I was too. Craig Blame was sickening.

I remember talking to Tim when he was Bar Manager at the Port Club and the angst went back to the 1984 grand final when Balme hit Tim before the first bounce.

They have just given Joe Berry the no5 guernsey which was worn by Dan Houston. It was also worn by Tim Evans.

I think you go on to answer your own question.

Why force him to stay & keep him? I mean, we have a consensus here that we aint winning anything under Hinkley! Half the posters here have either walked away from the club, or havent renewed membership.

Letting him go, and bringing in a bunch of fresh draft picks in a good draft is looking to the future, and not to the "now" under Hinkley.

I am all for it.
Yeh I've come around to thinking it could work in our favour 12 months down the track. Hopefully we have all been liberated by then.

The 2025 draft is weak/compromised we were better off trading him now argument is very weak imo

Next year Collingwood would've 2025,2026 and 2027 first rounders available. The club spends resources on watching these kids from 16 yo's. The list of players that weren't traded when they wanted then were traded for less the next year is shorter than the list of players that were traded for the same if not more

2027 draft will be compromised due to the Tassie draft concessions.

The team are clearly building a squad who should be at their physical peak from 2026 through 2030.

Had Port kept Houston, no club would be trading multiple first rounders for a half back flanker who turns 29 in their first season with the new club. Despite the relatively poor return Port got for him in the end, I highly doubt they would have gotten anything better in 12 months time.

This isn't a case of a young player requesting a trade whose peak years are ahead of him. His currency was never going to be higher than this off season.

Re-watching the semi final against hawthorn a couple nights ago and seeing the likes of Bergman, Burgoyne, Evans, Jones & Sinn all perform really strongly in the backlines with no Houston, Farrell or Burton makes me confident we will be okay without Dan.

I thought Evans & Burgoyne had a really good understanding of where each other was & combined brilliantly.

Posters on here love to talk about how names like Farrell and Evans are going to 'replace' Houston like dual reigning All-Australian half backs just grow on trees.

And even if they somehow do, that still doesn't actually 'replace' Houston, because before we would have Houston and his replacement, and now we'll just have his replacement. The player who's actually 'replacing' Houston isn't our best half back, it's some Sinn/Burton/Williams type who wouldn't be getting a game if Houston was still here.

By the time Hinkley is gone and we become a serious football club again (if that even happens), Houston won't be a dual reigning AA. That's the better cope I think.

I guess the clubs theory is how big a difference is playing someone like Sinn or Burton in Houston’s position and someone like berry in mcentee or Evans position? And doing this with an eye to the future and continuously refreshing the younger part of our list without bottoming out. It’s a very hard job to stay at the middle to top of the ladder for an extended period. Would we be happy to do what the crows have done and head to the bottom for 7 years to build a list? I wouldn’t be…

Jase was clear BOG but i forgot how good Evans played In that game, he did some incredible things. Even late in the game where we were under siege clinging on by less than a goal and he did this spin out of congestion and cleared out of defence that just looked like pure class.

I thought Allir and BZT were great that game too.

Such a shame the same backline completely shat the bed the following week though, some of the guys like BZT and Evans barely touched it in the prelim.

Didn’t look so good against Sydney the next week.
We’re definitely short a good key defender.

I thought that about Ratagolea and Gibbs.

People who think Houston is a 'w***er' for asking for a trade and nominating a club (i.e the thing that every player in the last decade who has asked for a trade has done, including every player who has been traded here) are smooth brains.

In fact, I’d say he kept it open for longer than any player I can remember. He only nominated Collingwood, when the alternative was north 🤮

He said any Victorian club. Turns out Collingwood is the only club in Victoria.

Thought experiment: Name one thing worse about the way Dan Houston conducted himself on his way out of his old club compared to the way Jason Horne-Francis did.

He was contracted! So was JHF
He nominated a club! So did JHF
The club he nominated didn't have sufficient picks to give us fair value! Neither did the club JHF nominated
He was petulant on his way out! Not half as petulant as JHF was.

There are way more clubs in Victoria for Dan to choose from, we have only one club here in Adelaide. Crows don’t count.

'Crows don't count' isn't a real argument and you know it. The Crows had much better picks than us though, so that's actually another great example of how JHF screwed North over.

Jason wanted to come to port so his conduct is immediately better!

The way he spoke to senior officials at the club whilst Cripps and co. were trying in good faith to negotiate a trade that would benefit all parties. I have not heard of JHF doing anything similar.

Also, Houston owes his career to Port - with all key recruiting and coaching personnel still the same as when he was recruited - in a way that JHF didn't owe his career to North. That can't be ignored IMO.

He wanted to leave Port. JHF wanted to return.

I only care about Port, so I'm allowed to dislike someone for leaving and like someone for coming.
