That doesn't explain why he's overrated. All you've told me is that he's had injuries and hasn't dominated games.

Being overrated would mean he's considered in the upper echelon of ruckman, which he isn't.

He is over-rated by posters considering his current form. Posters saying that leunberger is a crucial part of the Brisbane's team - He may end up being an important part of the team, but as yet he is not crucial.

Read Taz'z post saying that Leunberger is on a par with Ryder - Then you will get my drift.

Just been deleted now, but there was a 4 page thread on the Richmond board discussing Conca v Heppell (again).

You guessed it, Heppell is a soft, unaccountable half-back seagull. Apparently it's pretty even ATM, though Conca goes harder at the ball (contested possession kinda goes against that theory though).

I love how Conca is apparently even with the Rising Star and the AFLCA Best Young Player award winner.

Also, apparently Heppell was poor last year. If 2nd in the B&F is a poor year for Heppell, then we have a hell of a lot to look forward to in the next 10 years!

Boys, found this over on the Carlton board in a rich-carl pregame thread.

Great lols had all round.

Cheers

The real season begins. Only Waite (what a surprise) and Scotland missing from our best 22. The MCG will play "dry" despite the overnight rain because it drains so well. There will be late changes, Laidler in for Duigan would be my preference. Duigan is smart enough to go with the ruse and his lead-up form has reflected his end-of-last-season form - a bit slow and hesitant. Bell in for Joseph with Bootsma as the sub.

Our midfield has great depth. Judd, Murphy and Carrazzo are established ball extractors and McLean has just about proved he is back to the level. Simpson and Lucas (on his pre-season form) are good outside mids. Armfield and Robinson are versatile defensive mids who can tag, run with and pressure the opposition all day when they have the ball whilst still being able to contribute getting possession, when in possession and scoring goals. Eight players. Then, like cherries on top, are Gibbs and Bell.

The tigers start well with Cotchin and Martin who on their day are the equal of Judd and Murphy. Deledio and Grigg are starting to become reliable outside mids but it has taken so long it is hard to imagine saying they are guaranteed to produce, not only from game to game but, more importantly for the tiges, for the whole of the game. Both are likely to rack up over 20 possessions and show the Richmond B&F selectors enough to give them votes in a losing side but how many weak defensive acts will they have contributed to? Tuck is similar to these two but a better extractor without the finishing skills. Jackson is a versatile defensive mid but does not seem as potent as either Armfield or Robbo. Six players. And then, like being flogged to death by a soggy slice of white bread are King, Conca, Ellis and Houli, none of whom can be expected to contribute much in contested ball gets.

In the match-ups I would run Gibbs and Carrazzo with Cotchin. The best way to stop Cotchin is actually just to beat him to the ball as he is pretty impressive once he gets hold of it. Judd can expect to carry Jackson and I trust that McLean, Robbo, Bell and Armfield can assist Judd by shepherding, bumping and blocking Jackson off his game. Otherwise I expect to see the MM pack mentality that he developed at Collingwood where, to beat one you had to beat them all.

Our forward line has the spectacular in Betts, Garlett and Walker, the solid in Casboult and the unreliable in Hampson. The advantage of playing Hampson is that Griffiths will need to go to him leaving a slight mismatch for the tiges with the smaller Rance having to play on Caz. Alternatively the tiges could go with Chaplin on Caz but he will then have to play out of the goal square rather than at CHB. And that leaves the slightly error-prone Rance to play on Walker, which should be all Walker needs. Hampson will take a few grabs, but whether it amounts to much on the scoreboard whilst the game is "live" is questionable. In any event it is hard to see the tigers defence controlling the air even with the addition of Chaplin. And that means the tigers face the same problem they have ever done stopping Betts and co off the ground. I assume Morris has the short straw to play on Eddie and this should suit Eddie fine. Batchelor I rate as a footballer although he did not come on in his second year as much as I thought he might. As they often don't. Garlett will need to be on his game to ensure Batchelor's third season continues the trend.

The tiger's forward line has in the past, consisted of Riewoldt. And he has generally done well but one forward has not been enough. There is no one new in the forward line. McGuane is the poor man's T bird. He can take the odd mark on the forward line but he will not dominate the air. I expect Jamo to start on Riewoldt and, as required swap with Henderson onto McGuane to keep them both fresh and pose different problems for Riewoldt. Riewoldt has a variety of tricks and works through them until he finds the one that his given opponent cannot cope with and he usually finds at least one trick. So swapping defenders will upset his rhythm. Vickery, when up forward, can be taken by Henderson with Laidler to go on to McGuane.

Nahas has become a useful small forward averaging 1.5 goals a game without setting much up for others. Yarran seems the obvious opponent since he is faster, bigger and stronger than Nahas. And a much better footballer. I expect he will show Nahas more respect than he showed Josh Green in the pre-season GF. Tuohy seems ideal for King as he loves the physical stuff and, when King is off the ground he can play on Edwards who will otherwise be controlled by midfielders rotating to the back line like Armfield, Lucas, Bell and Robinson.

It being a sporting contest, an oval ball, and officiated over by 3 wildcards whose interpretation of the rules is likely to be seriously questioned, leave aside the sexual proclivities of their mothers, sisters and dogs and whether they are in fact paid employees of the opposition side, particularly by the side that loses, and particularly by me if we lose, I remain confidently expectant of a 10 goal victory.

Wasn't sure where to put this, just thought it funny that even though Richmond finally broke their first round hoodoo against Carltank, that they still sit 9th on the ladder. :)

not a delusional pearler.

Firmly realistic

I'm really delighted that we've leapt up four places already in the power rankings, but the negative is that even if we crush Melbourne this week, we'll inevitably somehow drop another three based on the expert and flawless manner in which it's calculated.

It all depends. If it is obviously the umpires fault then we will drop.....

Or something
