Could pies pay some of his wage, given there is room in our cap, to fit him into a team that doesn't have enough space? Does that work?

We wanted a pick and a player from Brisbane because they only had one first rounder. IF Melbourne, Gold Coast or GWS came in with two picks in the top 15 we'd bite their hands off for that kind of deal.

I'd prefer he play for us thankyou.

If a club wants him... Give us the player that's taking a major part of your salary cap... Problem solved.

Our Salary cap can only afford to be paid on our playing list.

He wants nothing to do with us and we should feel the same about him

It still doesnt change the fact we need a grade player atleast a few years in the system playin decent footy
If we are getting 2 picks in top 15 they will be going elsewhere as fast as they came in the door

Thanks Smoky, I was just wondering if it was a way to expand the salary cap of a team to get him in the door, if that was a reason someone like GC couldn't squeeze him in. If we land draft picks for him, there would be plenty salary cap space at the pies next year.

But I catch your point.

Cool.

If he wants nothing to do with us... find a Club that he wants to go to, that is realistic about what his worth is. If he wants to ONLY go to Brisbane... then get them to REALLY want him...

Cause they've proved they don't really want him by their offer.

I hear ya... but disagree.

Beams is on 400 odd k a year... Brisbane offered 800k a year (because thats how good he is...) but they only offered a trade that was for a player that's worth 500 - 600k a year???

We can offer Dayne 800k a year by the end of (You know... HIS CURRENT CONTRACT)... there is no ****ing way we are paying his contract to play somewhere else.

We said ready made player... and we still say it.

Draft Picks - No THANKS.

Beams will not go to Melbourne. This is bullshit.
Connors has blown this one big time and this is why
1) for entertaining a hollow offer. Very poor research on Brisbane's intentions when going to the trade table. My mail is that he was on to Brisbane from day 1 to cut the shit and offer a player as well as 25. Brisbane told them to calm down as they are in the box seat and the Pies will buckle under pressure from all angles. Pickering knew that the picks wouldn't do it. He knows his shit.
2) advising Beams to snub the BnF to create frenzied speculation about his relationship with club. This way the club sees no way out and doesn't want to keep an unhappy player. Oops.
3) openly telling GC that this one is not for you, don't bother knocking. Clayton comes out and tells the media this. Connors and Beams seen now as absolutely chasing the cash. The family issue has even died off to a degree in the media. Even the ambulance chaser saying that it's only 20%. Oops.

About Buckley telling Beams to prepared for a preseason? Why would enter into a conversation like that with someone who is totally on the outer at the club? Is it "mate if we can't do anything, stick around for a year, you'll be right?" Or is it "listen you smug little shit, you'll be back hear and you're gonna get flogged during the summer. Will be in your best interests to lay off the piss and don't get into too many mind numbing conversations with Heater."

My thoughts always were Brisbane and Collingwood were never going to cave

I still believe Pies knew he wanted out and knew there were teams sitting back waiting

I have no doubt GWS MEL and GC all have cracks and show Brisbane what he is actually worth

He won't be at Collingwood next year..
Absolutely no chance.

Could it be we set the deadline because Beams will go anywhere, his preference was Lions. We allow a fair deal to play out without other clubs bidding Brisbane up.

Deal falls over it then turns to an auction. Melbourne seem hell bent on getting pick 12, no chance they use it. Will be part of a trade.

We've been quite firm on our stance, maybe more than meets the eye to this one.

Just some late night ramblings.

I have an idea, how about we recruit Heath Shaw in order to keep Dayne Beams at the club!! Beat mates!

I can picture it now. Your punishment for wanting out is being traded to Melbourne. Quite like the Dees in all seriousness, anything to assist a fellow non-scum Victorian team.
I'd love to see Beams end up at Melbourne, for all manner of reasons. The reaction with Bears supporters would be golden!

Also, Melbourne understand how to trade.

Yep. We would've set a deadline as an sign of good faith to Dayne; I wouldn't be surprised if we were hoping the deal with the Bears fell through. GWS have a lot more to offer than that shithole of a club.

The imposed deadline on Brisbane did a few things:

Played it up to the media that we were genuinely trying to do what was best by Beams and to get him to Brisbane as long as we got what we need in return.

Created an isolated point after which other clubs knew we'd happily start receiving offers for him.

It also gave Beams & his Management enough opportunities to screw up to the point where it's obvious that Beams must start opening up his preferences.

Finally, it gave the clubs who had any interest in him, 5 days to find out exactly what they could offer by way of other trades, and what else would be on the table.

We're miles ahead of Beams' Management or Brisbane at this stage, here's to hoping we don't royally screw it up.

The door is shut with Brisbane. They've got nothing to offer so we move along to the next suitors.

Or we can get him to put a price on his head that noone can match but us, whereby guaranteeing he will come to us.

Lol... Won't work like that bud. If he gets picked up by another club who pay him what they want to pay him then he'll be forced to quit and play for a country league for a year and even then would he still need to go in to another draft.

Beams will either get picked up by another club or Brisbane will get done for manipulation of the draft. Your choice.

We'll take your first round pick next that thanks.
