Demons set to plunder the Blues

There are not many bigger, more physical ruckmen going around than Darren Jolly. I struggle to name one actually, especially one so young.

To consider calling Godfrey, Miller, Thompson or Whelan soft is pure ignorance.

Nathan Brown is one that dees_best left out and one you can add to your list, and hopefully we take Phil Read over Ryan Houlihan.

McDonald, Ward, Rigoni, Jamar, Vardy, Carroll, Holland, Robertson, Nicholson and Fisher are on the harder end of the scale.

Smith, McLean and Sylvia fair enough are untried, but you could hardly call them soft.

By my calculations that's a list of more than 5 players who don't fit into the "soft" category.

It's Jeff White, Chris Heffernan, Brad Green and to a lesser extent Travis Johnstone who are giving the rest of the group a bad name.

We called Melbourne soft, not Sandringham!

Primus, Brogan, Biglands, Charman, Hille, King, Gardiner and Cox all bigger and more physical.

Charman and Hille are your two young bigger more physical ruckmen.

Try looking outside of Melbourne. The fact you reckon Jolly is the biggest most physical ruckmen in the league worrys me. How many games of footy do you watch a year? 4?

To consider calling Godfrey, Miller, Thompson or Whelan soft is pure ignorance.

Godfrey ill give you. Miller seriously struggled against just about every opponent he had this year. He played maybe 1 or 2 games youd class as average and the rest he was thumped in. Thompson is hard, not tough. Whelan is not tough either.

Rigoni, Vardy, Jamar, Carroll, Fisher played 34 games between them this year. Fisher didnt even play a game. Its a worry that 5 of your players you consider on the harder end of the scale either struggle to get a game or are constatnly getting injured (vardy). Id hardly call Vardy tough either. Nor is Robertson...a whopping 23 tackles in 22 games...yeah thats the sign of a real tough nut.

Mcdonald and Ward are hardly tough.

Smith, McLean and Sylvia fair enough are untried, but you could hardly call them soft.

You might not call them soft, but you could hardly call them tough either. They are untried. You dont know how to class them yet.

All youve done is mention a bunch of non-soft players. The only problem is...the majority of the names youve mentioned in that post arent hard or tough players either.

Carlton supporters call the Melbourne list soft. pffft.

Melbourne supporters often say that our own list has too many soft turds on it but to come from a Carlton supporter is a joke.

Carltons gun recruit Stevens would run as fast as he could the other way should he ever encounter the situation where he has to put his head over the ball.

Scott Camporeale do I need to expand. He is the biggest squeeler in the AFL, he sooks frequently. I have never seen him do anything remotely tough.

Lance Whitnall. If you were that fat and slow you would think that physicallity would be a big part of your game not big ole Lance he jogs around trying to stay out of the way.

and I only had a dig at the top line players at Carlton there is so many others that turn into jelly when the heat is on.

Have a look at your own mob before you call us soft.

This shows how much you know about Melbourne. Miller struggled in 2 games when at full back and center half back. When he played at CHF he showed how physical he is. At CHF he played 5-6 very good games from a young 19 year old. Then he was injured for a couple of weeks and never got back. Maybe you should get some of your facts right before you post.

Including Gardiner and Cox in that list is funny.

I would argue that Jolly is more physical than all of those excluding Primus and King.

Of the youngs, if he was third behind Charman and Hille that would place him in the top 20% of young physical ruckmen in the comp. Personally I believe he's level with Charman and a notch above Hille.

At least 50 actually.

Godfrey ill give you. Miller seriously struggled against just about every opponent he had this year. He played maybe 1 or 2 games youd class as average and the rest he was thumped in. Thompson is hard, not tough. Whelan is not tough either.

The games you saw Miller in were obviously his games in defense. He's a natural forward and has shown that in the games he's played there.

Hard/tough, same difference. I think your referring to age and maturity which will come.

With the final line of your post you finally get it. I was responding to superstar who originally said that he would only class 5 Melbourne players as non-soft. I've named 16 from our best 22.

Well Houlihan has re-signed with Carlton.

Nice "plundering" by the Snow Bunnies. Might be time to get on the blower and tell Phil Read to come back.
Davey is firming to become a Demon now that Houlihan has re-signed.

Can Surjan be selected in the PSD?

Well done Houla. Most players are only ready to play their first year of football at 21 and you've already got 70 odd games under your belt and talent to burn. He'll also benefit from the strengthening of the Carlton list, freeing a little of the pressure for him to perform when so many around him, (Murphy, Plunkett, Eccles...and on and on), are not up to it or couldn't give a toss.

Like Lamby29: what is the go with Surjan? Why was he given such big wraps and then snubbed?

Of all the playres I named only Fisher is a Sandringham regular.

Rigoni, Carroll and Jamar are fringe but the other 16 all have a place in our best 22.

If that's the case, I know who my money's on for the wooden spoon!

Plundering Carlton for talent is like fishing in a rainwater tank.

Still upset Porthos :D
Just stating an obvious fact. If you were looking for talent to raid, Carlton would be the worst place to look.

Porthos,

I'm the first to admit that the 10 players we delisted were not worth s**t but please don't generalise like that when you consider we have players such as Koutoufides, Whitnall, Camporeale, Fevola, Thornton, Waite, Houlihan, Sporn, etc....

McKernan, Allan, Beaumont and Murphy were all traded. Say what you will about their attitudes but they were still worth something in the industry, so the cupboard wasn't that bare as some would have you think.

This would have been a credible post, but then you mentioned Houlihan and Whitnall.......

Of the ones that would be worth talking to (Kouta, Whitmall, Camp, Wait, Fevola) how many are/were out of contract? Zilch.

Pretty bloody bare by the time this article came around though, don't you agree?

Dasler I actually rate Whitnall. The guy is an amazing footballer, his only failure is that he does not look after his body. If he could ever get that right IMO he would be either the premier or the second best CHF in the competition.
