Could you possibly be any more "herald-sun" hysterical if you tried?

Bugg deliberately threw his fist out, yeah.

I don't believe Bugg was expecting his fist to land right on Mills's button (hypoglossal nerve).
This is a good post on a couple of fronts and the calling out of the hysteria to a worthy discussion is commendable.
Im not sure of Buggs intent but there is no way Houli meant to knock out Lamb. If we cut out the niggles and the off ball grabbing,we clean the game up overall. This is a good chance to address both issues,we should be taking it.

The worst injuries I'm aware of are lost kidneys and spinal injuries as a result of fair contact.

And mental illness which is often triggered by pressure and bullying in some instances.

Back to my question: who has ever been killed in an AFL game by a punch to the head? You said they had, but I don't recall those instances.
I didn't say that. You've mixed me up with another poster.

Carlisle didn't run 30m to have a go at a player on the ground.

He didn't run to the media squealing about "nasty" things said to him either.

Murphy is just another squib who can give it but can't take it.

"It's ok if St Kilda hit blokes but I'm outraged if anyone else does it" is basically what you've said.

Eye gouging is a filthy act. Whether he meant to or not, why put you fingers near someone's eyes? would you appreciate a poke to the eye?

And complaining Suban went to ground easy? Turn it up.

Pretty much sums them up.

It wasn't Murpny who ran squealing to the media.

No one knows exactly what was said, Caro said it was vile so she must have known what was said.

So how did Caro know?

Murphy ran straight to the media to justify his cowardly act of sledging a player on the ground.

He knew it wasn't a good look so he went the "he started it" defence.

I look forward to the next time we play the little shit.

Amazingly (yeah right) two Sydney players are cleared after bumping players in the head when they had their head over the ball.

Both those incidents were far more likely to cause serious injury than the two St Kilda reports from yesterday's game (a thumb to the eye and a stomach punch). No surprises that the two "victims" were two protagonists that both took dives after each incident.

And you have the nerve to use AFL corporate speak like "duty of care". The MRP this week showed none.
That's your opinion which I believe is wrong. They were assessed and correctly cleared of wrongdoing. Facts are inconvenient things aren't they?

Maybe you should read it properly before replying to it then.

I don't agree with any of your premise that the AFL are supporting unsportsmanlike behaviour by sanctioning players who punch people. There is zero logic in what you've said. I don't think there was provocation and nothing can justify assaulting another player. Is that clear enough?
But you stated (I'm paraphrasing here) that players should just harden up and play through illegal tactics?

Why should the AFL allow illegal tactics?

The OP was never referring to plain old 'niggling'. It was clear it was referring to illegal tactics.

Murphy did not go straight to the media. He released a statement a couple of days later after it had come out, which was pretty quickly.
What is Carlisle's defence? It was only Ballantyne and he deserved it?
I cant believe you cannot see the hypocrisy.
Pushing some one is much worse than verbally abusing someone. How can you not see it?

Bullshit.

The story was out before the game was over.

Oh please.

You can't possibly be that naive?
I have no idea what your point is.
I was comparing Carlisle pushing a player who was lying on the ground to verbal abuse. Apparently verbal is worse according to Saints supporters.
Alan Richardson said on TV that he contacted Murphy as did some players. Why I am naive?

Excuse me?

Who has died in the AFL from being punched in the head??

By that same token we should allow striking to the head because no one has died?
And there's been at least one local footballer that I can recall off the top of my head who has died due to a strike to the head during a game of football.

I'm sure anyone would if they weren't expecting a fellow AFL peer to do such a thing. Troll.

I guess that's kind of my point in the OP.

In any other walk of life, if you illegally harass and assault someone for an hour - you surely would expect some retailation.

Not that long ago, the 'spirit of the game' allowed blokes to whack someone that deserved it, to a degree.

So not a lot of blokes did that illegal, cowardly niggly shit because they knew there'd be consequences.

Right now, there is zero consequence and they all know it. So these jibs run around 'niggling' and 'getting into' guys off the ball knowing that there's nothing the guy can do back to them.

I'm not saying the rules should allow them to retaliate necessarily, but moreso that the garbage guys like Suban dish up every week should be clamped down on.

It's basically bullying. Cowardly Bullying because they know guys like Jack Steven can not retaliate.

Ballantyne, while not exactly injured he was clearly winded. I dare any of you to take a landing like that and get straight up without pausing to get your breath back.

So if sledging a player on the ground is cowardly what is physically pushing a player on the ground called?
