All Connors needs to do is make a statement that Dayne would be happy to look at GCS or GWS in a trade and watch Brisbane change their tune.
Yep.

It'll get down to, we go to Beams and ask if he is able to return to us, if he thinks there is no way now, we tell him we can get him to GCS or GWS, he can chose. They have assets to trade. It's in his court. Also puts some pressure back on Connors, who genraly gets his clients to where the want to go.

Has been established that Brisbane are not willing too trade out players so that leaves us with only picks and of them 5 & 25 is the best we can do, may be upgraded to 5 & 21 before it's over.
I think that's the problem. Brisbane have barely made an effort to offer anything reasonable. Perhaps Brisbane should not have approached a contracted player and offered him $800k a year if it had no realistic way of making a trade happen.

Said it before and say it again, bunch of amatuer tyre kickers masquerading as a football club.

If pick 25 turns into Greenwood then I think we've got what we asked for only in a more roundabout way.

5, 21, 25 (Greenwood) is comparable to 3, 20, Kennedy for Judd.

As good as Beams is he's still not quite at the level of Judd.

Still if Brisbane aren't willing to give up pick 21 as well then no deal and we'll have to look at getting Greenwood via the Lumumba trade.

P.S-The talk surrounding Griffin and a possible trade of picks 4 and 7 for him would have Collingwood rethinking the above proposition as fair value for Beams.

We should be shopping Beams to them as a better alternative to Griffen (which he is). Beams can go to GWS to be with his best mate Shaw and halve the flying time to see his "sick" dad. A good compromise and a better outcome for us.

Perhaps not too far off the mark with what you suggest. Although Kennedy being a key forward was worth a lot more than a player like Greenwood. In retrospect trading Kennedy has been one of Carlton's biggest blunders. I think one of the lessons from that Judd trade for us in this situation though is that a pick in an average draft talent pool can end in tears. There was some average talent in that draft and I think the same applies this year. I think this is why we are rejecting the picks offered so quickly, there is simply too much risk of a fail, which is why a player like Aish would satisfy us.

Personally I think Brisbane is now out of the running as its clear they were only fishing for a bargain, by using some dubious leverage, not looking for a marquee player where you expect to have to pay a fair price. I think they will turn attention to Christensen instead.

Which leaves the conundrum of what to do with Beams. Do we start to shop him around? I think we have at least got to see what is on offer now, when we otherwise would never have entertained the idea. GWS seem the obvious candidate.

Fancy a coach sticking up for his players and club and supporters. Terrible of him!! We can't have that. Get a grip. If Buckley had said something similar you would all be calling him a hero.
No, we would be getting supporters from all clubs calling him out on it. Stupid of him engaging with fans.

For me Pick 5 and Aish is still a win for Brisbane, that's not even considering the go-home factor that is attached to Aish. It is also well known that there is a clear top 4 in this draft (not to mention Heeney is already being picked) and 5 to 15 are pretty even. So pick 5 isn't as good as they are making it out to be.

In all fairness Dayne came knocking at our door, of course we want him but are also understandably reluctant to sell the farm to get him, the players mentioned are just too important to even consider and looks like we would rather forgo acquiring him for now to stay loyal to our players

Where your List is was always gone to be hard to do a Trade as all got are Good Kids and We did not want any of your Older Players

Bullshit you came sniffing around him mid year with under the table deals, pull the other one sunshine it plays greensleves.

I think Beams is worth Aish and pick 5. I'll be shattered if we botch this deal up.
Good god, a Brisbane supporter with some sense.

I didn't think they existed

Finger's crossed this Dogs presser states that they are replacing the coach and will be keeping Griffen. Then GWS will have even more cash they can splash around.

Has been said all along that Collingwood want pick 5 + a good player. If Brisbane can’t come to use with this then we’ll walk away. I mean it’s reported that you’re offering Beams $800k a year for 5 or 6 years. It’s becoming clearer that your mob doesn’t really want him.

I'm not so sure about that. I think Swann came waving his cheque book and Dayne's management were happy to talk. Brisbane keep saying their hands are tied and they can't offer any players yet at the same time they haven't even attempted to upgrade their second round pick. All that's been added to pick 5 is pick 25, which is not good enough. Happy for both parties to walk away.
