Heard this stat on 'On the Couch' on Monday. Can anyone verify it or did I misunderstand it?

They said something like Brown kicked 6 on him, Jericho/some other Adelaide player kicked around 4 and Pavlich kicked 5(?) as well.

If true, guess it just goes to show what an absolute vital role a gun midfield plays both offensively and defensively. If the midfielders don't put pressure on the opposition delivering the ball lace-out to their forwards, then all backmen are shown up.

This I believe is also one of the major reasons why Carlton struggle so much in defence, NO ONE in our midfield chases back hard enough, they're all too worried about delivering the ball forward and then stopping.

Further proof how damn good West Coast's midfield was and how they made a lot of players look a lot better than they are/were.

Was beaten by Brown in round 1, was bombarded in round 2 but conceded I think 3 goals - was injured in this match and played the Derby clearly carrying an injury (his knee). Not a great start to the year, he probably needs a week off really.

Yep. Stuff all any backmen can do if it's coming in with ease and precision. Glass does appear to be carrying a niggle though.

Hardly Glassy's fault. The ball has been getting bombed down there like he wouldn't have seen in years.

If he has been on the ground for the whole games that would be another factor, given most players have so many rests these days.

It's hardy a surprise to me.

He's conceded over 40 goals the last two years, which has placed him about 8th or 9th in the so called "Reverse Coleman" according to the AFL Prospectus.

Nowhere near the numbers put up by the likes of Scarlett and Rutten.

He isn't that good. Even Daniel Merrett conceded less goals last year.

That's the whole point though. I am just trying to figure out whether the midfield really means that much.

Does that mean Glass was made to look better than he is because of the dominant midfield of West Coast? Or is it because he is carrying an injury? Or is it because of some other reason?

Does this put into perspective Scarlett and Rutten's performances over the past few years considering Geelong and to a lesser extent Adelaide haven't had as dominant midfields as West Coast? Especially Geelong as their midfield only came to the front last year.

Is that it, or is there some other reason?

You're catching on.

Glass is overrated. He was a terribly average footballer for a long time who coincidently started playing good football when West Coast began winning games and their midfield became one of the best ever. Now, Eagles falling, Glass struggling. Pretty distrubing trend. I hope for the sake of all those who jumped on his bandwagon we don't have a new Darren Gaspar or Jon Hay in our midst.

Great defenders perform when up against it, that's what makes them as such.

Not all of j. browns 6 goals were on glass, nor were all the goals from adelaides forwards etc.

Just because you man up a player generally doesn't mean you have him covered when the ball is coming in, he might be off the field or covering for someone else or maybe he swapped.

Having said that it has been a poor start to the season so far, the injury doesn't help.

You're ____ing delusional.

Glass >> Scarlett for 2 years in a row.

Have you ever seen a west coast game? Even at our best we always presented the opposition with an open paddock in their forward lines, glass would be one on one more then any other fullback in the competition, we trusted him to win, he would, then we'd rebound to great midfielders.

Scarlett and rutten get a lot of help (scarlett less then rutten) in stopping players whereas glass will ussually have to help others who are incapable in our defensive line.

ur a joke mate. 2 years in a row his the full back of the All Australian team. You got to remember Scarlett's got much more support, able to move off his man easily and be covered, and his ALWAYS got a man running back to support him in the flight. Glass on the other hand plays 22 matches, close to a full game every time against the best forward the opposition has top offer.

For this year his injuried, i dont know if ur getting the reports over east but he hasnt been training properly cause of his knee. His taken it on the chin and played on, wrong or right decison, his there to lead his team

just to quote u again, when has the whole GEELONG DEFENCE EVER BEEN RATED TO LAST YEAR!! bar scarlett and milburn thet were a bunch of no-namers.

i agree he wasnt that good of a defender for a period in his youth, but his rise came before 2005 when the eagles started winning.

open ur eyes mate

Constant crying from these country bumpkins is getting pathetic. Everyone that knows football rates Glass higher than Scarlet...Thats why Glass is AA and that other spanner is a donkey in comparison...
