If you don't like Moore, that's perfectly fine.

Throwing the "woke" label on one of our players in a way that is intended to demean adds little to the discussion about him as a player or as a human.

It was not negative, it was relating to the concept of being a man for our times that someone put out to describe him.

I have literally never heard the word woke used as anything other than disparaging when used to describe someone.
Technically he appeared to be criticising the times and not the man.

Personally I think you should just reclaim the term. It was originally coined by progressives to describe their realisation regarding sexist, racist and homophobic behaviour. Its a badge that you believe in inclusion. Wear it with pride, and if some want to try to turn that into a negative, let them try and fail.

Depends what side of politics you are on. Lefties are happy to be considered woke citizens.
WTF is a woke citizen?
Do you really believe that crap?

Well, if you’re foolish enough to play into the false binary of left vs right nowadays (as if life and the world is that simplistic).

The ‘right’ would use woke as a derogatory term for those they see as so infatuated with identity politics that they’re unable to conceive the world outside of gender, ethnicity etc. Identity markers that make you either a victim or an oppressor. Unable to understand the world in any other terms.

The ‘left’ would argue that these are valid concerns inculcated by centuries of colonialism and slavery, and just making things superficially ‘equal’ from a legal standpoint doesn’t erase the kind of hereditary disadvantage and trauma passed down from a familial line like the stolen generation.

Theres much truth in both takes and they’re not mutually exclusive, but the infighting identity politics breeds amongst the general public keeps everyone’s eyes off the real prize. The fact that 1% of the population holds half the world wealth.

Infighting Amongst the proletariat means that this will remain unchallenged.

No argument with any of this but I don't see it as a revelation, simply human nature. It plays out behind every act and consideration down through the ages.

Financial reward is the great corruptor as it empowers the unscrupulous, so whilst the present system is in place no amount of breast beating will change anything.

Back to Darcy…his involvement in the leadership group at the very least signals a commitment to the team/club. Of all our players, he’s the one I’ve most expected to walk over the years.

Mainly because he’s not - according to accounts - a ‘footy head’. He obviously loves playing it, but apparently has little interest otherwise in the game. Was it Pendles who jokingly said he has to ask his opponent his name each week?

Being a star footballer, the son of a gun, in a team like Collingwood with all the attendant fan and media attention - can’t be easy for someone with a broader world outlook. Still, the income would come in handy.🙃

Heard similar things about Grundy as that Footy is not everything for him.

I don't see it as a Bad Thing as long they are Playing Well as that could Lesson the Chance of Burn Out

Agree TD, it’s not a bad thing.

Grundy must be very close to completing, if not already completed, his physiotherapy studies. He certainly has a career after footy sorted out.

Agree that tribalism is human nature and systemic change is required.

So you throw the blanket “lefties” in now?

I’m getting a better feel of why you are always potting him.

Any justifiable criticism of Moore starts and ends with his soft tissues! He could sell Pete Evans’ aura cleansing lamps and I’d still back him for a future captain.

I agree. Moore is the right guy (soft tissue issues aside). Elite talent, articulate, a decent man (my kids went to Carey with him), and a Collingwood person through his dad.

As an important aside you should know that every time Pete Evans is mentioned JB1975 shudders... so this has now happened twice in the space of minutes.

The soul of Pete Evans is as palatable as seeing Clive Palmer stretched naked and lustful on a four-poster. His eyes are an impossible combination of emptiness and evil.

I do shudder, in a manly way, but I can abide some mention of the symbol of modern stupidity.

He should not, however, be used in any context in the discussion of my dashing Darcy Moore. This thread and the man himself deserve better.

I think it's 5 year's full time for physio. I think he'd still have a fair bit of part time to go. It wouldn't surprise me if he was doing less than half load.
