You could have the Gold Plated Sons of God at FF and CHF and if you haven't got a decent midfield, it doesn't ****ing matter who you have down there, you're still ****ed. Melbourne gonna spend near 20% of salary cap on two key forwards? I don't think so pal.

I would say that's not so much comparing him with those players, as it is listing exactly where he is on the charts of current players.

Top goals per game, with a minimum of 50 games

3.22 - Franklin
2.36 - J. Brown
2.33 - Podsiadly
2.27 - J. Riewoldt
2.27 - T. Walker
2.19 - N. Riewoldt
2.09 - Milne
2.00 - S. Johnson
1.94 - Pavlich
1.89 - J. Roughead
1.85 - Tippett
1.69 - J. Kennedy
1.68 - Garlett
1.63 - John Anthony
1.58 - Cloke
1.56 - Betts
1.51 - A. Edwards
1.51 - Hawkins
1.50 - Porplyzia
1.49 - Gray
1.42 - Brett Ebert
1.41 - M. Stokes

There's 11 Key Forwards on that list with higher averages, and that includes two players who have also spent a lot of their career in defence, Pavlich and Anthony.

Don't let Schwab see that table.

"Fremantle Football Club? Yes. I'd like to inquire about an exciting young prospect......"

Astonishing. Threw all this money at Clark and now hes broken they want to replace him?

Melbourne are a clueless rabble.

Or its an ambit claim designed to pressure the Pies into paying up, so thay can gather scraps....Reid, Wellingham, Beams, O'Brien etc. That wont work either. Collingwood isnt budging an inch. Clokes appearance on the Footy Show has drawn the line in the sand. They wont be bullied. If somebody wants to pay 5 mil for Cloke they can have him.

Yeah, MFC pushing a rival club's salary cap up. What are they thinking???

They are thinking Collingwood is stupid.
They are wrong

Its pathetic and amateurish.

Collingwood woudl be falling over themselves to shove Cloke in the taxi and sending him down to ........where is it Melbourne train these days? Junction Oval? Cranbourne? Koo Wee Rup?

As a result of these offers from other clubs including Melb, are Collingwood not now having to inflate Cloke's yearly salary and perhaps offer him an extra year???

This is delightful if true.

If he goes to Melbourne, that is two players they have lured through big bucks. Yet they'll still curse that 21 year old kid with their last chardonnay-smelling breath for doing the same thing.

Pack of ski-slope inhabiting hypocrites.

Most Melbourne supporters don't seem to want him. Plus is it us supporters who are luring him to the club?

As for the ski-slope inhabiting hyopocrites, it's much better than a team that has no supporters, no history of success and is based in a shit hole. In fact it is based in so much of a shit hole you even had to change your name to try and distance yourself from it. Sons of the west, lol!

This is the biggest myth going atm.
Collingwood have worked out what they can afford to offer Cloke, and put the offer to him.

Cloke wants more, both in terms of years and $$, and all of a sudden all of these 'new offers' are springing up, a ridiculous tactic to try and get Collingwood to up their offer....

Collingwood will not be upping their offer based on rumours....if anything if Cloke does indeed want to stay a pie, which is supposedly true, it now puts him in a worse spot as his form has been ordinary and we are winning games on the back of Beams, Sidey, Blair stepping up.

Pies are open to 4 or 5 years...have always been, as long as the numbers are not excessive.

No news there

Ok. So they wouldn't prefer to give him 4, but may have to go with a 5 year deal due to the interest of other clubs??? It's all a big game.

Was there not an article on Neeld and moneyball in the paper a few weeks ago?

They are already chronically overpaying Clark, now throwing massive coin at Cloke and Boak. LOL.

Melbourne adopting a new approach, reverse moneyball, pay as much money as possible for the minimal return, Neeld is clueless, another dumbarse coach overrated as he was under Malthouse just like McKenna and B.Scott

Its about keeping the 2013 list togteher. A five year contract wont undermine that. As long as the salary is reasonnable. Its all about the annual salary and the Pies arent budging.

Other offers may well have upped the contract to 5 years. I don't see the problem with 5 though. In fact I think it should be 5 and in year 5 he'll be the bargain of the competition. By that time there will be a new TV deal and salary cap.

I've never had a problem with five years at the right price. Cloke has a good injury history as did his dad so its worth the risk. As long as the price is right.

I'm not having a dig at Collingwood. They're a great club who have been put in a difficult situation by having such a great list. I'm merely pointing out to the posters on here having a go at MFC that there is method behind their madness. Cloke may not be their number one target. And if he is, why not? Clark, with his heavily front-loaded contract and Cloke would provide them with two marking forwards that would be the envy of most other AFL clubs.

Lol at the Collingwood supporters starting to crap themselves that Cloke may actually decide to leave. I could go either way if we miss out its not a huge deal but if we can land him it would be good for our structure having him as the high leading forward with Clark playing deeper and more dangerous around goal. Would still rather we went after midfielders but we could do with another KPP anyway through free agency and try to trade/draft for midfielders who come on quicker.

It's also a fallacy to say we would be overpaying (or that we overpaid for Clark). It's only overpaying if you can't afford it we have cap space to burn and have structured the contracts so that we have the money to throw at free agents/potential trades to lure them to the club. You generally have to pay overs to lure players away otherwise there is usually little incentive for them to do so.

Neeld and the FD know exactly what they're doing so thanks for your concern but they are going about this the exact way they should. Better than just racking up tonnes of draft picks and using them on players who are either unproven or take years to come on. Better to just bring in players reaching their prime especially the bigger guys.

There is no method in their madness whatsoever. They already have Clark. They have Watts. Its an ambit claim and I hope Cloke plays their bluff. It will leave clubs including Collingwood the opportunity to poach every young kid Melbourne has on their list. Maybe including Watts.

Its a ridiculous bid, considering the money they threw just last year at Clark.

Other clubs including Fremantle have a genuine need for Cloke (and potential cap room..). Melbournes bid is just a laughing stock.
