True. But with all the BS over the Frawley compo pick and now the Ryder FA farce.I wouldn't be surprised if they(afl) scrapped the FA compo picks next year. Now if Beams who i believe has an issue(just my opinion) with Bucks then i think he will go even if we up the offer next year he can just walk and possibly we will not only lose our second best player but we will have a significant hole in our list at the wrong time.Yes we will have cash to throw at a Danger but there is no guarantee he will leave Adel or he would want to play for us even on big dollars. If we take picks 5 and 25 we can potentially get ahead of the game and prepare to throw some cash at a Danger or a Shiel or some of those young guns who may put up their hand next year.
The trade period isn't even half way yet. So why pull the trigger now? Plenty of time to create a better deal.
We are playing hard ball, not poker with our mates.

Beams isn't a free agent next year if he still wants to go to Brisbane they will have to trade, admittedly with far more leverage than this year or risk the draft.

Has someone mentioned Option 3 yet?
- Offer Beam's father 500,000 dollars to relocate to Melbourne
- Offer Clay Beams a contract.
Assuming everyone above says yes.

See if Dayne still leave for Brisbane, if he does its purely for money and he looks bad.

Do you know if DalSanto was listed at the start of last year's trade period? Genuine question as I don't know, but read that he had a contract that he & Saints agreed to 'tear up' so he could go FA.

Yes he was. If you are contracted you are not a free agent even if you qualified the time limits to be a free agent. So tear up the contract & suddenly you are a free agent.

I thought that Dal was a bona fide Free Agent, however he preferred that the Saints be compensated via a separate trade to sweeten the overall deal. In other words, yes I will go to Nth via free agency if you look after St Kilda with some other trade.

"There was a precedent for the proposed Ryder free agency ploy last year, when St Kilda and Nick Dal Santo agreed to void the final year of the midfielder's contract, which had been triggered when he passed a medical test."

I reckon many are being too harsh on Brisbane - admittedly their supporters are being such nobs that it's understandable. If anyone of the Bris players who the Pies want also wants to come to the Pies, their manager would have contacted Collingwood and a trade involving a player will get done, or at the least the Pies will leak it for PR purposes. a deal like this may or may not involve pick 5 - depending on the player. If none of them want to come to the Pies, Brisbane can't force them out. In which case the we will need to accept draft picks or a deal involving another club.

The difference is that once the contract is voided (Ryder using drugs clause / Dal Santo and Saints the trigger clause for an extra year) both these players had spent enough years in the system to qualify as free agents and get compo. Beams will not be in that position even if we voided the last year of his.

Was that not also the case with Shaw? I have no idea but what Hine seemed to be saying was that even if he was a free agent the listing would have been too late.

But if the AFLPA proposal changes to 7 years Beams as well as a host of other players will be free agents in 2015 and they are pushing hard for it.There is some great names becoming free agents next year Danger,Griffen Taylor Walker,Cotchin,Hawkins,A.Swallow,Birchall and Kruezer.Let's get ahead of the game and do the deal with Beams and start preparing for next year with some cash up our sleeves.

Yeah, Hine basically suggested that it shouldn't be allowed to happen with Ryder, because the AFL's ruling with Shaw last year, was that it could only happen if the player was on the free agent's list in March - Ryder wasn't

Should James Aish come out and say he wants to be traded out of Brisbane then the landscape changes dramatically with this deal.

Stay tuned..................

It sure would change the whole landscape. Have you heard of anything about it or? From what I've heard, he's likely to sign a one year extension. Hopefully we find out what will happen with him soon. Gut tell's me he'll stay beyond his current contract. But then again, after what we experienced with the go home 5, I'm constantly second guessing myself about the younger players we have. Hopefully Aish follows Taylor, McStay, Robertson, Gardiner and extends his contract.

Do you think your club will stick with the supposed deadline they set us? Swanny doesn't really seem too fussed about it. Will be interesting to see if anyone blinks. But I think they'll both likely hold their stance and Beams will be at Collingwood.

Would we be happy With Crisp? 190cm, left-footed utility.

For what it's worth, we rate him pretty highly. Played a few good games under Vossy on a back flank but played well up forward/wing when in the senior side this year. Can pretty well play anywhere, good overhead, kicks goals, quick, good defensively but he kicking lets him down. Based of what he has shown, I'd take him over a second round pick(also considering how our list is and everything too)

He'd be a handy addition to your list imo. But not enough to get the Beams trade over the line.

I understand that we want to look tough as a trading partner... but at what point are we cutting off our nose to spite our face?

Brisbane don't have any players even near Beam's quality outside of Hanley and Rockliff (who we will never get). Just take the picks and cop it, we were never going to get a fair deal for this one.

Going to be awk as next Season, cant remember the last time there has been a situation like this.
