Captaincy though surely would only be offered to a deserving candidate not as a bribe to re-sign.
Seems 7 put 2 unrelated matters together after McRae’s HS interview to generate a bigger headline

It might be more nuanced than that as the word bribe implies the club is offering the captainship on a silver platter.

An alternative view might be that the club has identified leadership potential in him and he himself might want the opportunity to develop himself and grow in that role.

Any negotiation involving people with potential and aspirations will include this conversation regardless of industry.

Darcy Moore is coming into his second year in the leadership group - clearly the club and playing group view him as a leader internally.

Once again, you are letting some bizarre personal view of Moore infect your assessment of his ability.

Discussion on SEN this morning also said that a captaincy offer should not be part of any re-signing push and suggests desperation.

I take what SEN says with a Grain of Salt

Why don't you be a bit clearer? Josh Jenkins said it. Josh Jenkins, SEN's latest ex-footballer turned hot take media persona.

Your weird fixation on Moore is getting creepy.

That’s absolutely correct that the captaincy should never be for sale or used as a bargaining chip.

However SEN have forgotten one basic thing….. it’s probably not true that Collingwood is doing that.

Definitely not true. No clubs doing that especially one with a new coach looking to establish their own brand. That type of commentary makes for good talkback because Pies fans jump in to defend club/ Moore and nuffie neutrals stir the pot. Anyone with half a brain should realise it’s a comment to fill 20 minutes of airtime between interviews.

Lets say it is Moore vs Grundy for the captaincy next year.

Lets say both are considered great on and off field leaders.
Both speak well in public and say all the right things
Both are equally respected by all the players.

How do we separate the 2?

Maybe it come down to the bloke who didnt hold the club over a barrow when it comes of a contract.

Wouldn't that rule out both if that's the criterion?

Yes it would.

Maybe our next captain should be somebody who is a good loyal team man and somebody who is just grateful to be on a list.

So I’d go for Jack Madgen or Callum Brown.

Alternatively we could simply exclude contracts and contract negotiations from the captaincy decision making process.

I’d give it to the guy who is a transcendent talent with game changing ability, and worth the price of admission on his own. The fact that he has never put a foot wrong and mostly gets his contracts done without much drama is a bonus.

I’m taking the Jack Crisp option myself. Now there’s a bloke with talent, leadership, reliability and a team first approach.

What have you seen in terms of leadership?
