We let him do whatever he wanted to when we last played the Pies so i am expecting Craigy to assign a tag on him this week. Hawthorn played McGlynn on him a month or so ago and it got to him (hence a quiet game and a Hawks win) and the Saints played Clinton Jones on him yesterday and it had another massive effect 13 or so touches). Thoughts???

wow thanks for the great insight. im sure craigy will take on board!

of course he will get a tag, a really hard one. he turns to sh!t when he has a hard tag. Hopefully dogga will shut him down. Swan im not so worried about. most of his possies are in the back half and his kicks are little dinky 30m ones that dont hurt.

Well if its a great insight and you want to be all sarcastic about it, why didn't Craigy do it when we last played them? He was the sole reason why they beat us a month ago. We allowed him to do what he pleased and he killed us.

VB on Swan as VB has the engine to go with Swan all day

Doughty on Didak as Dogga has the physicality to upset Didak who hates the hard tag

We can't play too defensively. It's important that we play the game on our terms and don't obsess over stopping them.
Having said that, I agree that Didak needs to be shut out of the game. Swan too. It was these two that won the game for Collingwood last time. Didak was left on his own far too often, and murdered us with his disposal, and Swan got the better of Shirley when he moved to half back in the second half and for some reason Shirley became our lead up CHF. Swan continuously beat Shirley to the ball from the moment this change was made, and set them up from half back. If Swan tries this again, for heavens sake do not kick it to Shirley or whoever is on him. Have them make decoy leads, and only honour them if Swan doesn't follow. I never really regarded him as a hugely damaging player (despite his ability to find the ball) until last time we met.

We also must be smart about our forward 50 entries. We had ALL the play in the first half last time, yet every time we kicked it into our forwardline it went straight to Nick Maxwell. We can't let him have such a huge influence on the game again. We must make sure he's at least accountable. We can't have him floating around as a loose man, as, while I'd like to say I don't rate the guy as he seems like such a twat, he's a quality reader of the play. If we start the game with a loose man ourselves, I'll be pretty shitted off, as it will likely mean their captain will be running around on his own in our forwardline, picking off every forward 50 entry. Be positive and attacking, and only resort to a loose man if Collingwood get a run on and we need to stem the tide.

Put it this way, if we dont tag Didak and we lose it will be up there with the Massie/Franklin move. Craig wont let it happen.

rather tag leon davis.. cant have him kicking 3 goals and getting 25+ possessions.. probably be playing more in midfielder without pendlebury playing also

VB on Didak, Dogga on Swan.

ThinkDidak may have a bit too much toe for Dogga. His hard body will be suited to Swan.

Also if anyone could survive being shot it's VB, thus it's also the safest option to put VB on Didak.

I think both Shirley and VB will return and match up as as follows;

Shirley/Didak
Doughty/Swan
VB/Davis

Whos to say craigy did not put a tag on them last time....

Tag or no tag, quality palyers like didak and swan do not have quiet games twice in a row.

Could have something to do with the 20+ uncontested possessions, and the fact that he seemed to have a whole wing to himself for most of the game.

Plenty of tags have failed in the past and resulted like that.

You think one person is going to close down that space on the wing??

Craig put doughty against Watson at the dome in the and we all saw that Watson got a lot of possessions in the first half. Once we started winning in the middle Dogga was able to get on top of Watson.

Tagging was not the reason to our loss against Collingwood at home and won’t be our solution to our win this weekend.

doesnt make sense if he was tagged you'd at least expect someone to be standing next to him some of the time, instead we played the zone and he picked holes through it.

VB's played mostly in the back half (i reckon he'll miss anyway), shirely can coem in for swan if necessary or we can just use our normal defensive pressure against him.

If Shirley does a half reasonable job it wont be long before Swan is moved to the HBF or HFF where he will likely expose Shirley.

vB less accomplished as a pure tagger but will have the ability to follow Swan wherever he goes.

If i were Malthouse and saw Swan v Shirley I'd give Swan a heap of time leading out from the FF line, effectively ending the match-up quick smart (hopefully!) We all remember Brad Johnson kicking some key goals near the end of a close match deep in defence dont we? Pretty sure our midfield tagger was exposed as a poor full-back that day (please if my memory is wrong and it wasn't Shirley let me know! btw for the vociferous Shirley supporters that wasn't mentioned to bag him, it's just to say we shouldn't expect him to follow a player to FF and stop him doen there).

I will because at the start of the game Goody was zoning off between him and Thomas, they won the first clearance, Goody went to Thomas who went to the members wing, whilst Didak went on his own just jogging down the centre and then when the ball spilled free on their HFF there was Didak to get the crumbs and score a goal.

He was on his own for the whole night.

The only time we went man on man was during some of our kick ins when we went the huddle.
