Not needed here at all...gets the report emailed to him... can read it there...if he needs to be here can just hop on a flight and come back.....pretty sure you can get back overnight and even sleep on some aircraft...it's a small world really.

You're kidding?

Notwithstanding the time difference that means if stuff goes down it will likely occur when Vlad is snoring, some delicate matters require face-to-face contact. Some things you just can't put in an email or convey the appropriate message by phone. He needs to deal with this in real time.

Surely the rest of the touring party can go and he can personally have a follow-up trip sometime between Oct - Feb??

Maybe an example of something that requires face to face contact....I can't think of anything in this situation..

Mate clearly you don't work in business. There's plenty of ways to counsel those who need it on ambiguous/delicate matters without implicating yourself ... and it's far easier & safer face-to-face.

So he expands the comp to a point where it can't support the number of teams and then goes to the US to get ideas on how to deal with it? Pretty sure the Yanks will say 'What you only have 22 milion people - well you need to shaft 4 or 5 of those teams then.'

Or they may even say "So you had an immensely successful, popular & profitable competition - not under any threat from any rival AFL leagues (unlike soccer, basketball, golf etc) - yet you decided to expand into non-football areas and waste millions of dollars, tamper with the draft & salary caps, give multiple other concessions and in-turn, disenfranchise your core constituency. Why???"

Why is this thread on this board? The trip has been public knowledge for months and is about the salary cap and draft systems

Perhaps he could find out how the NFL handle things like:

Cost of Living Allowance (They don't have one - the salary cay is sacrosanct)
Father son rule (They don't have one - it compromises the draft)
Priority Picks (They don't have them - it compromises the draft)

The only one I like out of these is Father son rule, I'd tweak it a bit but I don't have a problem in principle

Definitely agree that cost of living needs to go as it is absolute BS that you need it if you live in Sydney

Priority picks leads to teams trying to compromise the game.

I'd also like to see the draw changed and draft allocation system change. In rounds 1-18 you play every time only once, draft positions are set then.

The American Leagues will tell them to have an equal fixture, but that will be never implemented.

You don't see the Lakers and Celtics player each other twice as much as everybody else, and that's why the NBA is more equal.

Hawks running a pre emptive strike:
http://www.afl.com.au/news/2013-08-03/hawks-bault-footy-tax
The AFL is considering introducing taxes to reduce the divide between the rich and poor clubs, which Harris says the Hawks would not sign off on.

"Be assured good management, stable administration, good governance and entrepreneurial leadership are the bedrock of sustained success for clubs, and cannot be replaced by taxes et al on successful clubs and taxes on fans on game day prices," he said.

"Otherwise we may as well hand over our keys to the AFL and give them the running of our clubs and avoid striving for excellence."

As an Eagles fan I ponder the Hawks views if they chucked $millions into Vic footy like the WA Clubs do ... expect Eddie to be colluding to have a Vic club view, the have v the have nots !!
