Even at his best was he worth $800k a season?

Dangerfield, Ablett, Selwood, Pendlebury are midfielders worth that money. Never thought Thomas was as valuable as any of those.

Then when his injury record is considered it's madness that Carlton sanctioned that contract.

He was the best player in the comp for a 6-8 week period (2011???) but apart from that his output has not quite been in the elite category.

He should not embellish the potential free kick by waving his arms around attempting to exaggerate, the tackle of McIntosh

instead, he should focus on hitting the ground in a safe fashion rather than attempting to sway the officials decision
What a load of wank.

On topic, he's had a pretty disappointing career, largely because he has huge ability but struggles to remain fit.

He had no injury troubles until he did his ankle in late 2012 and went surfing instead of getting an operation and without a preseason never really recovered in 2013. Apart from that and his latest self inflicted injury caused by his own stupidity, hes been very durable and consistent, with 16 games in his debut season his lowest season game count apart from 2013.

He's clearly played a significant number of games under duress IMO.

I don't subscribe to the theory that you're considered fit if you cross the line.

Not prior to his ankle injury. No doubt the clubs disappointment with his attitude to recovery from that is part of the reason hes at Carlton. He didnt like being admonished. He got steadily better at Carlton during season 2014 and thats why they are rightfully shattered right now, because he was ready to return to his best after a full preseason. What a shame.

Highlights intellectual superiority by asking a question without a question mark.

yes grammar is indeed what is key for the discussion

not the fact young dale had his eyes square on the officia, elaborately throwing his arms in such a manner it would make the tackle look more outside the laws of the game than what it in fact was

rather than bracing for impact with Terra firma which would have lessened the chance of serious injury

Probably because he was focussed on winning the game of football rather than his own wellbeing...what a dog

not by winning a hard ball

not by doing a 1 per center

not by getting read to hit the ground, jump at and give a secound effort

but by trying to win a free kick in a suss way

i got nothing against him but he should protect himself. It would have been a better game if he had remained injury free

The "flailing his arms around playing for a free" is quite an exaggeration. He was gesturing the fact he was being tackled and didn't have the ball. He shouldn't haven't needed to position himself to protect the fall because he shouldn't have been tackled in the first place.

Very unfortunate, gotta feel for Daisy.

not a very practical worldview for life

nor a very safe one for playing a contact sport

Hopefully he has a speedy and full recovery - Carlton simply dont have anyone to cover the loss of any talented players.

Accept that certain player is yet to show his talent

I don't think he's on that much but yes, at his best he's definitely worth that much and would have been furious we didn't match it.

Only a matter of time before I start reading the tackle was a reportable offence.

Fast becoming one of the all time Free Agency disasters.

Extremely expensive and has been poor/injured for his entire time at Carlton.

Gone from literally a hero to zero, no one is going to care when he retires which is such a sad and quick decline from the superstar he once was.
