Just curious, It's been many years now since he left our revered club, and I think he has shown some development at Brisbane, at least from maturity. What would your reaction be if you read the above headline in the news in next years trade period and on that note, IF Dayna beams asked for a trade would club do you think would be keen to get someone like Dayne.

This all came to mind after seeing the conversation about Brisbane on the newest episode of AFL360.

I'm curious on what peoples opinion would be.

Ultimately I want the club to give us the best chance of winning and he is a quality player, so I wouldn't be against the idea. That said I'd prefer to wait until his current contract is up in 2019 as he's likely on very good coin and it's harder to trade for a contracted player. Waiting the extra year would also allow the club to see where we're at, no point bringing in a 29/30 year old Beams if we're not playing finals and as a list fit he'd replace Wells who's deal also ends in 2019.

I would be disappointed. If he can’t get on the park consistently now, I have high doubts about him doing it in another couple of years. Good footballer but would have to come back to us super cheap, I don’t think it would happen that way through.

I have no issue with the reason why he left the Club but how he left was an issue for me. For someone who oozes class on the field he let himself down a little off the field when exiting.

I hope he is always welcome at the Club but not as a future player but a past Premiership Player.

Maturity?

I always thought his maturity was always well ahead of his years. I remember watching his first interview on the CFC website and thinking “Gee, this kid is going to be captain of Collingwood one day”. I was only half wrong.

The only problem with him that I see, as campbell023 said, is his ability to get on the park. If he could sort that out (That’s a TradeDraft ‘if’) then he’d probably be our best player ... remember that he won the 2012 Copeland ... and he’s Sidebottom’s vintage.

I reckon he’d be quite valuable even just for his leadership, but that probably makes him more valuable to Brisbane than anyone else right now.

Seeing how we got Degoey, Crisp and Greenwood for him, my question is what do we give up in return?
Could it be like the Chris Tarrant trade, where we got Ben Reid and Paul Medhurst for Tarrant and gave up something like pick 55 to get him back.

FA may change in the near future and be based on years if service in the AFL not tied to a club. they are also discussing once you become a FA you can move at the end of each FA contract. If that happened he cost nothing.

imo his ship has sailed at the pies.

Beams has been one of the worst captains in the AFL for the past five years IMO, his club languishing near the bottom all of that time. And no I'm not the biggest wrap for Pendles as captain but at least Pendles is generally a clean skin off it. The only reason Beams got the captaincy at Brisbane was by default, because the cabinet was bare - pun intended.

You were obviously wrong about Beams as being mature when he;
- got caught up in the mess post 2010 grand final
- the way he left the club like a snot nose brat.

I still like Beams as a player, and I think he can get back to his best, maybe a bit down after the passing of his Dad, but he's a poor captain and from an etic perspective has lacked maturity over the journey.

Since leaving at the end of 2014 Dayne Beams has played in six winning games. Six.

Wow. That’s a frightening stat. Any wonder he looks a disinterested in some games, even when he’s having to carry the Lions. Which happens a lot.

It’s only his second season as captain, and Brisbane had already hit rock bottom before that.

Yeah, that was contentious - but nothing untoward was ever proven.

Any different to any other player who has their heart set on leaving, but their existing club wanting to milk the highest price for them?

Bit awkward to turn up to the Copeland when you’ve announced that you want to leave and you’ve got everyone from the President down to waiters in his ear banging on about how he can’t leave, and isn’t going to leave.

Things might not have been pretty for the club he was leaving, but he and his manager successfully engineered his exit when others have failed or been delayed.

In the end all parties got what they wanted

Even Dale Thomas has played in 19 wins for Carlton!!! Thats a 28% W-L for Daisy and 14% for Beams.....LOL

And in that time he's been an ordinary player, injuries or no injuries.

Maturity can be defined as acting appropriately given the social circumstance. He was mature in some aspects for a 19yo. But then to an extreme level, some 18/19yo criminals have some level of maturity as they ply their trade. He was a bit loose of it, there were also strong rumors he loved to get white powder under his nose.

For mine, Beams as a young man had some aspects of his personality that was mature, and others that were lacking, those were mostly off the football field. I don't see him as the sort of guy that has really grown much on or off it, wouldn't really know, but the lack of runs on the board, flimsy evidence yes, would suggest not.
