Dermy reckons Tex should retire.
I think it’s probably time. I think his football knowledge will make him a good coach.

Not sure why this is getting news, its not some big revelation. Let's be honest the club and selection was kind to him during 2019 and although injured even at times during 2018. He has been a great player but has been nursed through to 200 games. Without his mate running football he probably wouldn't even be on our list in 2020.

I get the horrible feeling that we are guiding him through to the 200 club and the goal kicking record...which is so Adelaide, instead of being ruthless and just not picking him based on form
I personally think he deserves to get to 200. More deserving than a host of AFC players before him.

He is getting games I believe to get him to 200 games or breaking Modra's record and then I think he might pull the pin. The second part looks like it will take a while. He is the heart of our club and he would make a great assistant coach. We need him to replace Hart and sit boundary side during matches to pass info to players. His inspirational value is as good as it gets. The best captain in the AFL for 2 years shows that.

The infuriating this about Tex is he can turn on patches of football that make him look like the best player on the park. Then he goes entire games where he can't get near it.
A symptom of playing in our forwardline and entry to it.

And a cooked body. Lifting for a short period takes a lot of him. Even the game that signalled his return was half a game. He's as cooked as Betts, but there's a lot of excuses made given he's a 1 club Crow. I can excuse carrying him to 200, but I think it's a mistake. Retiring at 197 because the body can't go on is more to be proud of than being carried to 200 that form didn't warrant. In any case, I'd hope any talk of carrying him to break Mods record is pure crap. Simply cannot keep selecting a cooked player to break a record that they may not even get to.

FFS, we've got nothing else to look forward to this year. Let's at least have that.

Got nothing to do with the multiple players hanging off him I suppose?

I thought he was talking about in previous years.
Hasn’t had good delivery for years.

I'm looking forward to 2024, watching Tex hobble and be carried to 200 does nothing positive for me. I suppose, given we'll be bottom next year as well, you've got Mackay's 250 pencilled in as a red letter day and you'll be devastated if he doesn't get another year. Nothing like having a team first mindset. Let's select for the senior individuals that have been involved in cocking up our culture.

We talk about demanding ruthlessness without appreciating the consequences. He is loved by the team and if we can get him to the record whilst we are down the ladder so be it. Not like we are pushing for a flag ATM.
I agree it's a fine line. I was never a fan of gifting players a farewell match, but I've been proven wrong with that, because those types of matches are what brings supporters closer to their club.

But other times, they just need to make the call (Scott Thompson)

He's a key forward, he's suppose to be manned up. Getting through that is about 80% of the job profession!

Also, like I insinuated, he can still do it at a very high level, but he's just not consistent anymore. Which is a sign of his body catching up to him for me.

Out of interest what makes you think he is loved by the team? The club had to intervene to keep him in the Captaincy role at the beginning of last year.

I am not suggesting he is disliked but I think you might be over playing it.

He’s played 197 - surely no one whines about giving him 3 more games in a season that means little. He’s earned that and deserves it.

Im not as fussed about the goal kicking though.

A call does need to be made sooner than later though I think as I suspect it’s not helping Fog to have a similar style player in his space.

Need to get Modra on the selection committee ASAP!

He'll call time long before then. Tex is (IMO) one of our greatest players and has given everything for this Club. And while you might not get anything out of him reaching 200, you would be in the absolute minority. Also, you are being a dick. I've been calling for DMac to be delisted for a couple of years.

Given everything has he? Do tell.

Except he had a decent year in 2019, but was pretty terrible for most of 2018.

Leading goalkicker last year. And I think he's still our leading goalkicker this year. I was about to say "think of how much worse off we'd be without him", then I remembered we're winless, so we literally could not be any worse off.

But yeah, at this point I don't have any major objections to giving him the last 3 games he needs. I pretty much checked out of this year once the season shut down after round 1, so I don't really give a toss. I think Talia is about to hit 200 games as well - that and Tex are probably the only things we're going to get to cheer for this year. We're certainly not going to see a win.
