Happy for this narrative to be out there. Perception becomes reality and all that.

Certainly cant do us any harm - both in attracting new players and also a subtle reminder to our young lads (esp from interstate) that we are being perceived that way with such talk in the industry.

Its a helluva lot better than the yearly outgoings we had going back 10-15 years. We all know the names Davis, Gunston, Bock, Danger, CC, Lever, Brackets Mc Govern and more. We are now following the Horks model Silvers saw work well for so many flags and picking up both bargain basement players for free AND also attracting role players and elite players as recruits. If we managed to get NWM I would argue our recruiting of draftees AND trading for players would see us as undoubtedly the number one club in the land over the last 5 years for talent acquisition.

And credit to Maestro Nicks for fixing the culture allowing young guns to be retained like never before AND attracting so many quality recruits in the last 4-5 years thru Reid

If we turn Nathan Wanganeen-Milera's head with our apparent 8 year deal, what is it likely to cost in draft capital? You'd think 2 firsts this year and next with maybe a 2nd or 3rd coming back. But it would be a very nice addition to our back 6 to have him there.

I also keep waiting to hear we have signed Dan Curtin on a long term deal, its crucial we can do that as his potential is massive. Hoping this destination club mantra has really grown on him

I kept saying to people, 12 months is a long time in football.
Only blind Freddie couldn't see the talent we had accumulated, and it was only a matter of time before they clicked. That click would then happen real quick.
I think many of us were not doubting that, it was Nicks we were doubting. So far so good this year though

It's been 2 games. Let's see in 3 months time where we sit.

We've beaten 2 sides predicted to finish outside the 8, both with about 8 injuries to best 22 players, whilst we've had zero injuries. There's 23 rounds in the season and whilst the nature of the wins provide cause for optimism, the job is a long way from being done.

I don't think I have seen Nicks called a "Maestro" on this board. If nothing else he has got the football club into good shape, if he did get the flick there would be lots of coaches lined up to take his place. Comparing that to West Coast, which is basically a career ending move (which Adelaide was at the end of 2019).

I'm not talking about winning a flag, I'm talking about the quality of our kids. Wether we have ultimate success or just become middle table relies on more than the quality of the players.
The quality of Soligo, Dawson, Fog, Rankine, Draper, Thillthorpe, Rochelle etc is blatantly obvious.

Retaining players is a LOT easier when there's shedloads of available cap. Previous coaches didn't have the luxury of a bottom few list for multiple years, we were always back up and about within a year or 2 and playing finals. The genuine test with respect to player retention comes when the cap is bursting at the seams and players are still re-contracting. Obviously we haven't hit that yet if we've still got big $ offers out there to NWM and also Draper, although his $ may not be that big, but we've also got 2 years in front of O'Brien, so it's further investment into the single role.

If we get Sam Draper, I'm going to find it very difficult to like him. Even in Crows colours.

What's the beef with him? Is it the way he plays overall, brain farts, haircut? There's a lot of seemingly genuine animosity for the guy around here, I don't really understand it.

Sure, but most clubs have that number. I will say this, I can see Dawson and Rankine as AA this year with Soligo, TT and Rachele making the squad or unlucky to miss out.

I'm not sure about that.
How many clubs have the forward line we possess?
Thilthorpe, Fog, Rochelle and even Keays would get a gig in all sides.
Soligo, Dawson and Rankine would get a gig in every teams midfield, and while the backline isn't star studded, there's some really good young talent like Worrell and Michaelanny. I think Michaelanny gets a gig in most teams infact.

We certainly have some talent on the list, the next five years are going to be very exciting. Kudos to our list management for trading in so much talent over the last few years. Our best 2 players plus another 2 that are best 18.

I said before the season started any one of us could coach this team to the top 8 this year, not even Nicks could stuff it up.

Ultimate success will be determined if we can finally jettison Nicks in the next couple of years or I'm afraid he's going to become the next Kenny.
