What are your thoughts?
I believe deledios 2006 season was awesome especially the second half when he moved to the backline... i think he could make the transition into the midfield permanently next year and really become a superstar

I hope he does. If gets a good pre season in then he should be raring to go come round 1.

Im more interested in seeing tambling steping up.

I think tambling got better with every math he played... nees to use his skills more seems to butcher the ball more than he should with the skills he got...but like deledio could become very important come 2007....

he was great against the eagles one of few who could hold their heads high at the end. I think he will be awesome next year when he is given a decent amount of time in the middle.

reference to "elite" is putting too much pressure on him.

He had a sensational 1st year when no one gave him any respect.

When opposition gave him more respect in 2006, he struggled at times. He did improve however in the second half of the season.

In 2007, I would like to see Deledio being the link man between defence and forward. I want to see him take on opposition like Judd and Davey do (even if it means being caught with teh ball once or twice). I also want to see him taking more risks - like Hunter did on the weekend against Grant. Run his opposition ragged.

Finally, I want to see him do the tough stuff. Not just receiving. I want to see him taking a big mark and busting packs open. Given his height and weight, he should be able to do that.

Jeez Punta, you must have had a shocking weekend with both teams over there winning. I would have gone camping to get away from it....and I f***** hate camping.

Oh yeah, and Deledio goes alright.

To put it simply Harves

Its my worst nightmare waiting to happen   It can still get even worse too

Those footy gods hate me

LMAO its like do I shoot myself in the head the my left hand or right hand, not much difference at all

Freo are like Sydney. AFL wants them to win it.

Never should have got the points against the Saints. They're not the first to be hard done by with an idiot umpire being the cause.

They never should have beaten us over there. They won plain and simple due to a number of wrong umpire decisions.

Anyone but Freo

Yep.

I hold as much interest in Freo as I do Port Adelaide. Which is none. They're supporters can bang on as much as they want about having history in a different league, but the fact is, they're an irrelevant, made-up, fake team. A Jan Brady of the AFL. If they made the grand final, I wouldn't hold any interest in it, I'd go to the races or something else.

Agreed, he was solid this year without showing anything brilliant, he needs to step up a big gear if he is going to be a "superstar" and definitely needs to start taking more risks, using his pace and also get among the goals.

What he needs is a bit more help. Losing Coughlan hurt us immensely and put all kinds of pressure on the likes of Deledio, Johnson, Tivendale and Tuck this year. I thought Deledio battled manfully against sometimes overwhelming odds. For Deledio to become a "Superstar", the Tigers have to become a very good team.
Chris Judd is a superstar, but he plays in a team that wins more than 70% of its games, and has unparalleled midfield depth. For the Tigers, once the team is there, once the midfield is strong, maybe then can Deledio be a superstar. I'd say all of those things are at least three years away, and thats assuming Polo, Foley, Coughlan, Meyer, Tuck and Lids can at least break even with the likes of West Coast.

Why would you want him in the middle?

He played his best football loose in the backline.

Hodge-like.

Lets face it Bents. Most players should be able to play well as the loose man in defence. #1 Draft picks that are picked as midfielders, should be groomed to play midfield.

Against Judd, Cousins, Kerr, Embley, Braun, Fletcher they above will never break ever, whether it be through lack of pace, height/size or lack of skills

We need to keep drafting well and hope to pick up some more gun midfielders along with some big improvement with Deledio, Tambling, Meyer, Polo and White.

The key for success for the 2 years is whether Brown can get back to full fitness. If he can I believe we could do anything, if not then we will struggle to make the eight and continue to finish mid range.

Deledio (like Hodge) is a weapon loose in the backline. He uses his speed/vision/skills/football smarts to his full abilty in this postion.

Next season will be his 3rd, but Lids is will only be 19/20 yoa. Doesn't need to be a full time midfeild yet.

he is a perfect midfield candidate - speed, strength, good skills, good hands, good vision. using him anywhere else next year is a waste.

Rubbish.

He played his best football and the team played best when Lids was allowed to play off a HBF.

HBF is the new midfield these days anyway.

Is it really?

What the hell are Judd, Goodwin and West doing in the middle (players of 3 GOOD teams)?

Clueless coaches, absolutely clueless.

Hodge only played half back flank cos he was carring an injury. He is more of a weapon in the midfield with his clearences and hitting forwards. Besides JB is the person who plays that role in our team, while its JON who is being groomed for it. Lids has good clearance work and is super quick so id rather see him breaking from the centre square and kicking a goal from 55 out then running out of the backline. Tho there is room for him to swap off the HBF at this point in hs career.

Judd spends lots of time in the forward line. Goodwin plays back/wing alot and West is an inside player, as good as he is can't kick all that well thus doesn't leave the center.

I see you left out Hodge, McLeod, Gilbie, Johncok types.

Your best and most damaging players spend alot of time in postion these days where you can control the game.

Hodge plays HBF because he is an outstanding football with a fantastic football brain, vision and abilty with a loverly long kick.

He can hit forward for the backline - the modern HBF runs and runs and often kicks goals/hits the FF on the chest.

Look at the TAC Cup these days - lots of coaches play there gun player in the backline so they can use there talent to the max.

Deledio will play both backline and midfeild next season.

At the start of next season he will only be 19. People who want him to be full time midfeild next season need to wake up.
