It might be a blessing in disguise if Jack Watts does'nt nominate for this years draft, with the likelyhood that we will finish down the bottom if not bottom again next season we could potentially pick up say Vickery this year with the no 1 pick & Watts next year with the first pick!

If he doesn't nominate he will be going to the Gold Coast.

And perhaps miss out on a better player.

I bloody hope NickNat and Vickery go before our pick. It would almost force our recruiters to look for an early midfielder at last.

Is it beyond the realms of possibility that Watts can slip upto picks 5/6?

If, for e.g. Melbourne take Rich at 1, would West Coast and Freo pull the trigger on Watts with both of them being burnt in recent years (Judd and Warnock)?

Would Port?

And then would Essendon considering they have plenty of key forwards.

Unlikely but you never know.

gold coast in 2010??? but im pretty sure gc get first dibs in 2009 draft. then they do a preseason and play 2010 maybe??
watts will nominate this draft- i cant see ANY advantages to waiting.

Your dead wrong, GC don't get any picks in the draft until 2010.:thumbsu:

And also if we take Vickery i will shoot myself!!!

But i highly doubt we will, I think prentigast is just trying to throw people off the sent.(the sent of Jack Watts that is):D

please brush up on your drafting laws philthy this has been done to ****ing death!!!

If you tanked against Carlton last year you could have both this year! :p

It was the Bulldogs game a few rounds before that cost us, Carlton were never going to win that game in round 22. Would of been great to be able to take Watts and Rich in this years draft but what can you do!

Gee, Emma Quayle has really gone out on a limb with this story. She is saying that Melbourne is looking at Watts, Rich, Naitaniu & Vickery!!!!!

Considering that everyone on BF has pretty much had the above four players constantly mentioned as the top 4 picks in this years draft she has really had her nose to the grindstone putting the story together.

Melbourne - No KPF = Watts

You're absolutely kidding yourself if you think she's using BF as a source.

She has quotes from Barry Prendergast discussing him as a possible top selection.

Yeah possible.

Quayle: So have you considered Vickery with pick 1?
Prendergast: He has been discussed as a possibility along with the other 3.

Article done.
C'mon mate, the quotes are a bit more detailed than that and Emma's work on the draft is always top notch. It doesn't surprise me that Vickery is in contention for Pick 1 given that he's coming off a serious injury, was highly rated before that injury and has been in good form this year (isn't normally second year after a knee reco where you see the players best form? ;))

Obviously the quotes are more detailed and i'm sure the questions were too. I respect Emma's work and that wasn't meant as a derogatory comment, i was just pointing out that journalists (even respected ones) ask tailored questions to get specific answers.

I'm sure Vickery is in contention for the No.1 pick, especially with his potential to play forward & in the ruck with 2 of Melbourne's greatest needs a forward and a ruckman. But you could arguably say the same about Ziebell or Hurley or Sidebottom as potential No.1's and get some similar answers.

Honestly i didn't take much out of that article. Prendergast was asked some specific questions and he gave some pretty stock-standard answers that i would expect from any recruiter if they were in the same position.

I bloody hope NickNat and Vickery go before our pick. It would almost force our recruiters to look for an early midfielder at last.

Vickery is the one; Nat will 100% go prior to 7, as will Watts and Hurley.....meaning that this would be perfect for the Lions:

1. Watts
2. Rich
3. Natanui
4. Vickery
5. Hurley
6. Hartlett
7. Ziebell or Sidebottom ;)

Ahhhh, a premium midfield pick

That would be nice for the Lions, but I see Carlton taking Ziebell ahead of Hartlett since they could use a strong half forward as well, and Ziebell could be the man.

Ziebell is highly rated. I think earlier in the year he was talked about in the top few picks. Wouldn't surprise if he went in the top 4.

Still, Sidebottom won't be a bad result for us.

from what i hear port are very keen on hurley, if this is the case vickery may slide a bit. cant essendon or carlton picking him up with hille/laycock/ryder and kreuzer/hampson/cloke and possibly warnock, so maybe just maybe vickery may slide to u guys

What I am saying is that the top 4 guys have been spoken about being the top 4 selections for about the last 4 - 6 weeks. It would have taken the three blind mice less time to put the story together as it is fairly well known that Watts, Naitanui & Rich are all going to be in the top three selections. Vickerey has also been constantly spoken of being a top 4 selection in recent times.

I never inferred that she used BF as the source but if it takes her this long to put a story together about the bleeding obvious than perhaps she should be looking to use BF as a source for her column.

We will take Watts. I'm 90% sure. I hate this "oh let him nominate next year instead because we'll still be bottom" because I'd hate another year as bad as this. I'd much rather have a year like Carlton and Richmond have had where they have at least shown some promise.
