This question has possibly been asked but what changed between 7p.m. Monday and Tuesday afternoon? What was added to the Houston deal to suddenly make it more appetizing to our brains trust? Please don't tell me Gold Coast were playing hard ball over clearing Rory Atkins.

The reports were that we were originally asking for two first round picks for Dan Houston. I see the pick 13 in the deal but not much else. Richards has played 9 games and no one else wanted Rory Atkins so they don't come as outstanding 'ins'. The picks #29, #36 and #50 may increase our hand in this year's draft but they are hardly a first round pick to go with the #13, which could finish even lower by the time trading is done.

If we pick up consistent AFL performers with the Draft picks received the trade will be viewed as passable but if the majority of these guys are spuds, which could happen, it will be an abject failure. The Draft is a lottery and some very good performers can be picked up between #13 and #50 but there have been some duds in that range as well.

Someone at Alberton must be rapt in the depth in this year's Draft. I guess only time will tell and in that time those responsible will have ****ed off and left someone else to carry the can if things do not work out. TBH I do not know what to feel about this 'mega trade' and it will probably be 3-4 years before any of us can make a factual assessment.

I have not included Jack Lukosious in this as we gave up a future first for him and he was originally drafted as the #2 pick in 2018 and can kick goals which fills a need. Let's hope he turns out better than the last top two Draft Pick forward also called Jack that we traded in.

In all of this the high cost items have been a dual All Australian who has been our most consistent defender over the past 4-5 seasons and the loss of next year's first round pick. I hope the incoming players are worth the price.

FOOTNOTE: the media cannot get the deal right. In this morning's press the Murdochites have the no36 pick with Collingwood whereas the ABC has the pick #36 traded to Port . In fact Jon Ralph has the 36 pick with both Collingwood and with Port. The Murdochites have obvious excluded the on trade from Collingwood to Port.

You know, at the end of the day, players come and go all the time and a loss yes but we will cover for Houston.

What really pisses me off so much is not sticking to our guns and get his true value or he stays.

Collingwood will be a direct opponent next year fighting for a finals spot, so Port make them stronger. To rub salt into the wound Collingwood ****ed us over with Perryman too.

My other huge gripe is how the deal was suddenly off after all the social media outrage, then the next day. **** you Port fans, we don't care what you think.

This is our club now, just like another finals exit with no explanation to members, keeping Hinkley.

This club doesn't care what we think and is the total opposite of the Port I grew up with.

We are just the second franchise in SA and the poor cousin at that. This club reeks of mediocrity and selfish egotistical people that know sweet **** all about football and success.

Tom morris said GC threatened to trade pick 13 separately, which spooked us

Does this all stem back to the China days when Koch carried on about their red jumper? GC seem happy to lie down and take it when trading to other clubs (Bowes to Geelong, for example) but will play hard ball with us?

Yes, but it wasn't up to us to get the #13 out of Gold Coast, that was up to Collingwood. At least that is the way it should have worked but it would not surprise me if we did the hard yards.

I am actually surprised the Lukosius part of the deal went as smoothly as it did. I expected Gold Coast to play hard ball.

What exactly are we supposed to get out of this relationship with Connors? What has Connors and Cripps being tight done for us?

We've overpaid for fringe players 2 years in a row. We've traded out 2 firsts and one of our best players for peanuts. Yet again Port put being the Care Bears ahead of actually achieving anything.

Is the club aware of how pissed off the supporters are with this trade? Do they care?
What has Connors and Cripps being tight done for us?

For us? Nothing.

For Cripps, a better relationship with a management team and a star player to Collingwood in which he can use as leverage when he inevitably end up there.

It's all swings and roundabouts for the AFL

Having slept on it - awful.

The clear path forward was offering a F2 instead of the F1 as our final offer and waiting until today. Gold Coast would agreed on deadline day.

Still a great deal for Collingwood and not great for us, but it'd have been palatable as we'd have gained at least 1 first round pick for Houston, which we somehow failed to do.

Logan Evans getting even better next year will go some way to cover Houston. Time to also back in Sinn and see if Williams can regain his class from 2023.

Whether we can salvage anything from the Houston trade will ultimately be determined by who we get at pick 29, and by how good Lukosius and Richards can be.

Pick 13 will be judged against whoever is taken as the F1R we gave GC.
Don't forget Atkins.

Eagerly awaiting CD's triumphal celebratory media speech, trumpeting how we "aced" the biggest mega deal in AFL history.
With the cherry on top being Atkins, who can propel us to a flag.
Geez. How good are we here at Port. Youse supporters are lucky to have us running such a tight, ruthless ship.
Now shut up, and and fork over your money!

It's not hyperbole to say that almost every aspect of the club needs a do over.

There's barely one facet now where I look and think "yeah that's the PAFC I'm proud to call my club"

This bend over at the trade table, anticipated by us "white noise bastards" who know nothing apparently, is just another mind bogglingly weak display.

The only way things begin to correct, the only way we can hope to get our club back, is to seriously push for a majority member elect board in the future, we need to start at a solid foundation. We must ask this question as a priority at the AGM, and not allow Koch to slither out of it.

This plus a F1 for Luko and 29 plus pick upgrades for Ratkins Salary dump, is probably a little better than I had anticipated.

The thing that kills me about this club is this time next year we'll be celebrating how well we've done with our drafting because whoever we draft at pick 13 (or 19 and 21 ffs) did better in their first season than a few top 10 picks.

We consistently start the race by shooting ourselves in the foot and then proclaim "oh we did pretty well considering we got shot" WE DO THIS TO OURSELVES.

We did pretty well in 2023 despite having little ruck or key position quality.

We've done pretty well to get Esava Ratugolea considering Geelong were mean.

Ken's done pretty well despite the supporter base booing him after reading the writing on the walls for the 5th straight year.

We've done pretty well in 2024 despite Davies saying we don't have the list and the SANFL being an inferior reserves competition.

We've done pretty well to scrape over the line against 7th in a final despite having a younger team on the day.

We've done pretty well to get back into this years super draft™ considering we surprisingly had no draft capital at the bit where everyone wants draft capital.

We've done pretty well to squeeze some extra value out of Dan Houston despite his manager putting pressure on us and him wanting to be traded to one of two clubs whilst heavily under contract.
So true. We create our own problems over & over again.
