It's seems quite relevant following Darcy's comments on the 5th quarter recently, when he asked Ross Lyon is there any room for players to go out and have a few drinks after a win these days.

His answer seems appropriate, not just for the reasons he mentioned about the importance of recovery, nutrition etc. Perhaps there is also a need for the players to keep low key, so they are not put at risk in these kind of situations.

I personally think you should pursue charges for these type of incidents , as it sends a bad message if people get off scot free.

The worse thing is fair fighting etc has gone out the window and now you just get king hit by some hero from behind when your not looking for no reason because he is not brave enough to have a go face to face or they pull out a knife.

While we dont know the circumstances yet as to what happened i dont know why players frequent nightclubs so often. I have seen it first hand where AFL players are provoked and baited and abused by heroes who have had 1 to many cans of courage. They are much better off staying at home and having a few quiet drinks with fellow team mates and friends etc in the comfort of their own home etc away from this BS that occurs so often.

I always think this. And then I remind myself - footballers are stupid.

Firsthand account

Swan was in a heated verbally abusive and agitated stoush with a female after both spat drink on each other, when the "puncher" told swan to calm down (in no way was this in a provocative tone but actually a defusing manner), swan then told the puncher to "**** off" head butted him away and remarked "I know her!!"

Then he was promptly administered a knuckle sandwich to the kisser
