Why would Port now trade one of their best players for significantly less than what they've already been offered?
Because that incompetent suitor has pulled out of negotiations/the market has shifted, Port need the picks to get other deals done, and Houston no longer wants to live in Radelaide.

Melbourne already offered up two first rounders, Port aren't now going to trade him for less than that.
11 one its own, or even with a sweetener added won't get it done.

Melbourne offered that when they were in the top8, I understand Adelaide is a bit behind the rest of the world, but I'd say the revised offer will be much less. Two first rounders from Brisbane maybe, not when one is 5 and likely to be 1-7 next year.

Wow - you must really need a flanker.

Tassie coming in - why wouldn’t you take 13 ( assuming you extracted it ) to the strongest draft in ages.

Unless you win a premiership next year - such a big price to pay to be an also-ran.
Pick 13 plays about an average of 100 games. It's not a guaranteed hit. Dan will get you 100 games 95% of the time but he is elite and perfect for our game plan.

Tassie is the great danger that everyone fears, but they will only take up one draft. We had successive drafts taken up by GC and GWS and nobody was affected. Any club with at least decent talent ID and development can wade the waters of being pushed back in a draft for some Tasmania picks.

West Coast finished bottom in 2010 and only got pick 4. They drafted Gaff, then Darling, Lycett and McGovern. They played a prelim the next year and won a flag years later.

After Port Adelaide’s comical 2011 season that saw them earn just pick 6 after 3 wins due to GWS’ entry, they took dual AA Chad Wingard and the next year took Wines on their way to the first of many preliminary final appearances in 2014.

There’s nothing to worry about re: Tassie

Laughable. If he had the same CV and was 23, sure, but he'll be 28 next year. Can't see anyone offering up what they'd expect to pay for Butters or more than you paid for 19 year old JHFF, for Dan. Good player, nice kid, but 11 on its own is a good deal.
Port are delusional about this 2 1st's for Houston. He's clearly not worth that. North would be crazy to accept that.

Don't understand why Port aren't just saying they won't trade him?! He's contracted and they missed out on Perryman & Cumming who may have been seen as replacements, if they genuinely believe they're in the premiership window this feels like a pretty straight forward "we're not trading you under any circumstances" conversation

That's probably why they can ask for so much - they either get a massive haul of picks/players or just keep him

Richards is worth a r3 at best given contract status. 13 and Richards (if you can even get 13 which will cost your future 1st) won't be enough for Port I don't think.
Imo, pick #13 & Richards would be fair for Houston.

However, can the Pies land pick #13...
