13 isn't worth much to them as their academy prospect will come around then, so moving the pick to next year makes sense, but still, yes it is strange that's the best value they've been able to get for it.
GC said no to this, the Pies have to sweeten the pot where thay still have pick 36 on their table

I put this concept to someone at Port yesterday, and they snapped saying that the value of their future 1st is significantly less than a pick in the teens in this draft.

They believe that the quality of this draft is much, much better than next year, which is why they're likely going to give up a future 1 to get this deal done in the next week.

I personally don't agree with it, but that's the rationale of thinking down there.
Did you ask why we traded out our first rounder of this so called super draft for a SANFL defender and a ruckman who lasted one year?

How shambolic is our list management. Must be the worst in the league by some margin.

13, 23, Richards, and you'd have to hope there's a heck of a lot of change involved.
Of everything mentioned, including our F1R for Lukosius, the best I’m hoping for now is:

Houston for 13, 23 and Richards, with nothing else going back.

F1R for Lukosius and GC pick 29.

Soldo for St Kilda 2025 2R.

Leaves us with:
Pick 13, 23, 29, 39 and 59 in this draft and two second round picks in 2025.

We clear ten list spots (McCallum, Dixon, McKenzie, Houston, Soldo, Charleson, K. Marshall, Narkle, F. Evans, Boak).

Bring in Lukosius, Richards, 4 top-40 picks, Barrett, Burgoyne (rookie) and then two other rookies, which may include Francou and Montgomery if no-one is better.

I’d keep Scully.

Yuck.

Basically 13 and 23 for contracted AA elite gun.

Barrass and his cooked back is going to fetch 15 and a 2nd rounder

Rioli 6 and a 2nd rounder

Bolton 10, 18.

We’re getting shafted.

Massively.

Completely unacceptable from where I sit.

By the sounds of it our list management team are now glorified playstation guys pretending to care about what's best for the club.

So tired of our weakness, and then the gaslighting of every single thing this club does.

The guts of this trade simply has to be more than pick 13 that will become 15+ by draft time. That's nowhere near good enough compensation for Houston.

It's a real shame we're going to lose an absolute jet, and the best we'll get is a speculative pick 13. Far out. We're going to need to absolutely nail that pick, and pull another Butters out of our hat.

It's criminal how much Houston has been under rated in the thinking around this trade. We really should be walking away.

I doubt very much we are going to clear 10 list spots.

Bit harsh on Charleson, hasn't he only been here for one season?

I get next year is a weak draft

But they can trade next year's pick forward for up to 2 years if they wanted to. Instead of reaching for firsts and overpaying

(Log in to remove this ad.)

That can't as they have already offered up their first for next year as their main trade.
Maybe their 2nd for this year, pick 36 gets chucked into the washing machine (that goes around and round).
Id love to get that 36 back with Luko for our F1

It's interesting that they're so in love with this year's draft now and yet last year were happy to offload all of this year's picks for a bunch of role players to fill Kenny's holes.

Must be secretly happy that Houston asked for a trade because I can't see any other way we would've got back into this year's draft.

The whole concept of port allowing/not challenging Houston when he said I'll stay if a deal can't be done then not accepting a F1 from North Melbourne doesn't sit right with me. Kane cornes was right (eww) the whole AFL industry isn't ruthless enough
Early days.

I know this is probably living in fantasy land now, but here's my go at a mega trade to unlock Houston, Rioli, Soldo and Lukosius.

Richmond Get: Pick 2
Richmond Give: Daniel Rioli

Gold Coast Get: Daniel Rioli, Pick 27
Gold Coast Give: Pick 6, Jack Lukosius.

North Melbourne Get: Dan Houston, Port Adelaide Future 2nd
North Melbourne Give: Pick 2, Future 1st round

St Kilda Get: Ivan Soldo
St Kilda Give: Pick 27

Port Adelaide Get: Jack Lukosius, Pick 6, North Future 1st
Port Adelaide Give: Dan Houston, Future 2nd, Ivan Soldo
Its honestly not as ridiculous as some of the anti-Port trades floated in the media.

****ing gross.

Maybe if we love this year's draft so much we shouldn't have traded our first rounder in it for a backup ruck who hates the joint and the worst forward in the league. This club is a joke.
Yes but you see when we did that it didn't matter because this draft wasn't looking anywhere near as good as 2025.

The funniest thing about this btw is that everyone is angry with the result, knowing that we traded out pick 18.

Yet when we actually made the trade that pick could just as easily have been a top 10 pick. We got the best possible scenario in terms of the pick, got a full season out of Esava, and are still pissed off. That shows how absolutely godawful that trade was.

This is contradictory as we didn't hesitate to move our future first (this year's first) for depth players last year.

Football department is not aligned.
