I think regardless of whether we find a new home for Beams or not, this is a loss for Brisbane. Say what you will about Beams going in 2015 but that's still a year away. At the end of the day, they threw 800k pa / 5 years at a player and failed to land him, immediately after failing to land another big player they were interested in.

Worst case scenario, we have a year to turn around his attitude like O'Keefe did when Sydney retained him. Despite the supporter base and the administration unhappy with Beamer, it's not like he's burnt all his bridges. He's holidaying with Sidebottom and Young ffs.

I am thinking that a trade will be done with Gold Coast, however. 8 + 15 or 8 + Lonergan + 29 (my preference). We would need to chip in for some of his salary on a heavily front loaded contract which means he will still get decent coin despite GC's cap squeeze.

You watch, Beams will become a Sun, get to be with his old man, we will get decent compensation. Everyone is happy, except Brisbane.

Looks like Beamsy is staying then.

This all now comes down to the following:

1. Is it possible to turn Beams around?
2. Can we get him to another club instead?

If the answers to the above 2 are NO, then we may have to consider 5 + 25 but only on the basis we an get greenwood for 25.

We wanted a senior player and greenwood is a tough ball winning mid so we come away alright.

Also, if we wanted to get greenwood seperate then we shouldn't have traded lumumba for Varcoe...we should've traded him for greenwood in a 3 way deal.

If lions can throw a sweetener into their deal and we come away with 5 + greenwood we may have to consider it if beams is beyond reconciliation and he won't go anywhere but Brisbane.

Then we just need to make sure we get danger as a FA next year. We have a mountain of money

I would say the answer to both of those is probably a yes... or at least the club is confident they are, which is why it is holding firm. (hopefully).

Players have come back to play for their teams for much less than this. He wanted more money, and we couldn't get a fair deal... I don't think his teammates will be too worried about that. Missing the BnF might take a bit to get over... but again I think he's good enough, and has enough friends at the club, that both sides would be able to get over it. I think if we have a succesful year next year, then suddenly his view changes.

I also think the Club can be open to him - and say that we are open to getting him closer to home, if that is what this is all about, and if he is really keen to be close to his dad - then let us get a better offer from GC, or even GWS. If he and his agent keep blocking that deal - then it says everything about what his motivations are... and he should grow up.

Also, now that we (and other clubs) know clearly what price Brisbane had put on his head... we have the next 12 months to match it - if we think that's what he's worth.

So now the issue isn't trading him but how to reconcile with him. Not showing up to the B&F was a pretty strong statement, the question is why he wants out because it might be partially to be closer to his father but thats clearly not the entire story when he is pretty much giving the club and his teammates the finger with actions like that.

There would be nothing more moronic than playing Beams in the VFL or booing him next year. From a list perspective the only way to win this now is for Beams to choose to stay long term and that starts by making sure he knows we want him there.

Note to self. Don't post on the Brisbane board with the avatar I have.

Their mods don't seem to like that...

We will let either gc or gws deal with him :D

After what he has done i dont want him at the club. If we cant make a deal with another club i kinda feel we should of taken the lions. Would hate it if pick 5 ends up being a gun and we lose beams next year for less.

Don't panic yet...trade week finishes next Thursday not now. Our club have this artificial deadline to give Brisbane first opportunity to trade for Beams. Now it's open slather and Beams could get told 'you're going to the Bulldogs mate, if you want to leave.'

Beams should never have signed a contract without a get out clause if his desire was to move home.

The sad thing is: him learning that Brisbane don't rate him enough to give up a second year player.

I am surprised Beams and his management did not work all this out with Brisbane BEFORE the announcement. They all end up with egg on there faces.

As for Beams, well, he owes us because we have managed him through some of the off field sheet he has got himself into. If he doesn't bleed black and white and wiling to repay us like Swanny did then I hope he ends up and St Kilda for pick 1!

Exactly.

We've made the call to keep him now, so all efforts need to go to reconciliation.

The question is do we want to?

He has acted very poorly. But reconciliation is about both parties acknowledging their faults and moving on.

I think my preference is trading him to GWS

Interesting times ahead.

Out of all our players, which one does Beams compare most too?

I think he can be a bit of a Swan replacement but I'm not sure he has the uncontested game.

Or is more like Pendlebury?

He looks pretty classy to me.

Anyways it was a great pick up for the pies.
