Sure, but most clubs have that number. I will say this, I can see Dawson and Rankine as AA this year with Soligo, TT and Rachele making the squad or unlucky to miss out.
not sure most clubs would have a handful of AA squad calibre players in a year. And the 5 you have mentioned at this very early stage seem to be the obvious choices along with perhaps Worrell and Keays as chances for the squad if they keep up this form.

its not just about elite top end but also mid range and bottom 5-6 players. if our bottom 5-6 are now the Cumming, Peatling, Keane, Sholl and Curtin types we are in a pretty good place

We certainly have some talent on the list, the next five years are going to be very exciting. Kudos to our list management for trading in so much talent over the last few years. Our best 2 players plus another 2 that are best 18.

I said before the season started any one of us could coach this team to the top 8 this year, not even Nicks could stuff it up.

Ultimate success will be determined if we can finally jettison Nicks in the next couple of years or I'm afraid he's going to become the next Kenny.
It all comes down to coaching and development now.
The club is winning off shear talent and scoring potential at this point, but there is still coaching issues. We have good individual defenders in Keane, Worrell, Michaelanny, Milera and Murray, but there are issues with team defence. Our lack of team defence patterns is allowing teams to put a decent score on us. In no world should Essendon with their lack of quality forwards have been able to put 100pts on us.
For that to happen there needed to be a lack of a defensive system.

My biggest concern is his field kicking. An absolute liability and makes ROB look composed. The snap doesn't bother me too much. It's the horrible ball drop, tumble punts. Horrific by foot.
What ya mean 42.9% KE is OK isn't it? ;)

We've beaten 2 sides predicted to finish outside the 8, both with about 8 injuries to best 22 players, whilst we've had zero injuries. There's 23 rounds in the season and whilst the nature of the wins provide cause for optimism, the job is a long way from being done.

Have you come around on Thilthorpe?

He's looking pretty good.

If we get Sam Draper, I'm going to find it very difficult to like him. Even in Crows colours.
I like his attitude....

But, can't see why we want him.

Not big enough an upgrade on RoB in Ruck, especially for the cost, and who does he push out up forward

Even if Tex retires, we don't need him.

Maybe I have PTSD, but I'm almost expecting us to lose to North.
We've played two cracking games against bottom six teams and play another one in North. A nice day at Adelaide Oval should allow our skills to flourish so it'll be down to our intensity and desperation to drop off if we don't perform to expectations. That's not impossible. The reality is we've won seven of our last 16 games and they were against Essendon x2, St Kilda x2, North, Giants, and the Bulldogs. We're improving, but a long way from a Premiership contender. Making finals would be a big step.

I don't think it really is about who we beat so much as it is about how we beat them. If you allow yourself to enjoy what we witnessed, you'll come to realise that the team has not looked this exciting since 2017.

There is a lot of water to go under the bridge, or any such clichè you like to use. But, let's not forget, as fans we want to see our club play exciting, competitive football and most importantly, WIN!

The boys have done just that, win! So, there's not really any more we can ask from them at this stage. They simply have to make another statement against North Melbourne before the litmus test of Gather Round.

If we can be 0-5 after beating Gold Coast in Queensland (not an easy game) and with any luck, make a big statement against the Cats with the whole country watching, I see some very exciting times ahead in 2025.

I'm not sure about that.
How many clubs have the forward line we possess?
Thilthorpe, Fog, Rochelle and even Keays would get a gig in all sides.
Soligo, Dawson and Rankine would get a gig in every teams midfield, and while the backline isn't star studded, there's some really good young talent like Worrell and Michaelanny. I think Michaelanny gets a gig in most teams infact.

Individually, but not all at the same time. Most decent 23’s top few would make every other clubs 23.

2017, go back and check my posting about the consistency of how we lost throughout that season. I don’t look back at that year with any fondness whatsoever. Although, I am confident that this is a more dynamic and flexible best 30 than that group. But we are only 2 games in, and whilst the wins have been good, we’re yet to settle into the season and work out who’s who.

The bottom few is a great discussion topic. I’d remove Curtin from the list as he’s projecting super high level. But you’re right, our bottom few would all be close or get a game at most clubs. Compare to playing Murphy and McHeney who wouldn’t make most lists.

Well, not the last game of that year, that is for sure. I went to The Highway with a heart filled with hope and I left the place with a face full of tears! 😭🙃

But, I look at it like a bad break-up; the end sucked, but I can now look back at it objectively and acknowledge the positive aspects of the journey.

Call it rosy retrospection, but the hope for the future whilst living through it was intoxicating. Eddie Betts, amazing. Can you really say you derived no joy throughout that year?

Don't underestimate what the red, blue and gold hoops does for a player. Makes anyone likeable.

I don't mind going for Draper, but it has to be rather cheap for an FA for me to get behind it. How he's been used over the journey reeks of a shit club mismanaging a player.

If we turn Nathan Wanganeen-Milera's head with our apparent 8 year deal, what is it likely to cost in draft capital? You'd think 2 firsts this year and next with maybe a 2nd or 3rd coming back. But it would be a very nice addition to our back 6 to have him there.

I also keep waiting to hear we have signed Dan Curtin on a long term deal, its crucial we can do that as his potential is massive. Hoping this destination club mantra has really grown on him
2 firsts this year and next year? 4 firsts?? That’s never happened and never will.
