Brisbane fans will say they have nothing else to give. I almost feel we need to get permission to talk to half a dozen likely Brisbane players to work out if we can interest them in playing in front of the biggest crowds in the country.

Agreed. If one these players on their 'untouchable' list said they want to be included in the trade, eg: James Aish, or Sam Mayes. Brisbane would lose all bargaining power and be forced to trade that player along with Pick 4 for Beams.

we won't be trading pick 4 for a gun midfielder and we certainly won't be packaging it with other picks to get a gun.. why? because the 'gun' will either be on par with beams or not as good. The end result being we are still not a top 8 team...
solution?
hit the draft hard this year, pick 4, pick 8, pick 28 and possible even pick 22/24... then give the kids a go, not just the new ones, the ones from the past 2 drafts, we will most likely finish 12-18th, top 6 pick draft another gun... by 2017 we should have an extremely talented young core thats ready to win games similar to 2007, we've seen this script before and it ends nicely. its 2014 but its feels like 2004 :p

Just because you may not have heard of them does not mean that they are duds,

On the flip side just because you have heard of them up there that doesn't mean they are not - without the exodus in 2013 and the injuries this year would any of those names be guaranteed a spot in the best 22 for the lions in 2014?

Looking at crisp in particular are you really expecting anyone to be sold on his potential after 6-7 games of ok-ish footy in a side that was getting belted every other week (which again only came about due to injuries and the coaching team giving kids a run to see if they had anything), even after the admittance that his disposal isn't necessarily great and he is prone to making poor decisions - two qualities which we already have a more than ample supply of?

To put it in perspective - on our side of the fence Tony Armstrong played a few ok-ish games for us at the end of the season after being given an opportunity at AFL level when we were cruelled by the injury imp (and to see if he was worth hanging onto). Does that now mean that other teams will see him as a positive addition in a trade involving the loss of a gun young player (ie. would the Lions accept Beams, pick 28 and Armstrong for pick 4 and Redden / Aish / Mayes)?

I somehow don't think so - even though Armstrong has played a few ok-ish games for us you'd still see him (and probably the 2nd round pick) as being list clogger and not much more, so you'd still be viewing the trade as essentially Beams for pick 4 and Redden / Aish / Mayes (and rightly so because Armstrong wouldn't look like someone who would be in the Lions plans going forward).

Hopefully you'll now see where we are coming from in terms of pick 24 / fringe-at-best player not getting it done at our end.

On another note I find it rather interesting that on one hand some Lions' supporters claim that it would affect the culture of the club to force a player from their "untouchable" list to relocate as part of the trade, but they're perfectly willing to do so for a player who isn't on that "untouchable" list regardless of whether they wish to move or not - seems to be rather hypocritical from where I'm standing.

I like this post though.

We could also go down that path as well, have 5-6 top 28 picks hit the draft and be ready for some massive short term pain.

Based on what Buckley said, he wants a direct replacement for Beams and I think he will try his best and get one from another club because if he isn't and we do finish in the 13th and bellow region, he will more than likely lose his job.

where would GWS rate Patful and or Merrett in terms of trade value?.

If we were able to get Pick 4 and Patful/Merrett

and then on trade Patful/Merrett for O'Rourke i would be stoked.

O'Rourke could instantly come into the midfield group, giving us a midfield core led by; Pendlebury and Sidebottom, with O'Rourke, Adams, Thomas and Freeman learning and developing underneath them.

There is a big difference between watching a young talented side go through growing pains finish 15th than watching a bunch of middle age plodders finish 11th.. I hope bucks and Eddie realise this, if it's promising then the fans will be patient and excited about he new players imo

What is wrong with cavs fans ? It's been a tough 4 years, the shooting was on par or worse than the pies kicking... But now it's time to sit back and enjoy the show :)

A tough four years and then you land Lebron and KLove. :p Possibly Hibbert aswell.

Try being a Sixers fan and watching your side lose Iguodala and Vucevic for Bynum. :(

What about this for a three way:

Sydney Lose Mitchell
Sydney Gain Pick 4

Brisbane Lose Pick 4 & Mayes
Brisbane Gain Beams & Pick 28

Collingwood Lose Beams & Pick 28
Collingwood Gain Mitchell & Mayes

I've ignored the so called Brisbane untouchables as I don't think that attitude will get a deal done. And listening to Swann I genuinely don't think it will go that way anyway. I've tried to be equatable to all parties sacrifice but also gain. Would love some honest feedback.
Sydney love that deal

He's from Queensland so I doubt he would be an option, I like the way he celebrates a goal
He's lively thats for sure.

Lester is a 191cm midfielder which could be handy for us.

Paparone I rate as he was a pick 23 behind Grundy Kennedy Broomhead (good draft)

Unsure how this will play out though.

Oh a philly fan, well then I guess I can't complain :p yes it's been a disaster, Bynum.. What a tosser, shafted 3 teams in 2 seasons. Hopefully embiid works out for you guys because you got dogged at the lottery !

I'd like lester with pick 4, gonna be honest and say I don't know who paparone is lol
Edit: sounds similar to Pepperoni so he might be good

Would gws entertain luenberger for o'rourke with possibly a later pick involved. Pies get pick 4 and o'rourke, br is get beams and gws get luey and a pick. Possibly patful is involved in that deal as well

Why are people on this board so keen on O'Rourke? Is it the "pick 2 " thing because up until now in a young GWS team he has looked like a massive bust who probably won't make it - he certainly has not done anything to get anyone excited about his potential whatsoever to this point.

He doesn't want to relocate.

So his family lives close to GC, according to what I have read, but he doesn't want to play for GC, only wants to go to Brisbane where it would be still be a fair hike for him to go see his family.

GC are tight on their salary cap and Brisbane are offering him $800k a year for 5 years. I am assuming he took unders to stay at Collingwood, he re-signed in 2012 back when Collingwood didn't have a lot of cap space and Cloke was looking for a big pay increase. This would be, I assume, a substantial boon for Beams to leave.

You would hope he isn't using his father's illness just to force Collingwood to break a contract and leave just for a bigger pay increase.

I think we'd be able to offer him a substantial price rise if required purely based on the personnel who have vacated the club since the end of 2012. I doubt we'd want to, but if push came to shove we'd probably give up the 750K per season, which makes me think the salary is a non-issue. If he truly doesn't want to play at GCS I find it a bit selfish tbh, but then again I suppose he's entitled to be.
