Probably the most interesting watch of all players in 2025 IMO. Am very hopeful he does find his position and allowed to settle - whether that be the Lynch connector role in the short term and transitioning to midfield ideally medium term. I personally don't think he is fast or agile enough to play wing or half back flank but can get away with being the big bullocking midfield player like T Greene, Cripps or the Bont.

This time next year will be very important re (1) how did he perform in 2025. Was there a decent step change from what we saw in 2024. I would like to think so (and will be concerning if not) and (2) assuming he is projecting as elite, its the end of next season we should be locking him away contract wise. Certainly don't want him uncontracted late into 2026 with Eagles still likely near bottom of ladder and threats of PSD or a low value draft pick offered for him. Weagles are likely to be pretty bad again for at least the next couple of years (look bottom 3-4 certs to me and this could actually be for another 3-4 years as I just dont see the depth of young quality players and best older players like Yeo, Kelly, Cripps, Mc Govern retiring as already all 30-32) and we will be on the rise which hopefully helps with him wanting to stay. Freo list is MUCH better but already pretty stacked with mids (assuming Brayshaw stays) and good KPP. Also I imagine a pretty stretched salary cap relative to Weagles which we should be able to compete with $ wise

As a minimum get another 2 years extended taking him to end of 2028. Everything I have always seen and heard he seems like he loves being around the boys and club ('feels like rocking up to training with your best mates' etc)

So many young players with huge potential but yet to be fully proven at the elite level. Curtin probably the most extreme example of this

I think smart move by the club - ultimately probably Nicks call - to put Curtin under skipper Dawsons wing. Fast track potential to play midfield and by mentoring him with the number one leader/player at the club shows we are prioritising his development and hopefully Dan is 'feeling the love'.

Any public comments have always been so positive towards his teammates and club in general - and yes i understand the cynical side of words dont mean anything - but he also did NOT need to make them either. Cant imagine McAsey was ever genuinely praising the club like this.

Hopefully re-signs at some point in 2025 perhaps after a purple patch of form for the team and himself

quotes from article

“Moving into a bit of a different role and having a crack through the midfield has been really exciting, and I’m just loving coming in and getting to work every day,” Curtin said.

“I just feel much more comfortable than this time last year, my body is more adept to what is required and I’ve got greater confidence that it will be able to stand up to the workload better.

“I came back from Perth a couple of weeks early to get back into training with the boys, as the sessions at home by myself got quite tough, so it was nice to get the solid block with the rest of the squad before we started up - and I feel I’ve benefited from that in the first couple of weeks.”

I am so wanting to get excited about this kid, as he could be anything, but the nightmare of Fischer McAsey is still very raw.

That’s fair enough concern. IMO, The Fish never seemed right though from the start (esp looking back in hindsight). A miserable long face on draft night, a much worse than expected physical specimen (speed and agility), thrown in the deep end and struggled in 10 straight losses as his only appearances (surely not healthy for the psyche losing every time you ever play for a club), joining during the interrupted CV year, family issues back home and queries over homesickness from very early on.

And he never had Curtins upside, skill set or versatility. Or positive attitude about his teammates, club and even city of Adelaide.

I want to believe they are VERY different but, as always, time will tell.

I dont think you can say it was Nicks call at all . It may have been or it may have been circumstantial when his initial rent contract finished and driven by the Player Welfare Officer

I'm not sure Nicks is driving where players live

“I came back from Perth a couple of weeks early to get back into training with the boys,
Nicks would have been in the US at this time wouldnt he?

need more sleep

No, Nicks only went to US recently. This would have been about 6-8 weeks ago I would imagine.

Huh?

They aren't living together.

You are confused re living with him. I, nor the article, ever said this

Edit you’ve edited somehow as I am typing this,
Edit 2 - Dawson is housing Draper and Welsh though which may be a first in terms of SA boys not living at home with parents for a period of time (a mth or so from memory)

Dan is a seriously big guy and looks like he has built more power into his running and speed from a contest in this short clip. He really could be anything and is an absolute must keep for the long term

People think he’s slow , he’s actually quicker than Dawson and will be alot more powerful

Once he gets belief he could be anything

I love the way he seems to be driving himself to next level , good sign he’s got the confidence and drive to be elite

The boy is going to be a goodn

Some draftees have 2nd year blues , he might have got rid of that in his first year and ready to explode
If him and Rachele become our break-out players that lifts our ceiling immeasurably, given their natural talent

That’s without even taking our four additions into account

Rach is having a cracking pre-season, he’s giving himself every chance

Let’s also not forget Maxy, Worrell, Fog, Soligo and Izak still have room to grow, and Keane will be better with another pre-season

There is a lot of growth within this team
