Gold Coast - Marlin. Does anybody else think of the XXXX Gold commercial? "Marlin, MARLIN! You bring that stick back here or so help me I'll come and get it myself!"

I'd go with Bulls or Stingrays (i'm in favour of that Stingray design)

Well the word 'marlin' originated from the Dutch. So it's not American at all. You only think it sounds like an American baseball team because you've heard of the Florida Marlins, which happen to be a baseball team. Here's a tip, never say "sounds like and is" in the same sentence because it doesn't make sense.

I got bored at work today... thought i'd have a go at this. Since we can't use sharks as the mascot, lets call them... Gold Coast Predators!
Couldn't decide on a colour scheme, so here's 2 vastly different combos.

i like it. but if i was to nitpick id say the fin could be more sharklike. oh and the blue/orange is better

I had just about this same design in mind back around 1993 when rumors started that the WAFL were going to introduce a Fremantle club to the AFL. With "Bulldogs" taken, I figured East Fremantle's monicker would be used, "Sharks". I imagined a white jumper, with black fin coming out of a dark blue bottom representing the water, but the water was straight and still, no waves.

If they are really gonna go with that name, the GC skyline is what they should use, not some weird surfer dude. Apologies for the NY skyline, but you get the gist.

wasnt far off the colours, diff blue and some yellow. THey should lose the dodgy looking lifeguard tho'

Neither can I. Unfortunately these days clubs seem hell-bent on having 3 or 4 colours, the more colours, the more oppurtunity for a clash.

If it were just red and yellow, it wouldn't clash with many teams...

It won't be a traditional design, nor have any traditional design elements in it, so that will go to preventing potential clashes somewhat.

It won't be a traditional design, nor have any traditional design elements in it, so that will go to preventing potential clashes somewhat.

It will be, otherwise they look like NBL singlets. They date quickly, they are ridiculed in the media and the players hate them. It will be more traditional than not.
