If Watts was pick 20+ people wouldn't be bothered about slow development. I guess being pick 1 though people assume a strong natural ability will make up for a slow developing body (like Morton).

I think he will be a good - very good player, but probably not the superstar we all hoped he would be. Happy and hopefully be proved wrong though.

People forget that the draft is actually about picking up players who will improve your team into the future. It's purely an added bonus if they can come in straight away and make a positive impact on the field.

Yep, I did too.

The comments left me with an empty feeling. It was the context in which Bailey and Gazza were talking talked about him, as if he almost lacked a desire to do what is required to cut it at AFL level. Which I am sure is not the case; it’s just how it came across.

I would have also liked Bailey to have taken a bigger wack at that Grant Thomas w**ker re: comments about being a good assistant not head coach
Yes Andy I was a little concerned! I watched him in two games last year for Casey and was surprised when he was picked for QBD match. I would have thought he would have played better than he did for Casey, did not give me the feeling he was a number 1 pick. I keep wanting to believe all the hype about age and big guys taking time etc. But I do not have a good feeling in my gut. I really hope my feeling is wrong.

I have no doubt about Jack's ability, I was just worried about the infrence about jacks desire to truely put in the hard yards to achieve at the highest level. Jacj is one of those lucky people that are naturally gifted at sport. I get the impression he's never had to really do the hard yards to achieve his results.

I didn't see footy classified so no idea about the comments and their context, but is it possible they were referring to Watts' frustration due to his body letting him down, i.e. whenever he tries to step up the training levels he gets sore/injured?

Thomas, followed up saying 'i never know much about anything I say' when Bailey addressed it so he didn't need to say much. Bailey said he showed leadership by making big calls on the list which is pretty hard to argue with..

I liked how he addressed the risk of the clubs strategy-rebuilding a list almost entirely through the draft, but has complete faith it will work (he has to and so do we..No risk-no reward). He also reinforced how big he is on the idea of seperating players on games played when he talked about who needs to be standing up each week.

Still no goal posts at the Junction Oval :( - the panel showed they have little knowledge of the club.

Exactly right, he is being held back either through injury or logical management and watching kids his age have immediate impact. Of course he wants to play and prove himself.

exactly what they were talking about...

Well there hasnt been a dud no1 pick for a long time, he has a lot to live up to, considering Riewoldt, Hodge, Goddard, Cooney, Roughhead, Gibbs, Murphy & Kruezer are all pretty much justifying the hype

No the last dud No. 1 Pick would have to be Travis Johnstone in 1997 - who was drafted by...that club...hmmm...

I think we all know that Jack has the ability to be a super player. I can gaurantee you all that at the moment Jack does not have the brain or work ethic to get to that point at the moment. If he continues the way he does then he will be nothing. I think he thinks its just going to happen and he will be an instant superstar but it wont.

I know for a fact that over the pre season Bails would call Jack and Jack would simply not answer his phone because he could not be assed talking to him.

We all have to hope that the boy wakes up to himself sooner rather than later.

Mitch Thorp board.
Need some solid roof.

Dont be an fwit and no I am not going to offer up proof of what I said. You can choose to believe me or not.

I am a Melbourne fan through and through and want nothing more than for Jack to be a superstar but at the moment he is doing himself any favours.
Pretty sure you were a Hawthorn supporter 10 minutes ago.

my mates dad knows some big names in the afl and he has basically said something along similar lines. no heart.

Watts has always walked into success as a sporting junior, and I know the club is keen to instill hunger, aggression and appetite to compete into him. Im told they are always putting pressure on him when he's on the track.

But I havnt heard anything about a lack of commitment or desire comig from him.

Correct. All you ****ing idiots reading into Baileys comments and saying he's not putting in the hard yards you blokes are ****ing idiots. I went down to the Junction oval Easter Friday and after the main session Watts, Garland, Gysberts and the machine Sylvia done some extra work.

Now, this was no soft jogging extra work this was gut busting running and the only bloke that looked like he was struggling was young Gysberts, which is expected.

Also, Gawn, Tappscott, Wonna and Bell were doing some work as well.

Gawn is a serious monster he is massive and has built up. Tappscott is an imposing 18 yr old, has hardness written all over him, reminds me of a certain No35 down at Geelong.

Stop harassing Watts he will be ok and stop making stupid comments about him you ****ing morons!

Take your common sense somewhere else. This is Big Footy, the place where rumours are born.

The rubbish about Watts is incredible. We keep hearing about his work ethic and desire to play and the some muppet comes on hear telling us to believe that he is not. So we should trust him and not the club???? I dont think so.

I'd like to think I am patient enough to wait untill he is on the mainstage again and judge him on how he goes, rather than mere heresay from people pretending they know his attitude and committment.

Was named in the best for Casey last night. I'd like to see him picked against Richmond.
