To be honest, in strangely put my vote in for Dangerfield. I don't know why.

As much as I love Fyfe, I couldn't vote for him as he didn't get a premiership medal.

Voting for Dustin Martin would be too obvious. Yeah 3 premiership medals and 3 Norm Smith medals in 2017, 2019 and 2020 is too obvious.

I voted Dangerfield for 2 reasons.

1. He played and won finals at both crows (2008-15) and cats (2016-2024).

2. Like the great Giant Baba in All Japan pro wrestling. The long drawn out path to the top or road to success is usually a memorable one. So Dangerfield getting that elusive medal in 2022 and possibly 2024 will always be looked backed fondly

Yep, Finals football (when it truly matters most, even though it only lasts for a month) is a different level to Home & Away footy.

Regardless of where people rank/rate/assess Martin, one thing is for sure - he truly excelled and thrived in Finals footy: 3 Gary Ayres awards, 3 Norm Smith medals to go with 3 Premierships, says it all.

His output in Home & Away footy was very good but there's other players who have better Home & Away records but what elevates Martin (in my opinion) is what he was able to achieve and deliver when it mattered most, in Finals football.

Home & Away footy may last the longest duration wise, but Finals footy whilst it lasts for a short time (only a month) is the most important period of the season.

Martin "burnt both ends of the candle"....that is he did well in Home & Away footy but also did well in Finals footy too.

So glad he played for Richmond.

2017: 108 - 60 (48 point win)
2019: 114 - 25 (89 point win)
2020: 81 - 50 (31 point win)
