mornington over Manningham by 33 points - South Mornington hold one of the best home records in the division and unless the Rose brothers can fire this one is going to go to the home side.

Mt Lilydale over Chadstone by 47 points - Chaddie will be better this season, but with Varga, McKenzie and Co sure to be ready this should be an easy one for the visitors.

Point Cook over Richmond Central by 44 points - This is the home banker of the week. With sharpshooter Russell Mark sure to be lurking around the home rooms, the VAFA's newest senior club can make a winning start.

Eley Park over Swinburne by 12 points - Morrison and Prior are always tough to match up on for the Students, but Quinn and Viola can get the home side over the line.

South Mornington over Manningham by 33 points - South Mornington hold one of the best home records in the division and unless the Rose brothers can fire this one is going to go to the home side. I think it will closer than 33p, a tough one to pick, the post game report will be interesting.

Mt Lilydale over Chadstone by 47 points - Chaddie will be better this season, but with Varga, McKenzie and Co sure to be ready this should be an easy one for the visitors. Varga & the Mckenzie bros are playing in the two's, expecting Chadstone to have improved with their recruits.

A bit like the SM & Manny game.

Eley Park over Swinburne by 12 points - Morrison and Prior are always tough to match up on for the Students, but Quinn and Viola can get the home side over the line.[/ Which Viola are you referring to, isn't David out for a while??

One more sleep! It's MILES better than XMAS :)

PC... any word on JG?

Hi bigwaz, unfortunately JG unable to get a leave pass from Big Kev, stuck in Brissie.

Trying for our No 1 male ticket holder

The whole club is pumped just waiting for tomorrow, looking forward to a great game.

For the love of the captains baby! Swinny to take this one out by 4goals. Captain to kick 4 before celebrating by pouring a bottle of champange on his own bare breasts.

Some reading on the ground sizes in Div 4. Don't know if I got all the dimensions right, but the link to the maps I used is below:

Grounds by length

Allard Park 159 x 119m
Kevin Bartlett 156 x 115m
Mt Lilydale 155 x 123m
Koonung 155 x 117m
Citation 148 x 122m
Dunnings Road 144 x 110m (And the windiest ground in the VAFA by the look of the map on google)
East Caulfield 142 x 102m
Jordan Reserve 139 x 118m
Elgar Park 2 138 x 103m (The other ground is 131 x 112m)
St James Park 137 x 101m
Whithorse Reserve 132 x 105m

For reference, La Trobe Uni plays on 166 x 150m
