Melbourne have had a few bites at the PP apple do don’t feel too bad for them. Plus it’s not a given yetMelbourne is the team that gets screwed the worst of this losing Anderson if he is the player that posters think that he will be.
Its a massive body blow for them.
If Carlton landed 2nd last and we lost Pick 2 from the AFL, that would have been like multiple swift kicks to the balls.
Yep I have very little sympathy for MelbourneMelbourne have had a few bites at the PP apple do don’t feel too bad for them. Plus it’s not a given yet
This isn't a knock at you or even GC themselves, it is a knock at the AFL. They brought in live pick trading last year and allowed clubs to participate and our club took a big risk trading with Carlton and invested significant draft capital in doing so. Ogilvie is on record at how p1ssed he is about one potentially being issued as the club's risk had paid off garnering pick 3. Now if a PP is issued, everyone gets their picks bumped but it damages the incentive for teams to live pick trade in the future if there is a threat of a PP (which had not been granted for a decade) being dished out at the last minute after all the planning and effort has gone into working lists, interviewing etc for drafting purposes. I don't blame GC for asking for one but in now way should one be given and PP's should have been relegated to the history books the minute the AFL encouraged and made a big deal about live pick tradingMelbourne have had a few bites at the PP apple do don’t feel too bad for them. good. I'd rather use draft capital from trading Hugh Greenwood or maybe Keath in conjunction with either pick 26 or pick 21 to get a mid 1st and keep pick 3 (or 4 if the AFL f@ck the draft by awarding a PP). Imagine ending up with pick 3 (or 4), a pick around 10-12 say, pick 21 or 26 and a couple of later picks. Serong or Ash (1st pick), Gould (mid 1st pick), a KPP (our 2nd rounder) and then some project prospects later in the draft (Jenkins / betts / Jacobs picks wherever they might fall)The flow on from Melbourne getting screwed is they now will look at trading their pick for 2 X GWS picks, which we could have done of we had pick 3.

No one is trading pick 11 and 17/18 for a pick 2 or 3. That was spruiked by the media but not going to happen - just like last year when we were packing 8/13 for one of GC picksThe flow on from Melbourne getting screwed is they now will look at trading their pick for 2 X GWS picks, which we could have done of we had pick 3.

Logically it just doesn't make sense for Carlton to not to require a PP in last years draft with worse record then GC this year.I’m not sure it’s ever looked less likely that GC will get pick 2.
The AFL usually leaks big decisions or hints at worst possible outcomes and then delivers a far more mild decision in the end
This softening up and making people fear the worst is classic afl misdirection and dampens the outcry

To go from essentially nothing in 2018 to 2nd overall in 2019 is super unprofessional by the AFL, shows absolutely no consistency. I think the GC need help, but #2 isn't help, its just another sacrificial lamb sent to slaughter!
I hope you are right!I don’t think they’re getting it either
The difference is though, GC held #2 & #3 last year, was not reported as being interested in trading down as far as I can remember and had draft picks coming out of their ears.No one is trading pick 11 and 17/18 for a pick 2 or 3. That was spruiked by the media but not going to happen - just like last year when we were packing 8/13 for one of GC picks

I still think (I've posted it in this thread somewhere before) that we should speak to the GC and AFL about a deal around our pick and the priority pick and the experienced heads we have available to trade. We could offer Jenkins, CEY or Greenwood and Keath in a trade that perhaps also includes pick swaps and Luko/Rankine. We also promise not to go ballistic in the media about the PP if the deal goes through. Otherwise we go mental about the AFL screwing up the future trades and warn everyone not to do it again as the AFL will change the deal later. We know they want these types of deals for the media coverage they create, so they won't want that hit.
There is an opportunity use the PP and our experienced players to help GC improve in a significant way. If we are smart about it.
A possible suggestion;
GC get pick 2 as a PP. We say nothing. They draft Rowell and Anderson. This gives them their future midfield and a strong chance they stay.
We trade Jenkins, Greenwood and Keath to GC with pick 21. They get midfield experience to support the youngsters, an experienced key forward to help now and a quality defender. GC are immediately strengthened. All 3 players (plus 2 draft picks) are immediately in their best 22.
We get Lukosious and pick 15.
GC IN
Pick 2 (PP), JJ, Greenwood, Keath, pick 21
GC OUT
Lukosious & Pick 15
Adelaide IN
Lukosious, Pick 15
Adelaide OUT
JJ, Greenwood, Keath, pick 21 & our silence on PP
We could end up with Serong, Lukosious & D Stephens in the draft.
This is only possible if we grow a set and make it clear to the AFL that we are pi**ed about a possible PP, but we of course understand and think we can help each other...

The trade happened because Carlton thought they would be rising up the ladder and would be giving us 5-8 not a top 3And yet, that trade nearly did happen.
All it took to prevent it was us imploding in the back end of the season. That was sitting at pick 1 for 15 + 19 mid season.
A year of firsts - Marlion Pickett debuting in a GF, Carlton being the first AFL team EVER to sack a coach due to the embarrassment of a draft pick trade.......The trade happened because Carlton thought they would be rising up the ladder and would be giving us 5-8 not a top 3
Possible the only time a Coach has been sacked specifically because of a trade his team did and the pressure it created in the management of a club
When are the AFL gonna man up and just admit that a team on the GC was a mistake? What a drain on resources, just fold them already and move them to Tassie.
Haha Sanders you were MILES off reality
